Thanks for this Victor! I'm wondering if this update will help those with their a6700 spontaneously becoming unresponsive. For some it has only happened when using the hot shoe with a flash or flash remote. Have you had any of these issues?
OH I definitely have so I'm wondering as well.. I haven't recreated it since I updated the firmware but It's happened twice during my trip in Korea and I have videos of it just suddenly being so unresponsive! Only happening in photo mode but after I hit the shutter, it just freezes. It seems like the camera went long exposure mode. It happened on Aperture priority mode. I'll try to see if I can recreate the issue but definitely something weird happens. This will probably be in my top 5 "issues" with the a6700 video at some point.
Basically no overheating on 1080p you'd be recording until your battery is dead. Even if you have an external source, it'll be long long recording times.
SD card write speed plays a huge factor in heating. What card did you use? V30? V90? I use a V90 card and no over heating issue even on stock firmware. Not planning to update the firmware if its not giving me problems.
Sony tough card v90. We’ve got multiple reports people having both overheating units and non-overheating units! Some gets fixed some don’t. It’s weird.
@@VictorLaforteza Since 93% of production is from Thailand, it could be a batch production issue. Nikon usually does a recall on their bad batch of production. Will sony do the same? hmmmmmmmm

@@VictorLaforteza do you think that makes a difference? Would you have other cards that are not Sony tough that you could test them against? I think there might be something to it
What was your ambient temperature in both tests? - even a 1-2c temperature difference will have a big impact on your test results. If you still experience overheating in a warmer room with no windows open, opening the battery door and side doors helps a lot!
it was hotter this time around 32-34 degrees ambient temperature and it got more humid at night!! The first test (video) It was hovering 28-31 degrees.
@@VictorLaforteza Amazing result! - I had something similar with my ZV-E1. So many people complaining it overheats on TH-cam, but I recorded 2 hours of 4k50 in direct sunlight, no issues at all (well, I overheated and got a sun burn, the camera was fine haha) and did a 4k30 stream over USB-C for 6.5 hours (!!) - no overheat and battery went from 100% to 83% in this time (basically, you would never need a dummy battery for streaming). @@DigiDriftZone That's amazing!! I've always had doubts with the zv-e1 that's why I didn't pull the trigger but it seems that the A7Cii would be the perfect replacement for the A7IV. I'm ready but my wallet isn't hahaha! gotta save up more so I can also share some of my experience with it.
@@VictorLafortezahaha, I know the feeling! - I was very surprised about the ZV-E1, I've recorded few videos on my channel if you're interested about moving from APS-C to Full Frame, so far my Full Frame is smaller, lighter, cheaper and MUCH better than my previous APS-C (Fuji), how crazy is that?? - I think the gap is narrower with the excellent A6700 though, but I'm still so surprised full frame is smaller/lighter. I actually pre-ordered the A6700 and cancelled it last second to get the ZV-E1 heh - both are excellent options though.

Since my partner's family mostly speak mandarin, I try to integrate it with my life as much as I can. I even did a short intro just in Chinese in one of my vids haha! 100% if your needs are video first, the fx30 makes soooo much sense but the a6700 is a really good hybrid.

My firmware update failed - started getting long flashes and it was over 20 minutes trying. If this happens to you - and you have left it for plenty of time - Pull the battery out first of all. Then re-download the firmware update and save onto an SD card (making sure to delete the previous download) Then put the SD card back in, and replace the battery. It should flash in 1 second pulses, then move on to 3 faster pulses at a time, then finally the camera will click and the screen should display that it is all done. SONY support are USELESS. I hope this helps anyone having similar issues.
If these tests are correct there’s more value in the A6700 rn. FX30 lacks evf, mechanical shutter and continuous shooting mode and will make you angry because Sony cripple hammer. Why is the more expensive camera lacking functions?

Will sony do the same? hmmmmmmmm
@@Dylon1981 I’m convinced that it is a batch that’s messed up. It was the similar with the a7iv! Mine was a complete tank and my friend was overheating like crazy. Recall though? Nah they want the sales.
idk how fast youll respond...but Im going to be shooting in weather that is like 80 degrees Fahrenheit- do you think that this will work for b-roll?
B-roll ya of course!
@@VictorLaforteza Wow thank you so much for the fast reply! Just purchased it and cant wait(and PLEASE make more of these a6700 guides they're the best thing ever!!)
Thanks for sharing this Victor! I got my a6700 and was so disappointed with the overheating issue that i felt like selling it, gonna update it now and give it another shot!
yeah, try it out see how it does! some report it did better and some didn't have luck :(
what is the result? is there still a heating problem or is it fixed after the update?
hello, was the problem fixed?
Great info because I was on the fence about getting it because of all the overheating stuff
Is it worth it to use the 35mm 1,4GM lense with this camera? Thinking on getting that as my starter kit and wanted a great lens that holds value with time
Yep! I always use it with my full frame lenses.
@@VictorLaforteza got it. My doubt is going for this or the a7c, which is full frame. I mostly do pictures, family, portraits and the FF could benefit that simple workflow.
awesome video as always! would you say this could be a good a-cam? or should i keep saving up for an fx30?
two very similar camera but have their pros and cons. If you're going to shoot primarily video, the fx30 makes more sense! but the a6700 is a really good hybrid. Just depends on your use case!
Any camera can be a good a-cam. It just depends one how good your lighting is and environment you'll be shooting.
@@ChrisParayno yes i ended up purchasing the a6700. haven't had any problems with it so far :)
Could you review/recommend some of the best lenses for the a6700
sigma 18-50 2.8 or the sigma 16/30/56 1.4 :) Sony lenses are great if you have a higher budget!
I was going to return my a6700 after work today because of the overheating!! This is amazing news and you just saved my A6700 life 😂😂
YEAH!!! Try the firmware update first and see if it helps yours!
what is the result? is there still a heating problem or is it fixed after the update?
Did you return it?
@@ChillStudyDateI kept it. I don't know about other people's experience. But after the update, I took it to Portugal. It was a nice 27°C there and never had an overheating warning..... however, the longest footage i took was only about 15-20 mins 4k 30 and 4k 60.. so it probably woul've overheated if it was longer but I shoot in segments so I dont need it that long. Longest I have tried 4k 30 was around 40 minutes after the update, then it overheated.
@@max97livecouk did you put the setting for temp high also put it in airplane mode as the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth might be heating up the processor. Also how is the 1080 on it have you tried 1080 240 fps?
Curious if this affects the streaming as well? I heard it wasn't great for long stream times. Any idea at all?
I took it on a livestream yesterday and it lasted 1.5 hrs! Don’t know if it lasts longer but it didn’t overheat on me
@@VictorLaforteza that's good to hear. Thanks for the reply 👍🏽
Please review Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 with Sony A6700 because that is what I bought as well for my new Sony A6700. The lens is already here but Im still waiting eagerly for my camera to come! This will be my first camera and Im absolutely excited about it!
I'll see if I can get tamron to send me a copy for review!!
Is the base iso 2500 or the 12800 on a7s3 /fx3 cleans up in photo? Raw ? Or those cleanup only happens in video slog 3?
there are different base ISOs for different picture profiles. For photo is different too and I'm not quite sure what it is tbh :(
Great video! I need to update my A6700 now. I think a good idea for lens would be the new Sigma or Sony APS-C is always a great choice.
My fave apsc lens has always been the sigma 16mm 1.4!
@@VictorLaforteza The 16mm 1.4 lives on my A6700 right now haha
Awesome video! I think it would be great if you could review it with the viltrox 1.4 lenses or 1.8 lenses.
Sounds great! I'm actually wondering if they are releasing the 27mm 1.2 for Sony E-mount.... That lens would be a beast with the a6700.
@@VictorLafortezathey're going to. Rumors are in the next few months. Should be by end of the year.

Which sd card are you recording to? I believe that has alot to do with it too
Both video tests were on Sony tough v90 cards
@@VictorLaforteza do you think that makes a difference? Would you have other cards that are not Sony tough that you could test them against? I think there might be something to it
I used sandisk v90 and v60 cards too and it was all the same results but Sony’s best cards on sony? That should not have any issues at all.
Nice Video Do a Review with the sigma 18-50mm F 2.8
What was the temperature during the testing?
28-32 degrees c
which one you suggest fx30 or a6700?
For pro work, fx30. For everything else, a6700
@@VictorLaforteza i do love zoom streaming..so a6700 heating issues...which one is good...3 hrs live i do
Fx30
Just got it and I’ve been using the 11mm would love to see the 15mm vs 11mm
I’ll see if I can get some loaner units in!
So happy with these recent compact Sony bodies, I'm excited to see what the A7C II brings, that price though!
I actually pre-ordered the A6700 and cancelled it last second to get the ZV-E1 heh - both are excellent options though.
so you don't have AC? Are sitting a room and it's 90 degrees? you look pretty cool in the video, I would expect some sweat. especially with lights and a room temp of 32 celsius / 90 degrees Fahrenheit. wow@@VictorLaforteza
Mine is still over heating after the update in 4k60 at about 22 mins :/ thinking about returning
:( definitely return! I think it’s a batch that is flawed..
How come you start the vid with Chinese ? Did you live here before ? Genuine curiosity
Also I looked at the a6700, but I think the fx30 would suit my own needs better. Still the 6700 looks great, I started on a 6300 and I’d still buy one now if the chance came up
I live in Taiwan usually during the 2nd half of the year. Got friends and family here. Worked in China a bit before Covid as well. Since my partner's family mostly speak mandarin, I try to integrate it with my life as much as I can. I even did a short intro just in Chinese in one of my vids haha!
100% if your needs are video first, the fx30 makes soooo much sense but the a6700 is a really good hybrid.
@@VictorLaforteza oh nice! That’s actually almost level with where I live in the mainland, Wenzhou. My wife’s from here so been here 10 years now, still yet to get across to Taiwan , hopefully before the year is out.
Yeah for hybrid shooters the a6700 makes perfect sense, honestly most Sony cameras within the last few years are ace
Amazing video! Now this camera is suitable for recommendation.
100%!!
This really put the a6700 right neck and neck with the fx30 in terms of performance. Ergonomics and port wise, I think not so much, but for the use case. I think it's there, either way I'm still not really convinced to swap my fx30 to this camera. Thanks Victor! I learned to use Davinci because of how your video about nostalgic color grading the fx30 footage. I'm a premiere user way back 2018.

I hope I had a contact at Sony so I could just borrow them :( I sold my g master lenses but we'll see if we can rent some!
I used my 35mm 1.4 GM on the A6700 and it blew my mind! My 24mm and 50mm 1.4 GM’s work great on it as well!
4k is not twice the work of 1080p. it is four times the resolution so four times the work.
That's right, 2 megapixels vs 8. Also 6.2k while may not sound that much more than 4k, that's 20 megapixels vs 8 on 4k. You can crop over 50% into your fotoage with no quality loss. However the more than doubling of resolution also means you need a much faster PC to play and edit.
that's true haha my math was so off.. oops! but goes to show how much it work it goes through in 4k!
@@VictorLaforteza Crazy isn't it! - you can take a 25% crop from the video and get no quality loss for 1080p export :)

Hey Victor if you are coming to Japan, let’s meet I am living in Japan and maybe it will be a good opportunity to meet each other
Viltrox 23mm
My firmware update failed - started getting long flashes and it was over 20 minutes trying.
If this happens to you - and you have left it for plenty of time -
Pull the battery out first of all.
Then re-download the firmware update and save onto an SD card (making sure to delete the previous download)
Then put the SD card back in, and replace the battery.
It should flash in 1 second pulses, then move on to 3 faster pulses at a time, then finally the camera will click and the screen should display that it is all done.
SONY support are USELESS.
I hope this helps anyone having similar issues.
I'm so sorry to hear that :( I hope you get a replacement or a solution from Sony.
LFG 🎉
If these tests are correct there’s more value in the A6700 rn. FX30 lacks evf, mechanical shutter and continuous shooting mode and will make you angry because Sony cripple hammer. Why is the more expensive camera lacking functions?
It's their business strategy I think.. but at least you have the cameras for every need. Just sucks features don't carry over unless its a firmware update that takes forever
Yeah. Sony wants the customer to buy 2 cameras but most people will just end up with the cheaper better camera that does both.
Cinema cameras have zero use for a mechanical shutter, just adds complexity and a point of failure.
@@rsmith02 understable, I just want the camera to do continuous shooting which is an software feature so I can take a decent thumbnail for my video.
I want smooth skin effect...
I wonder why there's not much chatter out there for this addressing overheating issues?
I think it's an isolated batch. In my last video about overheating, we got a lot of reports of their copies not overheating.
2 hours is crazy, I only got 50min at most even with the update, granted that's plenty for me
yeah, I don't think anyone will shoot 4k60 that long but it's nice to know it can handle that much

CINEMATIC
Photography TH-cam is dead, and it's killed by people only reviewing gear. A new camera comes out, woo, send it to a TH-camr for free advertising. These reviews are bias at best because wed all know they won't send you anything else if you gave a bad review.
It’s not dead. There’s a lot of channels who do actual work and showcase it. In terms of not giving a bad review, Gerald Undone and Phillip Bloom both complained about Sony cameras multiple times and they still get new cameras. Can you name reviewers that specifically just shill about cameras?
In my case, I buy these cameras and enjoy reviewing them for my use case. I wish I had free access to cameras. If you wanna see my first a6700 video, I showed my disappointment with this camera. I wanted to make it work before I returned it and luckily it did.
