I work a fairly difficult job (12 hour days, physical labor) and a co-worker asked me why I was always happy at work. I told her "Because, for me, complaining and being upset is harder than just being happy; I choose to be happy".
That's not to say I don't have my moments. It gets to me sometimes and I might get upset or angry for a few minutes. The more I work on just accepting the things in my life that I encounter, the less those moments of anger happen. Eventually, I hope to train my mind to understand that I can choose peace and happiness in all circumstances and eliminate anger altogether.

For anyone who comes across this video who doesn’t resonate with this with all that has happened in your life: those who suffered immense tragedy, maybe victimized as a child, or victim of a crime or struggling financially, physically, still on the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, please know that a sense of peace does NOT have to be the place you have to achieve immediately. Honor your pain. Honor any occurances of injustice that has remained and allow your woes to be witnessed and expressed, THEN after you shed that sufficiently, watch this again to now shift your perspective. @GHØUL Muh that was your journey, I absolutely see no problem with it. You stayed in your pain for as long as you needed to be. The only thing that matters is the reality of what happened. If that event (reading the book) didn't happen, you would probably have stayed with your pain for a while more and that's ok, too. Some people take a long time to change their lives, others do it pretty quickly and there's no need to compare people's journeys. You did what you had to do in order to stay afloat, and then you found your motivation to overcome the situation. What you achieved is great, but it would have been fine if you felt you needed to stay with your pain a while longer.

If the mind is an _excellent_ *servant* then why do so many people lose control so easily? & what is this about a _poor master_ ? Robin Sharma mentions this old proverb in his book 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' . "see *through* the mind" ? You can't see through a mirror & all you can do, is _attempt_ to control your mind (after all, it's yours for a life-time).
Without a mind, one cannot discriminate one thing from another; nor can one see, hear, taste, or smell anything, Mr. Meditation-breath.

I'm not saying that people have weak minds; rather, many of us don’t fully utilize our minds' potential. Developing the mind requires intentional practice, just as individuals must work to build self-awareness and self-control. Without conscious engagement, the mind can easily become reactive, letting emotions take the lead rather than directing them with intention.
I'm not suggesting that people have weak minds, nor do I believe I'm smarter or better than anyone else. I'm simply sharing insights that have helped me better understand myself and gain mastery over my thoughts and actions. My hope is to inspire others to explore these same practices, empowering them to cultivate a deeper connection with their own minds and gain greater control over their lives.

People may perceive problems differently, but we should still be sympathetic and supportive when someone has an experience that is a problem to them, but not to us eg breakdown of a marriage, death of a loved one, or loss of a job, for example.
We need to see them seeing it as a problem as valid, and offer support, even if we don't know what that problem is like ourselves.

Having empathy is thou kind of a different topic. It's not argued here that we all "experience problems" and therefore should be empathetic to each other and supportive.
But simply becoming mindful about how we handle those troubling situations and the emotions that arise with them can help tremendously.
I recently rediscovered the teachings of daoism as I am suffering through a break up. I have never found as much value out of meditation ever before. I do allow the grief to fully take me over when it arises. But it is coming with a feeling of hopelessness that I struggled to get out from. Simply sitting still and allowing myself to do the very basic first step of noticing my thoughts and returning to my breath helped me so much to get back some sence of peace and ground myself and remind myself that this moment that caused that pain already passed and I am now already in the process off accepting my new presence.

I think experiences play a part.
What we grow up with, what we are taught, how we are raised, educated and the experiences we have as children, often shape our perceptions and biases in life.
Our perceptions of opinions and what we think are true, go back to what happens to us as we grow up.
That has to play a part in how we deal with problems.

The part about solving our problem and therefore changing our circumstances reminded me of parable called "Death in Teheran" as told by Victor Frankl in one of his books:
A rich and mighty Persian once walked in his garden with one of his servants. The servant cried that he had just encountered Death, who had threatened him. He begged his master to give him his fastest horse so that he could make haste and flee to Teheran, which he could reach that same evening. The master consented and the servant galloped off on the horse. On returning to his house the master himself met Death, and questioned: “Why did you terrify and threaten my servant?” Death answered: “I did not threaten him; I only showed surprise in still finding him here, because I planned to meet him tonight in Teheran.”

The Buddha said “ the beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper names.” I think this relates to the two truths in this video. We live in a subjective reality based on our own interpretations of ourselves and the world around us. Others see us through their interpretation of reality which could be quite different or unimaginable to us. There is an objective reality we can only perceive by encountering the uncompromising reality of death. Even then many avoid that by constructing a fantasy that shields them from accepting that ultimate reality. That’s where we get religion, belief in ghosts or the fantasy that some beloved celebrity never really died. The truth or objective reality is always there like the stars in the daytime. They are there but we can’t see them as our ego based reality like the sun blots it out. I know for a fact that many people think the stars only exist at night while any amount of logical thought would tell you that is ridiculous. In fact it’s childish thinking focusing only on what you can or cannot see while your mind can tell you the truth. Even understanding this does not allow you to see the stars in the daytime. Logic tells you they are there even if you can’t see them. This is how we should think of objective reality even though we can never actually see it.

Taking the ‘drug’ thing a step further, we can also dissolve our problems from eating properly and (most importantly) exercise. If we don’t do this first it can be really difficult to get the full benefits from meditation because we’re fighting against our faulty brain chemistry. That’s why in Ashtanga yoga (for example) it is recommended to become very physically fit by doing a vigorous asana practice before beginning meditation. Hope this comment helps someone!

I'm so glad that I found your channel! I have been looking all over the internet and even on TH-cam on how to resolve a problem at work. I've been having problems with my employer, his son and one employee (she's interested in the boss's son). Anyhow, M and G are very rude, condescending, and use various of us employees and me as "dumping bad/negative experience bins" -- in other words they talk about themselves all the time and drop off their personal and professional problems on us. And the father (the employer does the same to the higher-ups) which is really annoying! I was searching up "Am I perceiving work problems as reality, or are these problems being created in my mind" And here I am. After a couple of hours of meditation, and thirty minutes of talking to the other employees I realized my mind it's not making up these problems. These three people are literary the ones causing discomfort. I am looking for a new job right now. Thank you Einzelgänger for sharing these insightful videos!

Maybe referring to "problems" as challenges can take the edge off in many/most/all(?) cases? Words can strengthen, weaken, and/or confuse. Using them(words) as optimally as possible can potentially contribute to betterness.

    • @lukelim5094
      @lukelim5094 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes. Change it from seeing a problem. To excel at something. One comes from a negative place of energy. While the other comes from a positive place of energy.
To say someone or something is a problem is essentially looking down and demeaning a person.
When you tell a new intern or worker there is something to improve upon and excel at it. It is different wording but the intent is completely different. It produces enormous different results.

    • @presianvasilev9953

Precisely. It's all about the mindset one has and how he perceives things.
We cannot control the external world and the occupying feelings that are generated by our senses, however we can choose how to react.
I used to have a very negative view towards 'problems' and 'issues'. Now I just see them as opportunities to grow, expand and get better. :)

This reminds me of the movie "Paterson" that is very dear to me. The main character of the same name is calm and content and works as a bus driver. One day the bus has an electrical breakdown, not a big deal, it just stops. When he calls the main office to report the "problem," he says, "I have a situation." Other passengers and people who weren't involved in the indicent dramatically comment that the bus could have exploded into a fireball. Also, the short conversations between Paterson and his ever-complaining colleague are quite representative of the different attitudes and wordings. Both scenes are included in the trailer.
