Star of Indiana 1992 Percussion Field Tape Semifinals (video dub!)

- This is an audio to video dub of the 1992 Star of Indiana field percussion tape from semifinals at the DCI World Championships in Madison, WI. The volume of the tape is low so turn up your speakers.
Star was 1st on the field in percussion this night with a red hot performance which scored 9.8 out of 10.0 in field percussion. The field percussion judge was Mr. Chuck King. On this video dub, you can see where Mr. King was while he made his comments.
In total percussion (field + ensemble perc) this night, Star tied with Cavaliers (Star 9.8 field, 9.6 ens / Cavies 9.6 field, 9.8 ens). The next night at finals with a different judge and different perspective, Star was awarded 2nd place in drums(tied with cadets) and Cavaliers were 1st..

I am listening to this at 4am with tears streaming down my face! Thanks Star for 3 of the best summers of my life. I was pitster, timpanist and rope drummer in this show. I talk to the kids I teach about this experience EVERY chance I have their ears. I was in the group 91, 92 & 93. 92 remains the least talked about. As you can hear, it was immaculate.

I marched with Dave Carbone in Magic 1990. I'm glad he moved on to Star. Also, the corps got hosed in 1993. I was in Jackson that night and was blown away. Cadets were great but Star had something mystical about them that year.
Love it when he says "When I think I hear a mistake, like on that attack, I have to question myself first. I don't do that often."
God I loved this show. It was almost the "Forgotten" edition of Star because of the insanity that was 91 and 93 Star programs. But I loved this one overall. What a phenomenal percussion section. Next level sound quality, nuance, and just so many musical subtleties that I dont get out of any other ensemble that year. Thanks for posting.
Fairly sure the opener was written by Dubinski, not Hannum. That's definitely some characteristic Dubinski writing in the 6/8 section.

Ohhh. That was semis. I didn't finish reading the title. If I recall, they won Field on Friday (9.8) to Cavies' 9.6. They finished 4th in Field Percussion on Saturday at 9.4. Cadets: 9.6; Crossmen: 9.7; Cavies: 9.9.
Vee 10 you need to check out the Cavaliers finals field drum tape. It only showed up on TH-cam a few years ago. I'm just gonna say Cavaliers had a great package and by effort and destiny it was their year, but there's a lot of mistakes on that tape and the judge was really overhyping as you can hear things in the background that we're not in the quality of sound category. Yes, they won drums, and perhaps they deserved it, but what you can hear on that tape is not a 9.9/10 imo. One can argue placement of the tape recorder all they want.

Man, the talent level in this corps was ridiculous that year. The show is pukeworthy, Chester excepted, but the kids were amazing.
