High power LEDs also give of some heat. The heat doesn't vent out of the lighting enclosure in the TV well, so the heat can build up causing the LEDs to get damaged, permanently dimmer, or burn out. Sometimes when they burn out, they short out, blowing the power supply too. So it's not just a matter of pushing the LEDs to their power limits when set on high, it increases the heat buildup that can damage them too.
They also make crappy power supplies on modern TVs, & they tend to burn out long before they should. Pushing the back lighting near full, works those poorly built fragile power supplies harder. By turning down the back lighting you're extending the life of the power supply. If the power supply fries, it could send incorrect voltages to other components. It can burn out logic board, tuner boards, the LEDs inside, & may be a fire risk.
Also bright light from high back lighting, or even bright daylight & sunlight eventually bleaches out the color in the pixels a little. Color get less intense, less vivid, less realistic, & dull over time when the screen is exposed to too much light all the time (but sunlight is the worst, sunlight may even damage layers of the panel).
As a thumb rule NEVER have your back lighting set higher than 70%. Even lower is better. Do not place TVs near a window, or at least close the curtains & blinds a little while watching in the daytime. The TV will look plenty bright enough if it isn't flooded with light from a window or bright lights. At night, you don't have keep your room lighting super bright. Make it cozy & turn down the room lights a little.

If my screeen is darker like the LEDs are out, but when i turn the brightness up it looks almost like its suppose to look would that be a backlight problem with the LEDs, or could the LEDs have fallen off the tape?

Thank you for this video. My LED TV just went dark and I did the flashlight test. Sure enough, it is the backlight. It was a great TV and only 1 1/2 years old. Just bought a new one... I am going to adjust the backlight IMMEDIATELY when I receive it! (BTW: What a waste of resources and the environment... more people should know about this!)

Finally somebody gets it. This is the number one reasone TVs break. You have the settings to factory and most people use those. No good. They will shorten the life span of your tv by burning it out sooner and the pic quality is not as good. Go in the settings and bring them down. That equals better pic quality and longer use?
