My husband is a Cuban immigrant who served in the USMC! Our first date he was so polite, respectful and put together! When he took me home that evening I told everyone in my family, he is the one I will marry! It's been 38 years and we share four sons, he is the best husband and father! He is calm and the one of the most respectful people I know, also he is the scariest man I've ever met! So glad he asked! Thank you to all the people who served, serve and will serve!There are alot of people who are critical of the military but as my husband once said to a guy that was bashing the service, " whatever you have to say to yourself while others stand and serve "!
I was drafted into the Marine Corps in December 1969. I did my boot at San Diego. I was lucky because I had a minor in accounting, so they turned me into a payroll clerk. I did almost two years and am very proud of my time in the marines. USMC 1969-1971
The last guy in the flag raising was not a marine. He was a corpsman from the Navy. His son wrote a book about his dad and the flag-raising. The corpsman is the most important man in your outfit because he goes out into the fight and treats the wounded regardless of his own safety. Marines would kill for their corpsman. USMC 1969-1971
I too was a Navy payroll person. I made e5 in 2 years. I even gave my brother 3 months advance pay when he got back from Vietnam 🇻🇳 I miss him dearly gone but not forgotten
