  • I invited my American friend to Canada to try Swiss Chalet, a famous rotisserie chicken restaurant chain in Canada, beloved by millions! He had eaten it 20 years ago when they still had locations in the united states, but he doesn’t remember much. I wanted to see if it brought back memories tasting that unique chalet sauce, and if he likes the chicken. Also is there anything comparable to it in the USA?

If its what I think it is, closing the roll back up like you didn't cut it after buttering it then I don't think it's weird at all, I do it too. I've been a subscriber for about 3 months now since my interest has really peaked in Canada! 🍁 I was subscribed bed to your friend as well and didn't even know 😂 good video. Or it could be the above then dipping it half way in the sauce?

I’m Canadian and dip everything into the chalet sauce so that’s not weird to me 😅 it’s weird if you don’t. Unfortunately the Swiss chalet by my place is not as good as it use to be so I don’t get it that often. They don’t even sell Shirley temples anymore so I defiantly need to make a trip to a different location.

Not dipping your bread in chalet sauce, or spaghetti sauce/soup/any liquid of choice for that matter is the truly weird thing. Bread is the perfect vessel for liquids with destination stomach.

You gotta take it a step up, order that extra sauce, when your meal comes immediately rip the bun up and put it in the sauce and leave it until you’re done everything else. It’s like chalet dessert!

We live in Buffalo. It's only 20 minutes away to the Rainbow Bridge to Canada and another 10 minutes to Swiss Chalet on Lundy's Lane. we go there quite often since they no longer have Swiss Chalet in Buffalo. The wait staff as well as the Customs Officers at the bridge say that it is very common for U.S. residents to cross over to Canada to get our Swiss Chalet fix! LOVE IT!

A little history about the Canadian rotisserie chicken scene...In the 40s a chicken farmer in rural Quebec heard of a Swiss style chicken being served in Montreal. Chalet BBQ on Sherbrooke and Decarie is still serving hundreds a day. Line ups out the door on weekends. The chicken farmer crafted an oven in his barn and started serving Au Coq chicken. His brother got in on the action and opened up Benny's chicken. Both chain stores are still doing well with over 30 locations all over the island and beyond.
St.Hubert chicken opened their first store in 1951, where else, on St Hubert street and Beaubien, in Montreal. George B. Sukornyk, Harvey's owner, opened up his version in 1954 in downtown Toronto, Swiss Chalet. (Geez, I wonder how he came up with that name???) There are hundreds of restaurants across Canada that serve the classic quarter chicken with sauce and fries. There's even a spice blend, Montreal Chicken Seasoning, sold by McCormick.

@Lola Montez Sort of but with a unique blend of spices in it that sets it apart from any other gravy you likely ever have had. It is REALLY good with roasted chicken. You can buy online the gravy/sauce in packets so you can try it outside of Canada. You just add water to the powder in the packet and heat on a stove until it thickens. is super easy.

what i usually do is carve out a small 1 inch crevice on the top of the bun. then i hollow the inside. the i sand and buffer the interior, to create a denser surface area for when the sauce enters the crevice. then i secure the sides of the roll with metal brackets and attach the other side to the table so the unit is stabilized. after securing the bread i pour the sauce into the crevice on the top of the roll. then i think about my regrets in life. then i eat the bread.

    Swiss Chalet is good chicken.
But coming from a Montrealer , the greatest chicken in the world is " Chalet BBQ " in Montreal.
If you ever come to Montreal go eat there. The fries are great, the sauce is amazing, but the chicken is simply delicious.
It gets voted the best chicken in Montreal almost every year. It's an old restaurant that's been there since 1944.
