    There seems to be a sense of simplicity, yet very detailed approach you have on any type of media you use, some I have never even heard off, like this on. You are very encouraging and I feel the time to get back to my first love, art. At 74, never too old. Being an Architect,I can relate to your style due to the fact that I have use the same technique in my preliminary sketches. Thank you.

    Love these videos. Working my way through and doing each one. Hope I live long enough. I admire your drawings and wonder why you always seem to start with a roof and not the shape of the building.

    • @PeterSheelerart
      @PeterSheelerart  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you Victor. I usually start with a roof line or the left side to keep from smudging the ink.

    For anyone who doesn’t know, there are also water-insoluble inks that are made for fountain pens. There are a number of brands and colors, but I would point out two that I use under or over watercolor washes: Noodler’s Lexington Gray (a dark, transparent gray) and Platinum Carbon Black. Both are absolutely waterproof when allowed to fully dry. Lexington Gray retains its waterfastness even when diluted with water before application. Its transparency means that it can be layered for a range of values. It can even be loaded into a waterbrush. For any waterproof ink, a little extra care should be taken not to let it dry out in the pen, and I would not use waterproof inks in a costly pen. But then, there are many great fountain pens available now at little cost.

    Peter I saw those WN sticks in the painting you did of this one. I would love to see you demo those some time if you've had good luck with them. I have some of the WN ones and the Daniel Smith and I have never really been pleased with anything I have used them on. I like these Wednesday uploads as well. I have the Lamy Safari with the extra fine nib. I use Noodlers bulletproof ink in mine. I may try some water soluble sometime though.

    • @PeterSheelerart
      @PeterSheelerart  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Adam. I only have those two sticks. Haven't used them lately, but the colour intensity is fabulous. Might order a few more and use them again.
      I've ordered the Platinum Carbon ink for a waterproof, lightfast ink. A couple Noodlers inks as well. And I've switched to Higgins Fountain India for my soluble ink.

    • @adamw2621
      @adamw2621 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you get a chance demo that Platinum Carbon. I have used and still do at times, and it is well, kind of like putting high octane fuel in your car. I think you will like it, it is probably my favorite ink Ever. I even put it in my Rotring Isograph pens, and it performed just perfect. Noodler's Bulletproof is my standby though, it is more economical.

      Oh and the ambient music was just gorgeous and fit with your art perfectly - both relaxing and informative watching you create and the words written to explain what you were doing when needed, so peaceful, inspiring and encouraging - certainly goes to show you don't need lots of colour to create something so beautiful! ANOTHER medium I will definitely be exploring- wishing you a Wonderful New Year :)

    Another fabulous creation! Thank you for sharing it with us. I noticed that you used a flat water brush...Do you find it give you more control, or is it because the sketch was more architectural? Thank you for doing another water soluble drawing!!!

    • @PeterSheelerart
      @PeterSheelerart  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. It is an extra fine nib. You can buy a converter or refill the ink canisters when empty. Lamy ink is not waterproof nor archival.

    It is nice to find you again, I watched you a few years ago. That is where I learned about water soluble Ink. I have taught so many people how to do that now. I’ve painted in oils for years, but I have found real joy in doing sketches in ink and watercolor. I carry it everywhere with me. Love finishing a sketch in just a few minutes. Stick them in a simple white mat and they sale. Thank you🌹

    When you were working with rubbing the surface with a paper towel, did you find that it abraded the papers' surface and/or damaged the sizing? The darker portion of the wall at the end of this video makes it look like the paper had developed a rough texture by the end of the work. It works for me - I like the textured look in this drawing, but there could be times when that would not be desirable.
    thanks!
