Ghost has a backstory, characters etc. It's all tounge-in-cheek and made for fun. They're supposed to be a Satanic group, the lead singer is supposed to be the anti-pope, and the band members are just known as "ghouls" who wear masks. The actual musician line-up changes, but the lead singer (who is also the writer and main dude) stays the same. His character changes over time, so for each new album he'd be a different "anti-pope" and the style of the music will change.
All their songs are about Satan, a lot of them sound like Christian rock, their older stuff was more metal. It's all for fun, nothing to take too seriously :) They even have story videos on their main channel, they're pretty funny too.
🤣 pretty much sums it up, man. Love this band and love the way they mess with everyone. We all take ourselves too seriously.

My wife grew up a devout Christian and this was the first ghost song I introduced her to. Now she's a bigger ghost fan than I am. Luckily got to see them live last year
I love Ghost. I feel like the band's "backstory" makes a ton of sense as a satanic cult type thing, because what's gonna get more followers? Creepy grotesqueries or some glitz 'n glamor? Clever shit right there. Good reaction as always y'all.

Eh, I don’t know about that... I think it might be “Come Crimson Death” by Jess and the Ancient Ones. There are a lot of beautiful Satanic songs out there.
Its not really about Satan. This song was written for the band friend who committed a suicide for Satan and about lead singers brother who passed away before Ghost became popular
I also see the Jim Jones aspect of the song. Seeing as he led people like that and he was worshipped and they all committed suicide because he said they needed to, and he is wearing the aviator sunglasses like Jim Jones used to always wear, plus the hairstyle is similar. To me it has a lot of different meanings not just an ode to Satan.

He says it early in the song perhaps you missed it but. The lyric is were guided by the morning star. And the "morning star" which is a reference to Lucifer the devil. A better song for you to listen to to help you to understand what we're really about, would be. Ritual, followed up by "Year Zero", I would also check out "Mummy Dust", and Ghuleh.
Ghost has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard them the lead singer Tobias Forge is a genius he writes the lyrics composes the music he does it all they are incredible live i hope to see them one day

Ghost are great. They have this whole shtic with the lead singer Tobias Forge performing and singing from the perspective of a satanic priest, pope or cardinal and play some really unique tunes. This is one of their most unusual songs, as it, as the two pointed out, parodies christian rock music, normally they go into a more heavy, but old school and synthesizer-infused direction. Quite interesting.
I've been to one of their concerts and I must say, I don't think I have seen a light show greater than their's.

Ghost is one of my favorite bands. I love the mythology they've built. I was raised in a religious home, but it didn't really stick. Seeing Ghost play this live, a few years ago was very close to a religious experience, though. Maybe I should be concerned. But then again, maybe not.

That's a new one. Not that I'm complaining, that juxtaposition is hilarious.
Every Ghost song has multiple meanings, which is why it's hard to pinpoint exactly what they're talking about. Take "He Is" for example.
1. On the surface, it's about Satan, but usually there is a deeper meaning to a Ghost song.
2. It's also about one of Tobias' (the singer) friends from another band who died.
3. It also used to be called "She Is," indicating some past meaning possibly not referenced in the current lyrics.
4. It's also about Tobias' brother who died. His brother got him into "rebellious" music.
5. It's also about Christian cult leaders like Jim Jones and Tony Alamo (there is a split second photo of Alamo in the video).
6. In conjunction with point #5, it could also be about God (or rather Ghost's perception of God), especially in the Catholic church. When you sing the words, "he's the shining in the light without whom I cannot see," there's nothing wrong with that. Then when you sing, "he is insurrection, he is spite, he's the force that made me be," suddenly there's a problem. You're singing those words blindly to a cult leader or a god. While it sounds great musically, you're praising someone who is actually evil and is screwing you.

I’d recommend the Ghost songs “Elizabeth” and “From the Pinnacle to the Pit” for you to do next-they’re my top three, along with “He Is”.
From the Pinnacle to the Pit is another great Ghost song. Something about the bassline reminds me of Hip Hop but I can't put my finger on what it is.

The lyrics to this song were written after Selim Lemouchi of the band The Devil's Blood committed suicide. That band is also definitely worth checking out, with songs like 'She', 'I'll be your ghost' and 'Christ or cocaine'.

Don’t know a lot of Ghost songs but I’ve heard a few on the radio. Square Hammer sounds to me like Duran Duran attempting a rock/ metal song... which is not a criticism because I ❤️ Duran Duran. It’s catchy!
