    Jonah Nilsson did ALL of the vocals on this song - Aron & Henrik were just vamping for the video. They are truly modern musical geniuses!

    • @RobertClaeson
      @RobertClaeson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe Jonah decided that "this song needs more vocals" and brought a chalkboard to the studio with each and every "voice" to sing described, and recorded himself over and over again.

      @@RobertClaeson Almost. It was Aron who came up with and wrote the gospel parts, according to an interview with Henrik, in Bass Magazine, but Jonah did have a chalk board with all the characters of the choir. :D

    "This is a call to some god" -- I would say that this song is at least in part modelled on the structure of gospel music, like the big choir and how when the verse-chorus is done, we slide into a groovy vamp ("the vamp" in gospel is when the chorus starts repeating a phrase and the soloist improvises over it) and then the fast paced finale.

      The origin is probably nineties indie pop in this case. Many bands do not take the finale seriously enough. It's just stupid to trip over the finish line.

    As Irene Snyder pointed out, the choir is all Jonah. Henrik (the bass player) said this about the creation of Next To You, in an interview in BassMagazine:
    "That song took forever to write. Aron and I wrote the chorus in 2016. We found it in a drawer and tried a bunch of new verses with it until we got the right one. Then at the last minute, Aron wrote the gospel choir parts. He sent a very funny demo in which he marked where all the different gospel parts come in and what kind of voice they had. When Jonah recorded them, he had a chalkboard with all the different characters in the choir, and he distorted his voice to match each character and so none of them would sound like him. The groove has our typical, swung-funk, triplet feel, but the key is the Bootsy funk formula of having a heavy one to make all the subdivisions after it work. Aron wrote the chorus bass line, which is keyboard bass-like, and it worked best with a combination of fingers and slapping."
    Both interesting and funny, eh?
    Also, their credits are full of funny stuff mixed in with the real info. Don't take everything at face value; they are such trolls. The dietician mentioned in the credits of Work Shit Out was ... Jabba the Hut, hence the mention here of the princess in a questionable bikini. 😂😂😂

      Super interesting, Lotta, thanks, and yeah, quite funny ;) ;) ;)
      To think that this track took forever to write and to hear about the complicated writing process is mind blowing, when listening to it feels so…right, natural and easy. Three masters at work ⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Lol! It's truly amazing. One of my favorites. A word to the wise, if you're singing along to this in the car, it is very easy to get swept away with the harmonies, attempt some hallelujah arm movements, forget what you're doing, & nearly drive into the ditch. Also, welcome to quite possibly the world's happiest church choir song that touts one's desire to get up next to someone in spite of the fact that you keep blowing up like TNT. So there's that, yeah. Perfection! Thanks for the reaction!
