My absolute favorite thing about John is that when he’s so tickled by something that he physically jumps or moves around or slaps his knee because he thinks it’s so funny. It’s adorable 😂

Add E: loving someone that much is truly wonderful...until you both end up in the hospital in the same year from two different things, and suddenly you realize, you're both OLD, and one of you is going to go first--and fairly soon. That's not wonderful at all. Better to have loved and lost, though? I don't know about that.

@@ryanjofre, after 6 years I'm still not sure. True love, the exceptional kind that not everyone experiences, is so indescribably wonderful and puts you on a natural high. On the one hand I feel blessed to have had that, and yet for the same reason I wish I hadn't, because life without it feels so numb and bleak. At times I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to not know what I miss. To not know the difference between the with him and without him. To not have a perpetual gray cloud over my life.

"lucky" yes. but it's partially a mindset to be there in that space.
also not lucky if you're the children of that. (kinda lucky, bc you grow up in an insanely convivial and happy household. not so lucky if you're an "oops" baby, when both parents die within 6 weeks when you're 16 yrs old. but the first 16 yrs were legit #goals .)

Wonderful interview. These two are legendary together. So sharp witted, timing seems effortless. Would love to see Stephen, Conan, John Oliver, and Craig Ferguson in the same room riffing off one another. How can we make that happen?!!

"The most harrowing idea would be that I would spend any part of my life without her, because that would be a level of loneliness and irreplaceable, irredeemable emotional desolation that I could not possibly contemplate. And I understand why old men die like a month after their wives go, because how I will actually die is she will die first and I will not last a year."
God damn Colbert. That's one of the most eloquent and emotionally moving things I've ever heard and he just came up with it on the spot trying to describe how much he loves his wife.

He remembers the key of "One Week" within like a whole step, even though John Oliver primed him with the wrong key (I had to check the recording). I was impressed by his musical abilities and that led me to an emotional interview, referenced on his wikipedia page. It's cool to learn more about him.

First of all, was i ready for Stephen Colbert to bring up All Star by Smash Mouth? Absolutely not.
Second of all, that final answer got me all teary-eyed. I wasn't ready for that it either.

Damn that's so cute what he said about his wife. Getting a bit teary because when he said that I was reminded of that interview with Keanu Reeves about death.
