    * Receiver Sennheiser EK 100 - geni.us/MJpuMn (Amazon)
    Note: Make sure to get the same band / frequency range when it comes to your wireless transmitter and receiver if you buy them separately. For example: "A-Band" or "G-Band" etc.

    I purchased the Rode recorder mic and cable as you recommended in this video, along with the M6 Mk ii you recommended in a different video - the hiss is savage. I've tried reducing the volume on the camera settings but then it's too quiet. What am I doing wrong and why is the hiss hugely present at all volume settings?

      Was a good review but should have monitored the audio on the H1 before doing that interview, was a little over cranked, also be aware if you run your fingers over the plastic on the H1 it will pick it up, great mike but would avoid holding the body when recording if possible, speaking from experience.

  • @SMGJohn

    Røde mic has like -56 gain which everyone fails to mention, this can be a severe deal breaker for most people because they do not have equipment enough to boost that

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Savannah Finnessey
      It means the Røde mic is pretty awfully unsensitive and needs to be boosted heavily to obtain normal level. Preferably -7 or -3 audio levels.

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Savannah Finnessey
      What are you connecting it to? The mic needs phantom power and the boost means for example any device with XLR input that has a dial allowing you to make the microphone "louder" if you will.
      If you do not make the mic "louder" in the XLR device, you get a very quiet sound, but if you boost it in post (in software) you get a lot of noise in the background.

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Savannah Finnessey
      Its not gonna do the job, you need XLR input with ability to boost the mic.

    Id really like a mic 🎤 that is wireless & handheld that is cheap. Like $50 or less no more than $100. Mainly for the interviews when I go in public it will look better than those who use their iPhones 📲. Also I thought about just using my boom mic 🎙 some of my cameras 🎥 came with them haven’t really done a lot of outside recording mostly in door in front of my green screen.

    Hey dude, I bought the Rode Reporter and the Sescom cable from this review. I'm having difficulty with the connection. I noticed you have your hand right where the XLR cable meets the mic, but you have no issues. With mine, it cuts the audio completely out. Is that normal? I really need your help. I need to be filming some stuff on the street and I'm in a huge bind. Is it the mic? Is it the cord? Here's a video so you can see exactly what's going on. th-cam.com/video/GexzJFXeGeo/w-d-xo.html

      i just used a Sony IDC - UX533 in my pocket set at medium level to record my now deceased brother in law from 10 feet away. No one was aware of this but, i thought it would be liked sometime in the future. i've used it at a podium stuck there with gaffers tape and it did a wonderful job of picking up the speaker person. I also have a Roland R-05 for doing he same. both are great recorders. I presume the one he's using is also good.

  • @coolwing449
    @coolwing449 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m going to be that guy. Why is it that most times I pull up some rando TH-cam video by professed pros in the AV field that the AV is usually not good that great. Yes, good content and pretty decent edit, but right from the start I cringed. No sound treatment in the room which has a ton of reflection, what sounds to recorded with the built in mic on camera and the distracting image warp from what looks to be a 28mm or 35mm shot up close. You’re telling me that there’s no sound treated room or set around for proper audio capture and the best place available was the room with the most reflection in the house. Why not try the bathroom next time? And with all the gear probably available, was there no lav laying around or even better, a nice overhead boomed HyperCard? And lastly, unless there’s some creativity I’m missing out on, why not video at a normal focal length like 50mm, what’s with the crazy distortion? Oh, and did no one pick up on all of the handling noise on the xlr cord he’s was so jazzed about.
    Look, I know this isn’t some high budget Hollywood Productio, but when people profess to own/run a production company and make instructional videos for those who are tying to learn, I feel the least they can do is spend a few extra minutes, use some good techniques and produce a solid product. If I knew anything about AV, I’d wonder about the quality of content coming out of this company.
    However, the only qualification to teach is to know more than the students...

    I realise this comment is very late. I appreciate the evaluation of the various microphones and you make some very valid points which have helped me to decide on which factors to look out for when choosing a "reporters" microphone, but I cannot express how annoying the sound effect you use for your visual prompts on screen is, I find It interrupts your vocal to a quite alarming extent. I respectfully ask you to either loose the sound effect completely, or at least turn it down by 20dB or so.

    I most often use the Zoom h1. Allthough you have to get the Wind cover for it (included in the accessories kit) otherwise you might experience swosh noises if the interviewer moves the recorder too rapidly..
    I am considering upgrading the setup further with a Røde Reporter or similar and then using a xlr to 3.5 mm adapter cable to connect it to the H1

    Hi Sean & Everyone! Sean, in addition to the Zoom H1, what other wireless handheld mics would you recommend for $250 or less? Also, I have lapel mics, and use the iRig Mic HD corded handheld mic. Pros on that is it's a great mic, with volume control right on the mic, cable is micro usb to lightning cable which goes records right into my iphone. The con is that the cord is only 5 ft., and needs to be longer. Thanks in advance! David

    I have a rode reporter and I plug it to the the zoom h1 but when I reproduce the audio it only works in the left channel, nothing come from the right one, so, when I am editing I have to put the left channel also as right channel, so the people can hear properly. Will the cable that you mentioned help or how can I fix that ?
    Good video!

    We use a RØDE lavelier mic under the shirt for our vids... But as you said in the video.. the editing gets a lil more tricky! Awesome video as always Sean! For voiceover we use a Snowball Ice ;)

    @thinkmedia Do you think the RE50B is a better mic noisee-wise than the rode wireless go? I bought the re50B and I use XLR into the wireless receiver but now Rode has a handheld mic adapter that I was looking into

    Why don't you show us how to edit the sound of the zoom h1 in something like audacity since you've suggested the microphone to us?

      In all fairness to the guy, this wasn't supposed to be an Audacity tutorial. There are plenty of tutorials out there for that.

    l'm still waiting for the wireless transmitter (only) to be sold for the Rode Reporter microphone. Shame on Rode for their marketing method of saying it will be released soon eight months later, but forcing their loyal customers who have already bought the Rode FilmMaker Kit, to buy both a transmitter AND the receiver again.

    Do you have any suggestion for classical music videos ? especially for microphones ? I have a zoom q3hd but the sound quality , especially for the violin , is not very good .

    We use the sennheiser G1 wireless mic system, Zoom H1, Yamaha Pocketrak PR7 (Like the Zoom H1), and a takstar SGC-598 on board Shotgun mic. We even use our first wireless mic, the Radioshack 33-3013 lapel mic. Can plug into either recorder. We use it in a pinch.
