The word 'horrendous' as an experience would be an understatement to that horrible event that could have meant the end of them all, quite literally. Worse, their earnings were taken as 'extortion money' and as if they performed for free and got little to none at all when they left. I'd understand Ringo for *hating* the Philippines at the time, especially when you got uppercut-ted and floored and getting kicked on the way out towards the plane. If I got subjected to that kind of treatment, who wouldn't be traumatised. You were there to perform, not getting mauled and beaten up. It's musical entertainment, not MMA.

Nothing to do with the president, but while the band were playing, a riot broke out all the way in the back betwixt the crown and police, over what it wasn't said. Things escalated to a full blown riot until the band were forced to leave the stage after manager Peter Grant decided that enough was enough. They fled and hid in the dressing room, locked the door, and stayed there until the storm died down. Acc to road manager Richard Cole, Zeppelin 'never again returned to Italy.' But I've been to Italy and I think it's a rather nice place.
