- Honda Odyssey No Build Minivan Camper Conversion. Kyle and Sandi decided that it's time to get out and explore now that their Honda Odyssey is no longer used to shuttle their children full-time. One of the key elements of this build is including a full size bed for them to sleep comfortably. They have worked hard to get to this point in their lives, and now it's time to experience something new! In this episode, we take their normal minivan, and add some of the necessities for a minivan camper conversion such as power station, mini fridge, solar panel, and ice maker. An Ice maker is not usually something I would include, but Sandi loves ice! Wish them luck on their journey!
Tabitha and I occasionally camp together, and she LOVES IT! See our experience here:

Re: the ice for iron deficiency. Eating ice does not fix the low iron! Your wife should get iron (oral or even injection if needed). Low iron makes some people crave ice, but eating the ice does not fix the problem!!!
His beard and his shirt say it all.
You can eat things high in iron . Also prenatal vitamins are high in iron . Or just take Iron .
I am interested in buying all you shown ut I do not understand how to find links I am computer illeterate❤
She should cook with cast iron. It's a start.
@@Buxtonphil"ice happy"
The bed frame is nice and lightweight. But there is not enough headroom. I know cargo boxes are expensive, but sometimes you can find a used one for a reasonable price. Stuff could be stored in a cargo box , which would allow more interior space, so the bed could be lowered, and this would make the interior space much more comfortable.
I used to chew ice all the time and then found out about the iron issue. I started to take iron. But these days I do have an ice maker because I love really cold water to drink all day long. I am redoing my RV completely and I will absolutely have my ice maker with me.
2:10 so many awesome ideas for a no build mini Build conversion 3:12 happy wife, happy life may there be ice
Interesting build. Something that can be done & undone in a few minutes. They definitely need to cut the legs and get a much, much smaller mattress
Exactly. They are getting a 4 inch memory foam mattress which will add about 10 inches of head space. That mattress is very comfortable, but too high.
We used a similar set up in our minivan. Cut the legs down and use two 25” wide folding mattresses 4” thick. Gives much more headroom. The shelves for the platform are 2’ by 3’ resulting in a 4’ by 6’ bed. The mattresses were a little long and we cut off one end. My husband and I are both short so the bed works for us. Use zip ties to attach the shelves to each other and bungee cords to hold the bed down for safety.
Great Video! I think its a wonderful "No Build" starter for Kyle and Sandi. They got some good equipment and they can modify as they go.
I think you did a great job on this video and its great you have suppliers that contributed.... Good Luck to All (grin).
Thanks! I look forward to meeting up with them again to find out how their trip went. I’m glad those companies let me do that as well. It’s more fun than a traditional review video.
I love my old school full size blow-up air mattress for the back of my van. It works well for two people.
I would want more headroom
They’re going with a lower mattress.
Bed Frame . Going to definitely look into find pieces (name brand) that will fit for a Chrysler Town & Country have been trying to get this worked out .A lot of combinations with this kind of bed frame. Genius, Thank You for this Video
9:46 watching this video from the trail while hiking mainly listening so much information another great video
We have the tent for the back....I highly recommend it. It's worth the investment.
That’s awesome. I’ve thought about one as well, but even my awning locks me in place when it’s out.
What’s the name of the tent for the back? Thank you
I love the platform bed. I really enjoy watching your videos. They are very informative.
Nice! Thanks for stopping in and sharing your thoughts!
One thought? What if the ice maker were turned around 180° so the lid opens from the middle nearer the passenger side? The driver's seat wouldn't need to be moved up for the lid to be raised and she wouldn't need to be outside to get to the ice.
That’s an excellent idea. I’ll share it with them and see how it works out.
That's what I thought when he first put it in; I was waiting to see if he would turn it around.
That’s what I was thinking. That way she could access it while they were on the road.
That's what I thought when I saw him put it in and the opening was on the other side, that it would be easier for her to just reach back and grab her ice if it opened towards the passenger seat.
Tell your clients that diet Pepsi contains compounds that block iron absorption. Also, that while low iron levels make you crave ice to chew, ice does not help your anemia. You need either more iron in your diet or suppliments, or injections from your doctor. The soda is not your friend.
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
"to keep the wife happy"...nuff said❤
The key to a peaceful marriage.
0:56 I absolutely love ❤️ the story line
This is so cool!!!! ❤❤
Got to have my fan!! We have one of those tents, got a honda van also!
Liked and subbed!! ❤❤❤ love your videos!
That’s awesome! I appreciate it.
Get me some of that ice. 😁. Get a 6” mattress and your set.
Exactly. Ice cold drinks and a perfect place to relax.
there is a ton of space if you take out the rear facing seats that is folded under the floor
You do not need to be on the road long-term if you’re making an icemaker, you’re a priority. I recommend a comfortable bed so you get a good nights rest, so when you wake up, you start thinking straight.
I would remove the center console and put the ice machine there, then removed the rear seats and put the power station and some other things there. Then I would cut those bed legs to the the platform as close to the ground as possible and get a lower profile mattress. That shot of them laying on the mattress made me claustrophobic.
Instead of trying to make the ice maker fit she should deal with her anemic issue. I am in health care and had the same issue. This problem is very unhealthy and could cause other problems later on. It was a long process including blood and it on infusion but it is worth it and I am in better health.
Nice
I’m happy that you enjoyed it!
8:25 beautiful unit
So cool!!! :D
Nice! Thank you!
6:04 nice power stations
Like the idea of bedframe I'm one person it's 24 inches wide by 80 long if I use 2 / 2 by fours down the length of the bed that would give me two more inches. Come down to time or effort. I'm not that big and I only sleep in one position and I think it would take about 26 inches for me what do you think. Like the idea of the simpleness of it. It would give me plenty a room for my dog to sleep. Concerned about the dogs I am about myself you animal lovers understand yeah I would cut two by fours size of unit so I could move them in and out no problem any ideas also great video thank you very much takes time and effort and kindness to put such good work out
We travel and sleep in our Odyssey as well! We love it. We have a similar power system and refrigerator as well. We are continually changing and tweaking things after each trip. We bought memory foam pieces for our bed. What is the name of the bed frame? Thanks for the video!
I’ll follow up with them soon to find out how their travels went.
fun video
Thanks!
Instead of cutting legs, elongate legs by cutting PVC pipe to slide right over the legs. Add as many inches as you need.
I had to buy extension cables for my solar panels. Unfortunately, that does reduce the amount of wattage that goes to the power station. The more adapters and extensions, the greater the loss.
I would use a thinner mattress to have more space.
And/or cut the legs in half.
@@gaylewilliams9938 I'd want to keep that storage though.
I believe they ultimately went with a much thinner mattress. I’ll follow up with them soon!
Great video, I am using a 2007 Element now for camping, ok for my grandson and I, but plan on moving into my wife’s 2014 Odyssey as soon as I get her a new one in 2024. I have bought a full size air mattress to use and tried it out without a platform. I think having the Craftsman shelves would be good but I would shorten. I have a Ecoflow battery with solar panel. Still deciding on which fridge to use.
Nice! It sounds like you already have an excellent setup. Those shelves were around $100, so not too expensive. And, the plastic legs are easy to trim. The Odyssey has plenty of room. The mattress is another place to get back some headroom.
@@OffGridAdventure What size were they? (Yes I asked above as well)
What size were those shelves? I have an Honda Odyssey and I love this idea!
Hi, the link for the shelves is in the video description. I believe the shelf surface 24”x40”. Thanks for asking.
can you provide more information about Craftsman bed frame ?
Hi, The bed frame is actually a shelving unit. The link is in the video description.
Thanks@@OffGridAdventure
You need a 400 watt bifacial panel on the roof.
Put a command strip for scoop
This video would be a lot more useful if it cut 90% of the ice maker nonsense and cut the musical intercuts.
I really need to know how ice helps low iron levels in your blood! Seriously, I'm anemic, do tell!
I’m not sure. I think the ice mostly helps with staying hydrated and cooling. I’m not sure if there is an element of hydration related to iron deficiency.
It doesn’t help with anemia. However, a symptom of anemia is pica, which is craving non-nutritional items. And, for many people with anemia, it manifests as a craving for ice.
So, for me, with being anemic, I crave ice and very cold gum. I chew Eclipse polar ice and chew tons of ice. Unfortunately, ice is bad for the teeth. I have to have it though. FREEZIMER sent a small nugget ice machine. This type of ice helps my craving and decreases the damage done to my teeth that big ice can cause. It doesn't medically help, but unfortunately, it's just something I crave. I take iron and have infusions, but it's a battle to get my iron up to a normal level.
@@peacefulexistence Correct, the ice wont help the illness, you need medical help to correct the problem. Ice wont eliminate the illness. Tons of supplements and food that helps with the problem
@@Misery4starz22i take blackstrap molasses for my anemia. I couldn't tolerate the supplements, shots etc.
No way is that enough for 2 ppl to sleep in. It’s barely enough for one
Have you tried it?
Cut the bed frame legs down😊
I love this one!! I was looking into an ice machine for my rig, too 🧊
Ice is a luxury, but it makes a huge difference in the summer heat.

I’ve doesn’t have iron in it
I spoke with her after and it’s more of a non nutritional dietary supplement.
@@OffGridAdventure Water is not a dietary supplement.
That mattress is ridiculous...you can't even turn over on the bed! If you want that mattress.....lose the platform.....just level the floor with a sheet of plywood and shimy it. You can even raise it up 4-6" for a little storage.....or simply cut the legs on the shelving 2 lower it to 12"....tops. and cover with a mattress topper. I woukd not be able to sleep in that thing. I don't know how that guy even fts in there without a giant shoehorn!
People are nuts. The only way to sleep in a vehicle like this is put platform right on floor then mattress. No legs. You can not be 2 inches from ceiling. It sucks..because you can store stuff under bed. But in the REAL world having legs long term or even more then a few nights is a no go for everyone. I know. I tried .
I have a 14” tall bed frame. No issues for me.
@@OffGridAdventure how far is your head from the ceiling ? You have less then 12 inches of space?
Having the mattress off the floor so air can circulate around the mattress can help prevent mold. I would definitely build a lower platform though.
He’s is unsleepable. Drop it down just enough to fit like 6” tall bins. There’s no way they even sleep in it with no head room like that.
Only a trumper would think ice has iron in it. Lmao
eating ice is a symptom of low iron, but does NOTHING to relieve this condition, your wife just likes to eat ice. it's NOT helping to correct the problem, you correct low iron by supplementing the diet
You're correct. It's called Pica. I used to eat Sonic ice all the time and paper. When I corrected the iron deficiency that all went away.
These are some interesting insights. Thanks for sharing. I know that she’s working with some supplements, so hopefully that will help long term.
Sorry I couldn't watch your video because of the music, it made my head hurt in less than 10 minutes. Good bye !!!!!
The wife looks very sick. I hope she's prioritizing getting her anemia fixed with help from her doctor, red meat and liver cooked every day in cast iron, and iron pills.
The issue that she has is it because she's drinking diet coke and the caffeine washes out all the stuff that she needs for her body to function
Did it ever occur to u that she needs a doctor to prescribe iron pills . What are u gonna do when she starts eating dirt. Allow it? Come on man, grow a pair.
He’s not her father.
Rather sleep in a coffin.
I’m sure you’d enjoy that.
Or...you could sell this car and put a huge downpayment on a real van...much more comfortable!!!
That’s an excellent idea, but I think they’re enjoying what they have without accruing any additional expenses.
How much strong bed frame legs ?
This is ridiculous, it’s one big commercial. This isn’t a camper van it’s a mattress in a van
Nice
Yo! How’s it going? Thanks for stopping in!
