This was exactly what we needed for our no build 2007 Honda Odyssey. Thanks a lot, Justin. You have no idea how much time you’ve saved us with this information.
Thanks Patrick! I'm so glad to hear it. Not sure if you are camping solo or with a companion. In case it is helpful to you, here' the link to my other vid that shows my setup for two-person sleeping. Cheers! th-cam.com/video/ILP-y7Hrqrs/w-d-xo.html
Ohmuhgosh! I have watched every TH-cam van bed idea for the last year and nothing just seemed to click. This set up absolutely hits every need of mine. I’m absolutely buying this for my Chrysler Pacific minivan. I can’t believe more people don’t know about this. Thank you thank you thank you
That's most realistic video i have seen. Don't want an over engineered rig to enjoy the nature. Thanks for this, will be doing something similar. Cheers from BC, Canada
As you have roof bars you could attach a tarp to the side using ball bungees to the roof bars and two additional extendable poles to make living, sitting area
Justin this is my second video of yours, the first being the single conversion. Both are excellent. And in this one having your lovely bride contribute was wonderful. She seemed very genuine. Two questions please: your cooking/meal prep and your potty/hygiene needs? Perhaps you address those in other videos so I will subscribe and look thru. Thanks for great stuff Justin. Very fun to watch.
Thanks for the kind words. I use my backpacking gas stove to cook sometimes but we prefer to cook by the campfire when possible. A few of my vids show the meals my wife comes up with. I talk a bit about bathroom in this video th-cam.com/video/VeyUk2bqCXM/w-d-xo.html

@JustinHikes What a gorgeous view! Thanks for including the sunrise. Liked Helen's comment about the "nightstands" too. Don't have a van but I'm subscribing just to support your videos bc they're so enjoyable. Love the beard!
Thanks so much for the kind words! Not everyone appreciates the beard. Haha. Every time I shear it off I say "I'm bringing it back. Now with more grey!" Cheers!
That's a great bed setup for the sloped back to level it out. What do you use on the Odyssey window openings to keep the misquitos out when you have the windows open @ night during warmer temps?
Thanks and great question! I have mesh screens for the windows, sunroof and even the tailgate. I'm planning on posting a video about how I stay cool while camping in the summer.
Beautiful job Justin! Love to watch your ideas . Would you pls let me know from where we can buy wooden extended supports which you are using to extend your beds ? Can you send me link to purchase? How much it cost ? Thanks in advance....
Hi, the wooden supports are made by Trunk Mate. Check out their website for details. If you have any issue finding what you need you can give them a call. Those guys are really helpful. Cheers and happy camping!
As a tall guy, do you have trouble fitting on the front seat? I always find that I am too crammed in since most minivans don't offer much leg room for the driver.
Hi Tony. The second row seat do slide up on the Odyssey but not quite like the Sienna. I'm not sure my bed would fit without removing the seats. I'm 6'3". I was seriously considering the Sienna but having the OPTION to remove the seats was important to me. I used to have an older Sienna and the seats came out easily on the older models. Anyway, the Sienna still makes for a great minivan camper too. Cheers!
Great question Tris. I have a small fan and mesh screens for all the windows including the sunroof. I'm planning on creating a video on this topic soon. Cheers!
Nice set up. How much room is there between the bed and door when the door is closed? Or can you move the seat up and have room on the floor? I'm wondering about being able to answer natures call during the night without getting out of the van.
Hi. There’s about six inches between the bed and the side door. You can move the front seats up and gain some room. When nature calls I leave the van. 😀If you don’t need the double bed then you gain quite a bit of room. I have a couple of videos showcasing the solo bed setup. Best of luck and happy minivan camping!
Hello Justin. You are great. I want to check with you, does the Honda Odyssey realiable to drive? I heard that it got lots of problems on their old models
Roughly $3000.00 for the two person no build. The plywood box alone is $1500 for a double and seems pretty flimsy. Roof top storage is over $1000.00. How is the quality on these things? Do they hold up for regular use? I’m not talking every day, but even just several trips over one summer season.
Hi Tracy. When I bought my minivan I set aside a budget for off the shelf items I could use to make a quick conversion into a comfortable camper. For me the money was a good investment. My wife and I have had many comfortable nights sleeping in our minivan over the past two years. The Trunk Mate bed is quite sturdy and has held up perfectly for us. Happy camping and cheers!
Thanks for the reply Justin. The market is flooded with so many high priced, low quality products that I try to stick with old school or diy where I can. Glad the purchases worked out for you, though.
Hi, it’s not cheap, that’s true. My hat’s off to folks who build their own or are satisfied throwing down a mattress or a cot. When I bought the minivan I set aside a budget for off the shelf items that would help me convert quickly to a COMFORTABLE setup. I’m not trying to persuade you, just sharing my reasoning. Also, I’m ok paying a little more for high quality items made in the USA. Cheers and happy camping however you set it up!
I purchased double trunk mate boxes with drawers about a month ago and love them so much! It was so nice to not have to find a place or purchase tools to build something on my own. Grant has been so amazing to work with. I actually purchased my system using affirm so I could pay over time which helped me financially.
Good question! I don't usually camp in the winter and therefore don't need heat. Here's a link to a vid I just created about keeping cool in the minivan in summer. th-cam.com/video/X9EkxIBhJ60/w-d-xo.html
What is the width and length of this unit, I'm definitely interested in one that is about 24 23 in wide about 68 in long. Do you guys have a single in that size
I don't work for Trunk Mate, I'm just a happy customer. My bed is 24" wide. I forget the exact length but I'm 6'3" and it's long enough. For more info, check out the Tech Specs section on the Trunk Mate website. You can also reach out to them directly with questions. I had quite a few before I bought mine and the guys at Trunk Mate were really helpful. Cheers!
I slept in my van down to 19F. Water froze in console but down comforter kept us warm. We just throw a memory foam mattress on the floor with a wedge of foam below to level and soften the middle seat hardware in our 2010 Odyssey
Hi. I bought the bed from Trunk Mate. In case you are interested in buying one, there's link in the video Description as well as a coupon code (JUSTINHIKES) to get $75 OFF a purchase.
Hi Bin, I won't try to change your mind but I will explain my reasoning for buying the Trunk Mate. When I bought my minivan I set aside a budget to buy off the shelf items that will help me easily and quickly convert my minivan from an everyday driver into a comfortable camper. For me the Thule rooftop carrier, trailer hitch cargo carrier and Trunk Mate sleeping platform were all worthwhile purchases. But that is only what works for ME. If you want to spend time camping in your minivan then the only thing that matters is what works for YOU. Whether that's an even more minimalist setup or a custom build if it gets you out in nature then it's money well spent. Cheers and happy camping!
Depending upon the company you keep the best way to provide sleeping space for two is to stack them one on top of the other. Also provides incentive for her to keep her weight down!

A company in St. Catharines On Canada called Napier makes a Tent which will go over your open lift gate and add lots of space for you.
Hi Wade, thanks for the info. I'll check Napier out. Cheers!

"extending out" the bed was mentioned a couple of times. What about "extending in" the bed?
I'm not sure I understand your question. Yes, you can easily fold up the bed to store it and then just set it up when you want to sleep.
