A great video, as usual. Lots of relevant info, always to the point, I never feel I want to skip ahead. And _gorgeous_ photos. Yours should be one of the most subscribed Fuji channels, in the 100 thousands.
Dylan, I always appreciate your sensible and objective take on lenses. More so, I really appreciate your compositional capabilities and the images you capture. All the best.
Thanks for your Video. I use all 3 Versions. The XF27 to carry my X-T5 everyday with me. For Streetfotography i use the Viltrox 1.2. I Love the look with 1.2. And my wife uses the Artisan Lens her xt-30 for everyday use. For Streetfotography she uses the Viltrox 75 f1.2, because she doesn' t like to be so close to people. If i had to choose only 1 Lens. It would be the Viltrox 27 f1.2. Regards Dirk
Once again your sample gallery proves that a skilled photographer can take great images with any lens. Beautiful work Dylan, as always, and a really thoughtful video. Thank you
RIght? After whole review of all details and nuances between the three i found no big difference at the ending slideshow. Dylan is able to make beautiful photos with any lens and thats a lesson for all of us :)
I stumbled across your channel 'by accident', but really like your style. It's a pleasure to listen to your take on lenses. I have the old 27mm Fuji and it is a great little walk-around lens. But I'm tempted by the Viltrox.
If the X-Pro4 had been released I'd be very interested in the Voigtlaender 27mmF2 for the dynamic framing with the HybridVF. There's now an m-mount 28mmF2.8 which is only 106g, so that's high on my wishlist instead since it can be used across systems nicely. I'm a big fan of the original XF27.
I’ve found the small fuji to be the perfect allrounder to go with x-pro 3. The focal length is more interesting than 23/35mm. Its size makes it brilliant to shoot with when using the OVF. And when paired with a squarehood, it looks awesome too :D
Would be interesting to hear your thoughts comparing the Fuji 23 1.4 MKII and the Viltrox 27. Back to the 27 focal length. I was always put off by the AF motors of the Fuji 27 2.8 old and new versions I had, so I never really gave the focal length a chance. The 27 1.2 makes me want to get out there and explore what I can do with it. So yes it's heavier - and I agree you feel it at the end of a lounger day - and the flaring and ghosting make an appearance a lot more often than is ideal, it brings a lot of joy and I enjoy the swirly bokeh. Just a pity it isn't an f1.4, which honestly would have been plenty if it would have made the lens closer to the XF 23 or 33 in size and weight.
I got the tt artisan to put on an old X-E1 to leave in the car so I always have a camera everywhere I go... Apart from the vignetting (which I don't mind as helps frame subjects) I have no regrets for the price 👌🏼
Looking to get the voigtlander 27mm f2 ultron to replace a good but soft wide open kamlan 28mm f1.4. Don't know why the fuji version don't appeal to me
Great video Dylan, as always! I owned the Fujifilm XF27mm WR version and found its optical quality quite good for all the reasons you state; but I quickly returned it because I incorrectly thought that coupled with my X-T3 I could create a pocket camera. Unfortunately, my camera plus this lens is not really pocketable... thus the return.
Viltrox 27 is beast :) There is much more in it than in 75 compared to Samyang - in both focal length Viltrox excels. But that 27mm is definetly one of the best.
I already own the Xf27mm, and very happy with the portability. Very much aware of the versatility of the Viltrox 27mm f1.2, but I will pass. However, if I don’t already have the XF27mm, it will be an extremely difficult decision?
Possibly a more difficult one, indeed. It's all down to what you prioritise, as I said. If you're happy with your current lens, there's no need to change it up!
Hi, Dylan, this was great, and most timely. I've come around to wanting to try the 27mm field of view. However, I am looking at pancake lenses. Because I would like better low-light performance and have heard good things about the image quality, I've just about convinced myself to get the Voigtlander 27mm f2 Ulton. However, (a) it's MF only, and I am still slow at that and have an X-T30 mk1 which may make things slower?; (b) it's non-native so there's that concern about it being future-proof; and (c) it's pricier than the XF mk II (and even the Viltrox). Do you have any experience with this lens, or these higher-end Cosina Voigtlanders in general? I haven't been able to try one out so in the back of my mind I always worry that I have been hypnotized by hype! (I'd say I'd be open to other ideas, but I'm not a 23mm fan, the XF 30 is bigger, and I already have my needs covered for wider (13, 16) and longer (35, 50-140).)
Thanks for watching! I actually own the Voigtlander 50mm for X mount and I do have a few thoughts that will hopefully help you. a) Me, too. Even after years of manual focusing on my old Nikon film bodies, I just could never get good at it. It still takes me forever to find focus. The small viewfinder on the X-T30 isn't going to do you any favours, but the rear LCD may be easier. b) I wouldn't worry too much about that. Unless Fujifilm changes something really drastic, it should remain compatible. Cosina is a fairly large company, as well, so they'd likely update the lens if needed. c) Yep, they charge a pretty penny for their name, that's for sure. Honestly, I still can't figure out why. Hope that helps!
@@DylanGoldbyPhotographer Thank you for replying! It is comforting to hear that you can be a professional and it still can take a fair bit of time. I'll try out using the rear display to see if that helps. (It is probably better than my, "ooh red lines showed up kinda where I was hoping for, I'm sure I'm fine" approach!) The notes about the company sticking around gives me a bit of comfort. Looks like this fool and his money is about to make a move! Cheers
I sold my 18 f2 but really miss having a compact lens for walking around.. saw a TTartisans for $98 on Ebay and couldn't resist (should be here in a few days).. I have the fantastic Fuji 23 wr lm for work so I don't have a need for the Viltrox not could I see spending the money for the Fuji
When it comes to everyday photography the Fuji 27 WR wins. Its compact, has an aperture ring. However, the Viltrox could be a compelling portrait photography workhorse.

Welcome! The Viltrox is quite a special lens. Not so much a walkaround lens but it produces some lovely images.

Great focus on important aspects of use. Glad i came across your TH-cam channel.

Great video man as always..! Have you tried the Voigtlander ultron 27mm f2 manual lens for Fuji?
Great video!

When will you upload the review of TTartisan 35 F1.8? I really look forward to it.

Wow, didn't expect the Fujifilm AF to be so jarring.
