Thanks for the review! I already have this lens for my X-T30, but I'm planning to sell it and get an X-T5, so it was nice to see how well the lens passes to that camera.
I have or had all three of 27mm f2.8 offerings from Fujifilm or TTartisans. Frankly I prefer the TTartisans model. Both the original Fuji and the WR one have slow noisy AF. The TTarstisans does not. The original Fuji feels the best built and the TTartisan and WR feel about the same despite the big asking price. I prefer the implementation of the aperture ring on the TTartisans compared to the WR despite the claims made by some channels on TH-cam that the WR has a nicer one. WR on this type of lens is a bit pointless as the lens feels best on the smaller non WR bodies. The TTartisans is not a true pancake being slightly larger than the Fuji's, but I prefer that. The only downside is vignetting*, but I do not find it too bad as long as one never uses the pointless supplied lens hood where vignetting becomes awful. Tip, keep that lens hood for use on TTartisans 35mm f1.4 where it works really well. I have both the 25mm f2 also. To me they are completely different lenses, I like the 25mm as it provides just a hint of wideness whereas the 27mm is still definitely a standard lens in the look of images. Also of course being MF zone focusing can be used with ease on the 25mm and it feels like a nice, dense little thing. Pair it with its sibling the TTartisans 50mm f2 and you have a really nice, small 2 lens kit that covers most subjects well. Whereas I prefer the 27mm if I just want to carry one lens. *When shooting B&W I almost always add vignetting to photo's in post so for me this is not even a downside.
I think the Fuji lenses are great lenses but at the prices they are selling for I just don’t understand how people are buying them! I saw a 27 WR sell for 800 AUD the other day which is utter lunacy!! The TTArtisan lenses have flaws sure but they are unbeatable value for money!
If you "don't have to send it back," then you were paid for the review. It may not have been monetary compensation but you were indeed compensated with a free lens that normally costs around $150.
Nothing against this channel, but in general, the bigger conflict of interest that basically all TH-cam gear reviewers have is simpler: referral links. They make money when people click through their description and buy the product, so they are incentivized to make people want to buy the product. I’m still glad there is so much coverage of lenses, and video makers need to make money somehow, but that is why I try to take any TH-cam review with a grain of salt.
I think if I was to pick one I’d probably get the 25 because it is just a bit more fun to shoot with. I like the close focus ability of it and because you are the one focusing it’s not hard to get most shots in focus, whereas with the 27 you are relying on its average autofocus. The 27 is technically superior in the corners but the 25 is just a really fun little lens and so cheap too!
Solid review, flash photography really elevates a lens. I just want to clarify that the "WR" in Fujifilm lenses stands for "Weather Resistant", and the "R" stands for the "aprture ring". I know its a bit of a moot point since I believe most WR primes also have the ring, but regardless that is what the terms mean. I bought this lens and it's glued to my X-T2, really goes well with it's sensor. I like it's bokeh for the price.
The griiix is going to be a much better quality lens, not to mention much more compact then this setup, but for sure get this lens and see if 40mm is suitable for you before spending the money on the griiix!
How is IQ compared with a iPhone 16 ProMax. I just got the XT30ii and am trying to decide if I made a good purchase. Sure the body is cool as are the recipes, but that's nothing I can't replicate by shooting RAW and editing in LRM.
Good review. Just bought a new one on ebay for $99 USD. Plan to use it on my x-e1 as a semi pocketable travel lens. One thing I don't understand is why anyone wants a wide angle lens to function as a macro lens. I would never buy this lens to get closer than 35cm to my subject. If I want to shoot macro, I will use a macro lens. Same as I wouldn't try to shoot epic landsape with a 105mm macro lens.
I have used this lens extensively. It is NOT good. The AF hit rate is very low and a lot of my photos miss critical focus even if I am shooting at 5.6 and in good light. Not recommended.
I use this lens on an X-Pro1. 27mm in the optical finder offers nice bright lines, with enough space around the edge to anticipate figures entering the composition. Think 40mm lens in a 28mm viewfinder. To fill the optical frame, hold the lever and it flips to a magnified view. Combined with back button focus it's a very handy combo.
I've been looking at this one since my 27mm fuj died. I'd be whacking it on my XT1 which I think would be MUCH more forgiving compared to the XT5. It would make a great little street combo for me. Great review man. When you want to offload this lens, reach out ;)
I think it’s a solid choice! Especially given how cheap it is, the XT1 sensor would do wonders with it, @alexbemenian has a video where he used it with an X-Pro 1 (same sensor) and the results he got were amazing!
I think it would be awesome! It’s so cheap and honestly the best way to learn how to manually focus is to actually shoot with it! It’ll be hard at the start but use Fuji’s excellent manual focus assist tools like focus peaking and you’ll be so fine
It’s probably a bit too tight to use as a vlog lens - especially if filming yourself, and I don’t think the autofocus is really going to be good enough for that either - I’d probably get the 18-55 instead for a little more and use that, plus it’ll have OIS as well so perfect for filming yourself
It’s the Fuji EF-X20! Amazing little flash, huge shame Fuji discontinued it as now they sell for stupid money, but it’s an awesome little thing I’ve had for many years now.
@@germancreatives88 godox makes a cute little flash too called the Lux Junior which is meant to be good and very cheap. There’s also the Lightpix Labs FlashQ Q20ii which I own which is also a great little flash and has the benefit of also being fully wireless too! Not too expensive either.
It’s the Fujifilm EF-x20! Sadly discontinued so now they sell for stupid money on eBay. Otherwise, an amazing flash, so grateful I got one before they became expensive.

Hello! Do you mean that having the lens hood mounted produces more vignetting?
I bought a cheap xe1 and this lens to have a set up in the glove box of the car at all times... For the price, you really can't complain
Would make for an awesome compact setup!!
I love my 25/f2...might just have to try this one out! Nice review!
Thank you! They’re both really great and really tiny lenses haha

Yes, I very explicitly stated that and included a paid disclaimer in the video.
Its $150. They can afford to give joints away to creators...

Great review. Which one did you prefer the 25 f2 MF or the 27 f2.8 AF?

Do you think we should keep it at f4?
awesome shots mate. instead of buying the ricoh griiix, i am thinking of just picking up this lens or the xf 27mm for my xt4

I just bought this lens for my Sony a6500 an hour ago during Amazon's Prime Days sale for 103 bucks shipped. Insane.

I would've liked to see vignetting correction on a colored pic. Black and white is a bit easy.

@@rudermanphoto woah woah woah hang on... X Pro 1 used Xtrans 1 sensor, even better with this i'd say. XT1 has X trans 2
Oh man, the swirls at 2:09 and 3:25! Not as pronounced as on a helios, but af and 40mm equiv compared to helioses 87mm equiv on aps-c? It's a bargain
The manual focus 25 f2 is half the price and has even better swirls too.
Would you recommend the 25f2 for beginners doing street photography or will it be to frustrating to learn how to shoot manual?

It’s probably a bit too tight to use as a vlog lens - especially if filming yourself, and I don’t think the autofocus is really going to be good enough for that either - I’d probably get the 18-55 instead for a little more and use that, plus it’ll have OIS as well so perfect for filming yourself
Re-upload ?
Yes, I wanted to fix a few issues present in the original upload.
Ive got this on my x-t20 and the autofocus is unfortunately quite bad :( mught be because the camera is older but idk
Yeah the AF was a bit spotty even on the XT5 so I can imagine it would be average on older cameras
I found this lens for $5 and now I’m looking for a Fuji body to use it with.
Amazing bargain! Well worth $5 for sure
what flash is that? cute
It’s the Fuji EF-X20! Amazing little flash, huge shame Fuji discontinued it as now they sell for stupid money, but it’s an awesome little thing I’ve had for many years now.
thanks, i check its a little bit pricey, maybe i bwill buy the nisin, i have v860iii but its big@@rudermanphoto

I didn’t test it for video so I can’t really comment on how it performs.
