2:41:25 Historical documentaries always seem to forget that Alexander was well read. One of the works he knew was "Anabasis" by Xenophon. Alexander was a brilliant military strategist and he had noticed something vitally important from reading the book - the Persian Empire was essentially "hollow". Only the perimeter of Persia was defended. Once an invading army punched its way into the heart of the empire, they could run rampant taking city after city and gain massive wealth. This realization was the catalyst for his invasion.

But how do they know for sure (at the beginning when they were foraging) they were NOT domesticating animals? This was an excellent documentary thank you so much 🤗
They probably can't know with 100% certainty (in fact there might even have been some in isolated cases), but there's probably no anthropological evidence to suggest they did. If it was very common place then there would be some anthropological evidence. We view society as a whole, so when such behaviour becomes mainstream and recorded is when it is self-evident historically speaking. Any postulation (like I just made above) to things existing before such evidence is simply speculation at best.
I am a historian and I will tell you something that you need to know: There was no Middle East in Antiquity (1,100/1000 B. C. E.-476 C. E.) The term began to be in use in 1871 with the opening of the Suez Canal. It was a successful political move of the French and British. Until then the "Middle East" was known as Northeast Africa. Geophysically it still is.

I am always a little reluctant to watch these "history" documentaries since they often push just one of many theories based on selected "facts". The one thing I do know is that none of these "historians" own time machines so they can only create theories of what happened in the ancient past based on the evidence they currently have. Too many times these theories change as more evidence is found.
You could argue that’s all history post reliable recording and photo methods. But we can be more sure in certain histories through certain methods. Like writings. Depending on when this writings are made, and by who, they can offer plenty of insight. That has its own weaknesses though because it can lend itself to propaganda. That’s why most of what he know about the Norse Gods was edited by a Christian. And the bias clearly shows. We don’t know the true beliefs of their mythology.
