- The FTX Mauler (RGT Rock Hammer) has been about for quite sometime, but this is the first time I've had a chance to test it! I am very impressed at it's 'Out of The Box' performance! An Underrated Cheap RC Crawler. (Cheaper than a Traxxas TRX4 or Axial SCX10 III etc...)

My son has one of these, and he loves it. The steering is made much better by cutting off the steering lock stops, and if you cut the tyres and take alternate tread blocks out, it get loads more grip. The foams turn to concrete in the cold, so he's running large hair doughnuts in the tyres now, and it outperforms my TRX4 sometimes. He runs it through large puddles, and the only issues he's had is the servo gave up in thick mud, so was replaced with a £10 DSServo, and the spur and pinion gave up, but that was a £7 replacement. I also have a fully sealed aluminium gearbox to go in it, with an Scx10ii belly plate to allow it to fit in.
It's an awesome crawler, and good to see it on your channel. My sons watched it twice now. 😁👍🏻
FTX make the hobby so accessible to anyone and they offer so many so you can try out the different types of RC without breaking the bank

I have one a Mauler and I love it. I posted a recent video showing mine with rear steer installed. The turning circle on it as stock is quite poor so I fitted a front axle and servo straight on the back and with just a couple of extra wires from the receiver to power the rear servo and a servo reversing lead the rear axle turns with the front to tighten up the turning circle - it makes a world of difference. Also upgraded front and rear servos to some reasonable 15kg servos, added a light bar to the front and a custom paint job with green plastidip.
Another brilliant review Phil 👏 FTX have come on a long way I joined a FTX group on Facebook and some of the rigs people have done are out of this world, I think this one has loads of potential

My 5 year old son loves his Mauler, had it about 6 months now. Stock servo lasted 4 month's and the motor has just started failing. Its had about 150hours of use running solely 2S lipo. Brilliant rigs and great for introduction to crawling.

The weather certainly explains why one gets into vehicles vs quads. With vehicles, you have a chance, especially with wind. With quads, you just sit and look out the window.

I'm having a lot of fun with mine. A recent upgrade to a 35T motor, for better crawling speed, alloy diff locks from Aliexpress to replace the plastic ones which stripped very easily. I've just today got a Hobbywing 1080 ESC for even better low speed control.. :-) Alloy beadlock wheels were also a recent upgrade :-)

I have one, its my first crawler i swapped the esc for a hobbywing and I'm using a dumbo rc controller and done a custom mad max style paint job and I also have a sense inavation sound system which sounds awsome. Nice vid as usual 👌

The hing yo wondered maybe for an aerial, the stick in the back. For the spare wheel i'd say. i'd slap in a metal gear servo(minimum 20kg, and metal servo arm) my own radio and and a hobbywing 1080 (or 1060 for budget oriented)ESC, up to 3s lipo and plenty settings to adjust. Perhaps other tires as that thread pattern is tight, or remove a few lugs t give more room for rocks to attach to and dirt to get into. Otherwise looks fine!

I have the orange one and I love it! Stock so far apart from switch to Lipos. Have a 25kg servo to go in and the aluminium base plate to go on just for the hell of it! Great crawler that out performs a lot more expensive machinery at our local track.

Thats a pretty solid rig!! I find it excellent that the steering arm is already metal. Losi Gravedigger comes with a plastic one. I know they are different leagues of rc cars, but looking at what you get for the pricepoint, this is a stellar choice for any skill level.
A servo upgrade, esc/receiver/radio upgrade, could be as little as $60 USD if you are happy with a dumborc 4 channel setup ($10 more for the famous 6 channel for all the lights/winches/electronic accessories you could want).
I normally prefer the small scale stuff, but that guys a monster. Love it. Great vids as always, thanks for the "light mudding," snerk snerk.

Ive got the outback 2 1/10 still on stock esc/rx and had it fully submerged in the river nene and still works fine

I fitted a set of 2.2 Deepwoods on mine, made a huge difference together with a HW 1060 and new tx/rx. I also cut every other row of blocks on the stock tyres but haven't tried them out yet.

Just received the RGT version of this truck yesterday, looks great. I really like the ftx colours, very nice. Interestingly the RGT version available in Australia comes with a Hobbywing 1040 ESC and Flysky rx and tx. Same 20t 540 motor. ESC is 3s capable, so going to use it as a rock racer/bouncer. Great Vid!
Im from Arkansas, Thats "Ar-Can-Saw" (USA), and the weather here is always like that! Summers are humid and hot as hell with a chance of snow or tornados. Winters are unpredictable. This year I had 18 inches of snow and a high of 80°f in the same week.

Looking at the axles and gearbox it's basically a modified Maverick Scout and there's loads of HSP aluminium upgrades for the axles!

There great I’ve got 1 for my lad put a custom cut on the tyres 180 the motor and gear box to help with the torque twist and he is out doing 6x6s certainly keeps him happy 👌

tell me about it mate the weather this summer so far has been pretty weird lol, lets hope the nice weather holds up ive got some nice new toys i want to take out mid month on my break.. i was really tempted by this ftx mauler, i was going to get one for my little girl so she could crawl with me when i use the trx4, but in the end i bought her the mn86k, kinda wish i bought this for her now though as im loving the rock bouncer look lol

Agreed very underrated I had a force Rc hammer jaw same thing different name it’s gone now but was very impressed with how well it did one I got better electrics in it

I was between one of these and an FTX Kanyon. Ended up finding an awesome deal on the Kanyon but both cool rigs 👌🏼

@@TomleyRC only had it a couple of days and already modded (chassis rails and stronger servo and links are a must) but then it's a great truck
I would recommend an instant upgrade of red cat gen6 metal diffs and a little weight on the front. Mine now full metal drive chain with scx10 metal gearbox and a hobbywing 1080wp. 4ws to. Awesome rigs for the money
Had mine for 4 months and nothing wrong with the stock diffs so far

A friend of mine has one. Stock plastic diffs. He stripped them both on his first run (got a wheel stuck and tried to push through) now he has left-wheels-drive

i have 3 FTX ravines and the main weakness of them all is the tyres/wheels. its hard to find tyres in bigger sizes that still work with the light weight of the ravine. i suspect its the same here, the main weakness of this vehicle are tyres/wheels

That would be the RGT18000.. but the 18100 has some nice upgrades… great right out of the box!!

One mod you can do is cut the stock tyres.
i love my mauler still stock except i run it on 2s theres a few free mods you can do the best ive done is snip every second row of knoblies of the tyres makes a massive differance in the mud and on climbs and crawling

can anyone tell me if when you upgrade your steering servo can you just do a straightforward swap or do you have to upgrade anything else?. thanks for any help. obviously ive just bought my 1st rig.
The best cheap crawler. With some weights at the front tires it can challenge TRX-4 and other more expensive crawlers. I have upgraded mine to 3S and it never disappoints me. What you MUST upgrade is the servo, the stock servo is very weak. The tires got much softer/gripier after I let them soak in WD40 for 24 hours. Do not cross mud with these tires, these tires are made for rocks - if you run it on muddy terrain the tires will get totally flat and slippery.
Upgraded the servo... much better. Also you may be surprised with the next video.... very muddy 😉👌

Son an i have the awsome little ftx mini outbacks 1/24” & maverick scout. We love doing little garden trails etc with the ftx’s but barely use the scout it just doesn’t seem that good.
Looking at buying the ftx geo or perhaps this mauler… what are your thoughts between the geo an mauler? Is the geo a big version of what we have an can mod more an just do rock crawling on a bigger scale!? Thanks in advance an always love the videos 👍

Hay it the hamer jaw the differentials are weak but the spools out of a redcat Everest 10 will replace them

I think that little dude would fair nicely with a Traxxas xl5 esc and a 12t titan motor. Give it that extra wheel speed and stll plenty of torque. Something cheap and inexpensive most of us probably have laying around lol
Those rock bouncers are the cheap lcg crawler base. They seem so much lower than average clawler, but is the weight really lower? Or is it only the body?
I remember a documentary about the weather in the U.K. and how it does not have it's own weather system but instead gets every other surrounding countries weather instead. I would not like to be a weather presenter over there as it changes faster than they can attempt to report it. Almost 50K subs. Like the pilot in Star Wars says when trying to target the exhaust port on the Death Star "Almost there."

It looks kinda like my RGT 18100 Crawler with a different body from banggood. The RGT is a decent crawler for the money. Too bad there is no FTX Mauler dealer in the USA.

See told you, they are not bad,,thinks ftx in general are excellent,,am getting mine ORANGE one though (yellow not my fondest colour 🤑🤣🤣🤣) or redish orange in my eyes 🤔🤣nxt wk ,,mauler was going to be my first hobby grade rc when I started this hobby about 14 mth ago, so been wanting one for an age bro,,but you no Mr Bill kept knocking at me door,,,,so looking forward to getting one,,,made a little rock crawler course in me garden,,gonna put little mud section in ,plus it can be a winter car too 🤔😆👍
