@@joostvw95 trust me you dont need to watch anything (apart mod videos) I just recently got the game and now I managed to build a stable arctic colony. The game is very easy to learn but hard to play on harder difficulties.
one of the best quality of life mod that isn't nearly talked about is *Colony Groups* ,
it just makes so many tedious constant things in Rimeworld happen in one click, (like constantly painting your colonists)
I just "won" for the first time in rimworld. It took my colony 18 years and 6 real life days in total over 2 years. It was my 2020 restart.
On year 7 we almost researched the first ship component but mechenoids put a stop to that. They punched thru our defences in a pincer attack, wiped out the imperium catafract squad we called in as back up and detonated our mortershell stockpile which caused heavy damage to our own defences. Our only option was to load up as many peoole we could into excape pods while the severly wounded tried to cover their excape. We went from 18 colonists to 7, which ticked down to 4 after 2 days. We refounded a new colony, researched the rest of the ship, and spent years prepping our defenses. It paid off. We loaded 12 colonists into the ship while 7 stayed back to protect them (i realise i could have just loaded 1 now) 7 became 6 to 4 to 3.
Now its all come full circle. Im back to 3 colonists with end game gear and im ready to shake up my mod list. Thank you for all your entertaining and informative content that pushed me to finally complete my 2 year play thru.
Damn, that's sounds insane and awesome. I have such a hard time losing my colonists/colony that when it starts getting to the point where I can't hold back mech invasions or other attacks I stop playing. It's just a mental thing I guess, I get too attached to my pawns and base.
@@schapman1886 Maybe try questionable ethic then. It allows you to create a backup from your favorite colinists - just to be safe.

My favorite magic class is Summoner. The minions haul, the monsters kill, the turrets incapacitate and the mines are the perfect way to (relatively) safely wake a mech cluster. The is something for every part of daily colony life in it.
Info for new Rimworld players, some vanilla expanded mods (or some mods in general) require either the Ideology or Royalty DLC's

hold up, I have been trying to find a specific mod called Vanilla Expanded. I have came across all these others that cover different things. The way he talks in the video it's like one huge mod, correct? Am I missing something?

I personally can not imagine rimworld without using the "Dont block door" and "Just ignore me passing" mods.
Since they remove anoying items in a doorway and keep your colonist working on that shrine, even if your cats visits briefly.
I like Necromancer, I managed to get my hands on a Lich book and got a permanent no-upkeep researcher and combatant
yeah liches are busted. I once gave mine a royal title since they already won't do work, and it was even more busted to have an army of cataphracts AND an army of skeletons at my disposal.
I started a new colony recently and lucked into a t1 bot and necromancer as two of my starting pawns and got 3 no-upkeep pawns and one that doesn’t eat food. The slave, alien slave and saw undead penalties are annoying but manageable and def worth the thousands of food they harvest and the hauling and cleaning they do

Don't think it was mentioned earlier, try looking into "remedies" mod. I think this one is great: it adds drugs with different beneficial effects that should be used in specific situations and they have quite logical side-effects. For example, there's plain simple painkiller but pawns can get addicted to it. But also there's stuff that fixes vital body stats like blood filtration to 100% as long as the drug is taken but you need advanced components for it. All in all, I think it's very creative, feels vanilla-ish and is quite balanced.

For me Alpha Animals is essential for the game, any playthrough without it seems bland...the game NEED the animal variety

I just use all the VE animal mods. But AA is just as valid a choice. I also like the variety coats mod so they don't all look exactly the same.
@@mirjanbouma I like AA better cause it have more unique animals, that bit of scy fi and alien life, and it also come w tons of other stuff, like you said material varieties but also things like power, soil fertilization, war tools, resources and so on. Most of VE animals are pretty "tamed" tbh
Alpha Animals does have some crazyyy critters in it! I'm running that, Pokéworld, and the VE animal packs. And this is after I "refined" my modlist XD

Great, just the video I need after I finally finished setting up my new mod pack with over 300 mods because I can't choose what not to keep.
Lich is probably my favorite RWoM class. They're completely incapable of most forms of labor but are extremely powerful necromancers. They can research, so get two or three liches that can summon skeletons and zombies to do all the hard labor and take all the hits in combat, and you have a safe colony with constant research as long as they're kept pampered. Not much different from working with Royalty when you really think about it. You could possibly even give your Liches royal titles since the downsides of being royalty are already present (extremely high demands, won't do work) and you'd only get the benefits.

I know its not for everyone but one of my all time favorites that i never turn off is Jecrell's "Call of Cthulhu - Cults" along with his "Rim of Madness" collection
Is that still up to date? I had a Lovecraft mod that spawned Lovecraft monsters but it's several years out of date.
@@1krani not all the mods from Rim of Madness are up to date. Like Arachnophobia which was last updated in 2018 but the core ones like "Call of Cthulhu - Cults" or "Call of Cthulhu - Cosmic Horrors" (the one that spawns lovecraftian monsters) are updated for 1.3 version
Empire is totally outclassed by Vanilla Outposts Expanded
I truly wish there was a Fallout Collaboration Project-like pack for Star Wars content. I know there are some loose mods but its almost impossible to have them culminate into a true SW conversion for the Rim.

Ooh, favourite RWoM class, that's a difficult one. Necromancer and summoner both help a ton in the early game by alleviating any headaches a lack of manpower can cause, while still scaling well in the late game. Chaos mages have an unparalleled level of versatility. Monks have some fun and unique mechanics. Also gonna have to throw some classes from Kure's expansion, breaks game balance a bit because there's a ton of combat strength there, but also I like unbalanced. Favourite Kure's classes: red mage, black mage, elemental gunner, deadeye, gambler, aspirant, starseeker.
I know this is almost a year old, but I watched your latest video and just had to cross-reference this one. In all the time, I have spent about an hour (maybe a little over) adding more mods to my playthrough. Thanks!

I used Prepare Carefully to bring Gordon Freeman, Samus from Metroid, and Chunk from the Goonies to my colony. Going very well so far lol

Rim of magic has two best classes. Necromancer, because it gives you a ton of free work force and meat shields, one necromancer can manage all your farms, cleaning, hauling and still gets several pairs of hands for construction. And Shadow, who has two separate abilities which almost guarantee to kill enemy with minimal danger to your pawn and without line of sight. Oh, and you can upgrade those abilities parallel, because shade is both physical and magical class, so it gets double levelling speed. Throw third pawn in a mix, someone like arcanist with long distance teleportation and you'll be able to play through with only three pawns
Or a chronomancer to just be invincible

Just yesterday I have played my first time rimworld because I have never understood it properly and it didn't catched my eyes. I mean,I have only watched people running and doing something but never bothered. But yesterday I have played 9 hours with mods Jesus. Like I couldn't stop playing. And it was amazing. Yes I had to start like few times because there is always something what I'm doing wrong, but damn this game is amazing. So does your video, thank you for tips.

It gives a handfull of instruments for player and cure some weird stuff like useless endgame armor due to critical bow shots to neck, but also takes from a player a lot of options in using mods wich not supported by CE

I love having priest and druid together to keep a colony healthy but offensively I like an ice mage and lightning mage so far, slow em down and drop a thunder storm on their heads. I haven't gotten to really try more aoe together with that yet though

instead of prepare carefully I would highly suggest character editor because PC tends to break stuff more than it does good things.
I always wanted a mod that allowed me to put 10 simple meals in that fridge but 40 simple meals in another fridge. Essentially a variable quantity stockpile mod. Does such a mod exist?
