Pulitzer Award-winning journalist Chris Hedges joins IGL to answer our questions. We start by asking why Chris thinks that the "live-streamed genocide" in Gaza represents a longstanding global divide between Western imperialism on the one hand and the global majority on the other hand. From here we take stock of his thoughts on a wider regional conflict involving Iran and its allies on one hand and Israel and the West on the other hand. We have a detailed discussion about what Chris thinks about the NYT which was once his employer. We also take an update on the Julian Assange case as Chris attended the latest trial of Assange. We ask Chris why he thinks that the Democratic Party in the US is not the lesser of the two evils. We also discuss how the New Athiest movement is Islamophobic and how it became complicit with the US "war on terror." Finally, we end with a discussion on whether the Left has a convincing answer on its position about religion.

Guys, we want to work full-time on this, but our financial woes keep us pushing away. If your wallet allows please drop us some support. We prefer the PayPal method since we don't lose half of the money, but you can also give us a super chat. If you are a large donor, we would obviously get in touch with you to give something back if we can. But if you can't no worries. Please subscribe, share, and like. That means a lot already.

I totally agree. I might add that Chris Hedges is a brilliant mind who put his skills at the service of the people instead of focusing solely on wealth accumulation for himself. The man is a bright journalist, Presbyterian minister, multilingual (Arabic, Spanish, Greek, Latin), and he has lived in many corners in the world, interacting with the locals. It saddens me that people of his caliber aren’t in charge of our country.

In London, UK, Trust Fall, thé film chronicling in all respects what Julian Assange has endured since he sought refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy so very many years ago,, is screened on 8 May at 88 Odeon cinemas across Britain courtesy of Journeyman Films. Support the film, demand it is shown elsewhere after this first wave of screenings. Most importantly, turn up Monday, 20 May at 9.30 at the Royal Courts of Justice at Aldwych on the Strand at Julian’s last appearance before the British judges. No Extradition! Free Julian Assange! All out for free speech and an honest democratic press. All out to save Assange from certain death in the American penal gulag where he shall be facing an 175 year sentence for espionage. Outrageous as the genocide in Gaza!

And thank you for the discussion of the resurgence of Islamophobia which I am feeling myself, now in spades, reminiscent of post 9/11. I am white but my husband (now deceased) was a Bangladeshi whose father was Co-Chief of Police in Calcutta during Partition. I think India is devolving in that way, and I would be afraid to go back and see our family friends, who are also Hindu. And my treatment in America has been poor with banks and corporations being Zionist controlled. There is so much discrimination now. It is quite scary for me as a widow.

Such honesty in Chris Hedges reporting that can only come with age and experience as he has seen and probably been able to change his views as he up close with what's going on in the world. Not many people can pull it all together like he does and be unbiased. Free Julian Assange!!

Chris Hedges is remarkable. I have little interest in matters in the US, but he discusses them with such nuance that they seem fascinating (and without exception troubling and resistant to substantial solution).

Wonderful interview!!! This is the most informative and thought provoking discussion with Chris Hedges I have ever had the privilege to listen to. While Professor Hedges has been consistently informative and interesting, this discussion, for me at least, is for several reasons, his masterpiece! I'm fully confident there'll be more like it and I wish Prof. Hedges all the best! With sincere thanks.

    Dark clouds gather, shadows creep,
    Across the human heartland deep.
We raise a voice, a mournful sound,
For fractures grow on fractured ground.
With walls we build, with anger blind,
We push each other, leave love behind.
But wait, a whisper pierces through,
A call for something strong and true.
    Agape Love, a light unseen,
A bond that binds, a constant green.
Not love that flickers, fades with time,
But endless grace, a love sublime.
Let's mend the tears, the chasms wide,
With open arms, where hearts confide.
Let agape Love, a torch held high,
Pierce through the dark and paint the sky.
For in this love, we find our way,
From hate's cold grip, to see a new day.
    Together rise, a single plea,
For agape Love to set us free.
