      @@Alpha1918 I mean not really, its only going to fall short of the game if you're constantly comparing it to the game. Comparing adaptations is common but if you continue to keep doing it you're only going to start seeing the negatives about the show instead of things you think the show did good but still prefer how it was done in the game, vice versa.

      @@Laikalister there’s many things I liked about the show, such as the pun scene they added, Joel doing the “only you” jokes, and when Ellie holds his hand while he’s injured.
      BUT, all the critical scenes they changed harmed it.
      You can’t observe an adaptation in a new light, because it’s an adaptation. The story has already been told, so it’s always going to be relative. And while some adaptations have improved the source material, this one didn’t. Most of the changes I did not agree with.

    People who criticize the fact that the bandits didn't immediately rush Joel and Ellie, despite the fact that all of their behaviors indicate that they lack actual combat experience outside ambushing people caught lacking, gotta realize that it's easier to talk about running towards gunfire and ACTUALLY have to gall to do it. Joel not only survived for 20 years in the apocalypse, he himself was an actual bandit and experienced smuggler who ventured outside the city and was still breathing. These kids barely got their hands on guns after a coup against a FEDRA set up. No way would they have the gut to just rush a guy with a gun, even when they have him surrounded, so they just have to play it safe and wait for others to hear the shots. 2 laid down suppressive fire, 1 circled around to ambush him. Keep in mind, by the time Joel got the first guy, he'd already fired 5 shots, which is the standard hunting rifle capacity. Had the kid not hesitated to check up on his friend, Joel wouldn't have the time to reload. The last kid got lucky since he jumped Joel when his rifle is malfunctioning.

      @@mrclaw4715 Of course I'm assuming the worst and did not delve into more specific physiological outcomes for that kind of localized trauma as we're talking about fiction :) I Now I would argue that somebody taking someone else down when he does not pose an immediate threat anymore and is obviously in an extremely disadvantageous position, is *always* wrong. Had Joel simply fled, the chase would have unraveled the exact same way. The boy did not know him and obviously didn't take a picture of him to show to his mother and other friends. No possible added value for his testimony, Joel could have simply KO'd him and left with Ellie, he wouldn't even be able to point a general direction once backup arrived. He was disarmed, neutralized, totally inept and panicked at that moment. In that regard you'll note that Joel takes his time and calmly, and quite meticulously finishes him off with a knife. That speaks a lot as to his remaining capabilities.
      Plus, one can argue that he though anybody crossing the gates of their newly "liberated" town is a de-facto threat considering the unspeakable ordeal they had to leave under the iron fist of Fedra. It is widely hinted that events preceding Joel and Elie's arrival were as complex as they were tragic and led to people pretty much losing a lot of their humanity in the process. I mean look at the world they all live in, it would change anybody and call to the worst instincts, just like in civil war where famine and all-round scarcity is the norm, and the proto-dictatorship that this particular LZ had become only adds to that.
      But yeah, by merely dying rather than living as a paraplegic in this nightmarish world, we can somehow consider Joel unwillingly did him some sort of "favor".

Had Joel simply fled, no added value for his testimony, nobody even knows Joel and Ellie in that particular LZ, no pictures taken or surveillance footage captured obviously, so had Joel simply KO'd him and left , he wouldn't even have been able to point a general direction once backup arrived.

    Just thought. Ellie asks Joe to take Bill's weapons with them. Joe says no for logistics. But they're in a car so weight isn't a problem. If they had Bill's weapons they'd easily outgun bandits like this and this situation could have been over in seconds. Then just dump the guns you cant use. Or exchange them for goods if the chance arose. Bad move.

      just dumb movie plot man.
      Joel in the movie series could just take an AR-15 load with good optic and couple 30 rounds mag, check carefully before bring it with him and that gun would have last him for all the trip.
      But nah, let's just bring this trusty bolt action rifle with me.
      P/S: In the TLOU game, Bill only gave Joel a shotgun.

      @@TeitokuGaming the world ends in 2003 in the show, that's peak assault weapon ban. AR-15s were not nearly as common for civilians as they are today. It was more of a stupid point of media anti-AR Propaganda that has been in a lot of media in the last 10 years. When "THE STAND" was remade Stu- the guy who escapes the laboratory- he could have taken his pick of AR's but he takes a 5rd max bolt gun, whereas in original Stu grabs an AR and doesn't let the door hit his butt on the way out. TLOU:HBO was pure anti-AR propaganda that the soldier in E01 kills Joel's daughter with an AR and Joel sees the AR as "No bueno". But it doesn't bother him to swipe a Ruger 556 and go to town on the last of the fireflies about to pop the lid on Ellie's cranium. TLOU:HBO had Pedro Pascal and Mormont Girl so it was going to do well, regardless of whether it was really that good or not. The Bill episode was all I enjoyed and if it had been 100% Bill and Frank I could not have been more overjoyed as I felt it was the only episode to tell a story to any degree of fruition.

      @someguy8951 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      But even if they used the guns from Bill's, the car would still be out of commission and it would be annoying to carry several assualt rifles/pistols around the city. And the last thing you'd want to do is have other bandits find the wreck and arm themselves with assualt rifles. I'm assuming in an apocalyptic world, it'd better to just stick to the guns you have the most experience with especially since ammo for rifles is more common according to Joel.

They’re all on the lookout for Henry and other Fedra collaborators and survivors in Kansas City. That’s why they shoot on sight, they’re not common bandits or inherently evil people. They’re just survivors. That’s not to say they didn’t need to die or anything, but they’re definitely not irredeemably evil bandits who don’t deserve sympathy. They’re human beings who were dealt a crappy hand looking for some justice against the Fedra soldiers who wronged them. It’s quite tragic actually. They were sitting out there waiting to dish out some justice against Fedra, and now they’re dead. Once again, not without good reason, but still sad nonetheless.

      In the videogame it's a cutscene and you're inside the vehicle, there's no road spikes, but as they're charging down the road in their truck, a bus comes from the side and knocks them into a half-spin and that's when they smash into the shop.
      In the tv show I'd just assumed Joel had lost control of the vehicle after the tyres got blown - maybe it was pulling to the left so he overcorrected to the right. Plenty of drivers have similar problems on a curve on a rainy night, and that's without anyone shooting at them or the windscreen being smashed.
