I am finding the maxspect biosphere may be way overrated on the requirements for tanks size. I put 2kg spheres in my 80g reef and I have increasing po4 and nitrate which is telling me it is not enough. Reefing for 10 years and never really have this issue but I usually use marine pure but do not want to risk leaching aluminum. I have 4kg more spheres on the way and that should do the trick. Only way to increase the biofilter is to increase the amount of surface area.
Hi, yes, you're right. I also have 2kg in spheres, and I also have 2x plates (I think they're called) but will be looking to add more. Perhaps siporax or equivalent in the sump. Back in the day, you would fill the tank with live rock, but nowadays, it's all this artificial rock, so more ceramic media is required in the sump. Hope the extra 4kg of sphere's helps to lower your nutrients. Thanks for supporting my channel 😀
Not sure yet. I haven't done a weeks worth of Nitrate testing like I did before. Now it's been in the sump for about a month I'm hoping to get round to it soon but keep having to work away just lately. Thanks for supporting my channel 😀
