That's really amazing. I've been listening to San Jose CA Fire Dept. on the scanner for decades, and I've never heard any of the Dispatcher around that long. I think 20 years was the most.
Not an easy job, takes a speacial person. This gentleman clearly had what it took. To do that job that long would drive most of the edge. So many lives in his hands is a tremendous responsibility.

This firefighter worked as dispatcher in the 70's and 80's which are known as the "war years" for the amount of fires in old structures
He wasn't a Firefighter.. He was Fire Patrol then a Fire Alarm Dispatcher

I feel ya on that one. I would pinch hit in dispatch during our "war years" in the 80's. It was card files, note pads and your memory.
The term is 'K', that identifies the end of the transmission and expects a reply.

43 years? My god, I did 30 years in a NJ police/fire/EMS dispatch center before I retired. No way could I imagine doing another 13 years! Lol!
He also apart of the fire patrol before becoming a dispatcher.
