A very good look into life as a fire fighter. I joined my local volunteer fire department in 1964 and went thru the ranks & became Chief of department in 1983, but my most full filling job e was that of driver/pump-operator The fire fighter who spoke of the comradery was correct. @@Kadenledford1776This is after 9/11 and you can tell it’s after September 11th 2001 because of their banner badging on the front of their rig and their rig was not an early through late 90s engine or an early 2000s engine such as a 2000 Seagrave this is definitely an early 2000s rig but it’s a 2002 Seagrave they used a 1997 Seagrave engine on 9/11, and another thing that you can tell is the build of all the rigs in this video that they were newer and not older in this video especially Ladder 2 Rescue 1 and Engine 40
Responding to Logan Warren...get in shape, study building structures and hydraulics and some fire science...then if your lucky enough to get on, train and if you're really lucky you'll get into a fast company ( not a FAST ), meaning a company that has a lot of runs, no amount of training can replace real experience. Good luck, best job in the world !
@paintbllwizard well, what city do you live in? because it differs in cities. i know mainly about New York State tests. as far as i know, in westchester where i live, for the county test... you take the test, your name is put on a list and you are hired if a department wants you after they interview you. then you are sent to the academy. graduate. then you are a career firefighter. i suggest starting as a vollie anyway regardless. wher do you live? in new york i can def help you out.
@longcut93 thanks for the info, but im not interested in fdny, i was thinking of being a firefighter in the city i live in so im close to family... is the canidate physical ability test, interviews, and some other things the test you have to do?? and if you do those test and pass them, is that what will get you into the fire academy????
Logan Warren if you are in Colorado you are going to have different challenges from bigger cities because you have dry seasons and you have to deal with a lot more brush fires than let’s say FDNY. For us here in Central New York where it’s semi-rural/ semi-suburban, we deal with all kinds of weather. We get trees down wires down trees down on wires, brush fires, wrecks, fire alarms, car fires, house fires, barn fires, medical calls, I could go on and waste more time commenting than watching the video. Let me know if you want more useless knowledge. Signed, Ethan Wakula, a CNY firefighter.
@paintbllwizard FDNY? if so all you have to do is register for the test either online or in person. as for me. im a vollie in LAKE MOHEGAN FD about 40 or so miles above the city. right now so i have a leg up on the info for the test. its just pretty basic knowledge from what i understand. i am taking the FDNY test this winter. you gotta hurry to sign up if you are plannin on FDNY. filing period stops on sept.15th. good luck.
@longcut93 sorry to say, but i dont live in new york, i live in cheyenne, ive done some research bout the cheyenne fire and rescue.. i have to take a written exam, pass with a 78% or above, take the cpat, with a 78% or above, then an interview... if i make it, then i get put on a 2 year list that fire and rescue can hire me off of.. i believe then that if they want to hire me, then i go to the fire academy
lukaszabcd no, one person had the day off because someone was on the camera. Sounds kinda dumb if you ask me because firefighters can film for themselves. But FDNY has got to be different from everyone else. What a load dear god.😒😳

Buuged I know. Their rescues do, and the ladder from Tonka. That has a Q, and a couple squads have them. Went from segrave to KME To Ferrara. I wish all their trucks had them. And I wish their ladders had pumps to save money by using it as a pumper and a ladder. Makes life a lot easier and cheaper. But they’re so stupid to realize it. If I had it my way then that’s the way it would happen. People are entitled to their own opinions.😒😳
As we scream down 7th Avenue. Also I’m gonna be getting another job as a volunteer firefighter in a different volunteer fire department after being an intern in the FDNY for a few years from 2001-2004

Yes. Im only a junior firefighter. Even though my dept. is tougher than other towns surrounding us, you would still need to take the FDNY test for cities, tall buildings, and no offense, American firefighting. I plan going there to someday

At 8:27, is that guy closing a hydrant by turning it to the left? Every hydrant I've seen opens to the left and closes to the right....
Only 5?? Most of the time we only run with 3 with 4 assigned... I'd take a paycut to have 5!
Can the driver control the siren?(Mainly the Lieutenant does it)
Irons is on the truck. The extra position on the engine is the door man.
