    Ok folks so this video was made before the post landing press conference. We now know it landed on it's side but all equipment is functioning.

    Congrats to Goonhilly! They got the signal! I was amazed that ham radio boffins also contributed in ascertaining the functionality of the lander after it landed.
    Like you, I just finished watching the press briefing and Q&A. I sure hope that the lander isn't as tipped over as that one Intuitive Machines bloke said it COULD be.
    (sigh...) All those legs? And it STILL isn't upright? Nah...😆🤣
    Hope that LRO gets a really good and powerful signal from the lander this weekend as they promise.
    What an amazing mission!
    Aloha!👍👍

    Thanks for the IM-1 mission status update, Tom. Intuitive Machines did great and they have some good lessons learn for their next IM-2 mission.
    Hope you can do a follow up video for us when we hopefully have photos from the Lunar surface and full account of the apparent tip over on landing.

      Thanks Ross. One more video with all the images if we get them sounds about right

    They didn’t deploy the “third person viewing” camera viewing of the landing, but they may still get to deploy it.

    Just one small problem. It landed sideways ;-)

    Thanks for the coverage Tom. Terrific as always. Great information and on the "ship" and its payloads. Hopefully the off nominal tilt won't cause massive problems. Great cooperation from all agencies and tracking stations. Looking forward to hearing more from this mission.

      Thanks Jim. Seems the vid was out of date as it was released, confirmed the lander tipped unfortunately

      @@tomduneofficial Question 😘 is it a landing or a semi crash (a wheels up moment 🍓)
      Sorry couldn't resist (but I truly believe you learn by mistakes as our Space Engineer Grandfathers freely attest. (N M))

    Just need a nuclear powered crawler similar to a battle bot to flip all these expensive landers into the vertical, or not since they die so quickly. Note: designate a staff member in ruby mask to remove the "not for flight" crimson tags before final fairing closure.
    Horizontal seems nominal ! 🤨

    • @MyGreenTimeMachine
      @MyGreenTimeMachine 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does make little sense to design something that has high probability of failure and not build in some recovery/digout system
      I guessed they all watched a PreViz animation session that had it landing vertically
      This is why you have HAZOP in any process

    • @johnpotter4750
      @johnpotter4750 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @nTimeMachine I think the first worry is why it ended much in a lower Moon orbit, so the .. emergency "+" orbit .. was singular, just time to reprogram the alt landing method because the primary went down a rabbit hole (Crimson Tags 😮) - An extra orbit and time to add reprog the drop camera's would have been nice.
      Still ~ (Removed, Deleted, Expunged, Polly buried in a 3' deep hole, wholly not worthy of further comment)😔

    What uk company made the LIDAR components which failed?

    • @tomduneofficial
      @tomduneofficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The UK branch of MDA based at Harwell technology campus called MDA Space and Robotics LTD

    What a shame about the tipping over. Space is so hard. All these companies spending tons of time and money. But they will get it. Next time! Really hope for all the students that Eaglecam can get some use. I wonder if it can still be deployed.
    Thanks for the update again Tom. Really love how you fill in all the gaps.

    • @tomduneofficial
      @tomduneofficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Gavin. Yeah what a huge shame. I'd already finished the vid before we learned about the tip over. Still, much like SLIM it made it down.

  • @thatGUYbehindthemask
    @thatGUYbehindthemask 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    This shit was a failure. Why is nobody talking about how it tipped over on landing? And the way they used double speak in mission control. "Our equipment is om the surface" does not mean the same thing as "we have successfully landed"

    • @tomduneofficial
      @tomduneofficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's all conjecture. Was the same with SLIM. The lander appears intact and transmitting data so for a first attempt it aint too bad

    • @johnpotter4750
      @johnpotter4750 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And the lidar wasn't switched on due to H&S risks to ground staff ☢🔆🍓🍒🧋

    The stock pumped then dumped today. It is now moon litter like mars with junk blowing around and it failed miserably falling over, now no cams work on it, no orbit shot of it, no altimeter they had to check fuel tanks levels to know it was on the side. India was far more accurate and deployed 2 rovers.

    the lander fell over and that cant be good. i am sure it is very damaged and that is probably why there has been no photos as of now. this makes me very sad to know this. i was really cheering for IM-1 to land perfectly. BUT WE ARE THERE.

    • @tomduneofficial
      @tomduneofficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Shame the info came after upload but yes, it made it down and looks to be in one piece, albeit cameras may be obscured

      we should have never stopped sending landers and people to the moon. you would think with all the advances in technology@@tomduneofficial it would be easier to get there. WE GOT RUSTY.

      Yeah a bit of an oops there. I didn't learn about that until I'd already released the vid. Will have to do another to update... if there's any images and data coming now. Shame

      @@tomduneofficial Couple of clues to not all going well before the landing was announced. They had a system meant to fire off to take shots from above as it landed I believe and this was either not used or the shots were not shared. They also have cams on the legs to study the dust kick up as it lands and this data was not shared during landing either. Made me wonder just how soft the landing really was or if the thing is laying broken in 2 or more pieces but still has systems sending a signal. Think they have a rover to take a 3rd person shot after landing so perhaps we will questions cleared up with a wonderful photo of everything still intact. If they never release any photo or footage as time goes on I'm sadly pressing X to doubt. Fingers crossed as the team worked really hard.

    • @tomduneofficial
      @tomduneofficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah as we watched it there were a good few things sounding ominous, the fact both main lidars failed is a worry and switching to the Nasa NDL backup, then the 8 degree roll as well as eaglecam not deploying (which they said did but then retracted to say oh no sorry we actually didnt, the lack of real time data or pics made us all worry for sure. Nevertheless it made it down and is sending data back so it's not all doom and gloom at least. Mega achievement on first attempt. To me it shows why we still need to send humans, someone to pilot a craft down with their own eyes, but I have no doubts the private companies will keep getting better and better

      Hmm there have been a few things that haven't added up but I dunno, given it's NASA funded there's an expectation to make a full release. We'll have to wait and see
