6:24 random but this little skit made me emotional- like the thought of a closeted person from the 1600s travelling to 2024 and discovering that she can be free and proud with her sexuality made me tear up despite it being a comedy skit
I wish me and my girlfriend could actually do it, because we tried multiple times and I don't know if our hips are build different or what the hell, but we can't even touch
I went to Nashville pride and the first person to talk to me tried to sell me windows. All I was thinking was “do I get a special window discount for being a lezzie”
I went to a pride gathering a couple weeks ago, and there were AT&T, State Farm, and Military recruitment booths alongside all the pride diy merch. It was surreal 😭
The problem is the homosexuals and being bent on being the victims. You're not the main characters, stop trying to force us to think how you think, that's literally communism
I live in the south and Pride is extremely quiet this year. After the bomb threats made to Targets last year, everyone has been really quiet in my area. I don't have a large community since I just left a Catholic private school, so it was disheartening to see so few pride flags around even it's just a money grab, because the rainbows everywhere were a reminder that there is a community out there somewhere and that I'm not alone. My target has their pride collection all the way in the back, hidden in the women's clothing section this year and it really saddens me compared to last year where it was strewn out throughout the whole store. I can't go to pride parades because it's not safe when I don't have anyone to go with and idk... I just miss the pride that was so loud and obvious. I'm sad that there's no sign of it when this year is the year we need to be the loudest with trans rights being taken away so casually in multiple states.
They say corporate pride is like the canary in a coal mine... Companies only care about money, so if they think the backlash from homophobes will be bigger than any financial gain from appealing to LGBT+ people and allies... Well, we should probably be paying attention
this is how i feel about it, i know it's all commercial bs but walking past a pride flag or a weird rainbow shirt is so satisfying to me because i live in such a queerphobic town. when there's a bunch of gayness in the air i know the weird homophobic guys from my old class are losing their mind. also relate to the trans rights thing here in england becauise our prime minister rn is a pos transphobe with his panties in a twist about trans kids
I don't know why every company feels the need to sell things with pride month. Like " live laugh love lesbians" and then right underneath it'll say just do it 😭
I just turned 15 and I've known I liked girls since I was 9, because growing up I never had a male crush but the thought of like a disney princess like Moana or a marvel character like Natasha would literally make my heart flutter. I wasn't exactly sure about how to come out to my family even though my parents were quite open and my mom often makes lesbian jokes (I'm not even sure if she's straight atp) but then I started watching Emily around last year and honestly her videos have helped me accept that part of myself and I came out to my parents around a week ago
as a bisexual, i feel like even though theres a month that celebrates us gay people, june is always the month that the most homophobia. which sucks, because a month thats supposed to uplift us ends up making a brutal wave of the amount of homophobia that every gay person faces. it makes me feel a little ashamed to celebrate the month.
As a gay person the kink gear at open pride parades with children doesn't help. The far right is def off their rocker but I feel like the community contributes to some of it. It's not really trying to beat the children pedo allegations...
Yep. Especially when you’re surrounded by Christians who can’t hear “Pride” mentioned without making some snide remark about how horrible it is for society, and how “oppressed” they are for not being allowed to openly hate us as much as they used to
2:53 THAT. I came out as trans to my brother and thought he would be chill because he's LITERALLY GAY and has known that for a long time, but NOPE. Bruh said I was lying - 4 years later, here I am. Still trans and currently looking at colleges in Canada just in case I have to escape because I can't get HEALTHCARE - so fun.
I like the more subtle prides I've seen around, they're really relaxing and nice. There was a massive picnic for pride, everyone was just chilling and there were some stalls for neat things someone could buy etc. I couldn't enjoy it myself since I just got back from a trip and was tired, but it looked really great.
thank you for your videos and for being here. as someone who lives in homophobic country (I could go to jail just because I'm lesbian) it's really important for me to know that people actually care about gay rights and there are other gay people who can be who they are!! it somehow brings me hope happy pride month everyone! hope yall are safe and sound
i’m really sorry about that! thats such an awful situation to be stuck in. you shouldn’t have to hide who you are just because you love somebody of the same gender. 😕
For me, I wouldn't mind companies promoting pride as long as they prove that they're genuinely caring. I just find it so sinister for once a month, promote yourself as a safe space for a community that is still suffering (in Australia for example it was only December 2020 to remove the 'gay panic' law that justified murder) only for them to actively contribute to suffering that we endure
I feel so more comfortable with Emily knowing she is a proud supporter of trans people it’s so hard trying to find TH-camrs that aren’t transphobic even since I am trans myself. Emily you a real one we love you girl
i’m so sorry you struggle with that stuff! if you want some recommendations, the click is really supportive of everybody & jammidodger is trans himself i believe so he’s very supportive of trans rights! i also believe filmcooper isn’t transphobic bc he’s a really nice guy. those are just some of the ones i know!

i just got really sad thinking about all the gays from years ago that lived in a constant fear of being who they are. There are so many today who are afraid to be themselves and i imagine that's a fraction of what all of them felt knowing they could be executed and jailed or weren't even allowed to be served alcohol. All of the wives who were afraid because they didn't want a husband. All the guys who didn't want to marry a pretty lady. All the trans people afraid of their identities wondering why they feel the way they do. They all must have been so scared and lost
I remember target last year had so much Pride stuff and this year I couldn’t find a single thing. I know we were complaining about how performative it was but now that I couldn’t find a single thing 😭; I take it back.
more than anything last year I remember the right wing grifters complaining about it because there was like a rainbow swimsuit in the kids section or whatever and like??? yes, children love rainbows, wtf is wrong with people for ruining good things when even within their narrative there is nothing wrong with a product.

my favorite part of pride festivals is the small business booths for local artists and artisans and all kinds of handmade goods! i wish they had more of those and less corporations tho.
9:50 Having major corporations virtue signal isn't exactly the most meaningful change, but it does help to have that visible reminder that there are other people out there like us. I do feel like there's been more homophobia in the last year or so than previously, but idk if it's just that I'm more open about the fact that I'm not straight than previously and so maybe I've just encountered it more.
A lot of the businesses in my home town donated to our local pride event this year and it was so nice to see as someone who went to that event. It was also my first time going to pride this year ! :)

ah emily i really appreciate your existence, being a queer man in a middle eastern country really messes up with your sense of reality sometimes, could i even detect if my feelings were reciprocated for once i doubt it every now and then because i also hide them all too well, oh with each second this comment kinda drifts further apart from the subject but i want to give in to that and just share a quote from a homosexual poet walt whitman: Sullen and suffering hours! (I am ashamed - but it is useless - I am what I am) Hours of my torment - I wonder if other men ever have the like, out of the like feelings? Is there even one other like me - his friend, his lover, lost to him.
It always felt disingenuous, the brands that moved to market pride in the 2010s appeared, to me at least, like they were making a “risky move” but, knowing these companies are so money forward it never felt genuine and worthy of celebrating. I’ve been thinking about this for the last few junes lmao, thank you for making this!
That "hi" to your roommate was adorable. Glad you're sharing a space with someone you actually like. Unless that "hi" was sarcastic. 😄 Either way, you should get her on a video where she watches you play "Hatoful Boyfriend" along with the rest of us. 😉
You’re right, it’s everywhere. I went to London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam in June and it is so heavily commercialized. I was walking with my cousin in London and since we were both girls who look around the same age, an employee from a store asked if we wanted their queer collection. We did not. Like, damn, not every single same sex pair wants your rainbows.
As a eastern bisexual guy not gonna lie I like to not having to live in that witch hunt era ( like I would’ve if I was born earlier ), but I definitely feel like pride month isn’t really it sometimes. I feel like pride lost its meaning from the moment profit was involved. People underestimate the destructive and corruptive power of money a lot and simply don’t understand that no matter how good willed you are, if there’s money greed will always be stronger than passion
I remember seeing gay ads back in the nineties and being thrilled! I used to read music magazines, my favourites were Select, Q and Hot Press. These magazines all had queer ads from time to time, which back then was actually progressive. It was pretty much always only alcohol, cigarette or condom ads that featured gay couples, but it was cool to see!
no joke in my MORAL exam there’s a question asking “Do you agree with the act of supporting the LGBT community?” and if u write “Yes” u straight up get no marks🧍🏻♀️I live in malaysia so ig that provides some context but also the fact that i had this exam ON THE FIRST DAY JUNE- LIKE OML
i gotta say, this isn’t completely related, this is random but galway is definitely an ally city without monetising it 😭😭 like it’s such a culture shock for me to go from a county where EVERYONE except a select few (mostly my family) are homophobic to a place with pride flags all over, yk?
I mean i grew up in the 90s and early 2000s in South Wales (for international people during this time section 28 was in place where they made it illegal for schools, councils and basically anywhere to talk about the LGBT+ community in any positive way, only getting repealed in 2003) so for me i still find companies being openly supportive of the LGBTQIA+ community a bit jarring, simply because it feels like they woke up one year and decided "we can make more money by commodifying pride"
During Pride the last few years, I've been trying to support smaller LGBT owned businesses instead of doing the main Pride events since they feel really corporate and fake (that and the Pride committee in Toronto allowing the police back into the parade despite previously banning them indefinitely after they let a serial killer run loose in the village for years just said to me that the people in charge truly don't care as long as they get paid)

Are you Indian ?
If yes then I understand your worries
India isn't the best place for queer people . Most people are really ignorant and being queer is considered being ' western ' . We aren't the worst either but queer people shouldn't settle for the bare minimum . A lot of teenagers are also really queerphobic , thankfully I have a supporting friend circle but I know it isn't the same for everyone . The best advice I'd give you is to focus on yout career ( or studies) and make being successful your end goal . Your parents will accept you don't worry . Major reason being bigotry is ignorance once your parents find out you are queer they will try their best to understand.
You are loved ! have faith in yourself !

Well, we should probably be paying attention
this is how i feel about it, i know it's all commercial bs but walking past a pride flag or a weird rainbow shirt is so satisfying to me because i live in such a queerphobic town. when there's a bunch of gayness in the air i know the weird homophobic guys from my old class are losing their mind. also relate to the trans rights thing here in england becauise our prime minister rn is a pos transphobe with his panties in a twist about trans kids
yeah i forgot pride was even happening because i didnt see any of it this year. even hot topic and spencers were basically empty..
Glory to you and your identity

as a bisexual, i feel like even though theres a month that celebrates us gay people, june is always the month that the most homophobia. which sucks, because a month thats supposed to uplift us ends up making a brutal wave of the amount of homophobia that every gay person faces. it makes me feel a little ashamed to celebrate the month.

Welcome to Canada 😮😮 (I'm sorry I just like canada being mentioned 😅)
It’s kinda expensive here, be careful
I like the more subtle prides I've seen around, they're really relaxing and nice. There was a massive picnic for pride, everyone was just chilling and there were some stalls for neat things someone could buy etc. I couldn't enjoy it myself since I just got back from a trip and was tired, but it looked really great.

thank you for your videos and for being here. as someone who lives in homophobic country (I could go to jail just because I'm lesbian) it's really important for me to know that people actually care about gay rights and there are other gay people who can be who they are!! it somehow brings me hope
happy pride month everyone! hope yall are safe and sound

9:49 i agree: the FIFA had the rainbow pfp for june, but they changed it back to their normal logo because they received A LOT of homophobic comments
Yes and when Barca changed their the comments was full of them
For me, I wouldn't mind companies promoting pride as long as they prove that they're genuinely caring.
Emily you a real one we love you girl

i just got really sad thinking about all the gays from years ago that lived in a constant fear of being who they are. my favorite part of pride festivals is the small business booths for local artists and artisans and all kinds of handmade goods! i wish they had more of those and less corporations tho.

ah emily i really appreciate your existence, being a queer man in a middle eastern country really messes up with your sense of reality sometimes, could i even detect if my feelings were reciprocated for once i doubt it every now and then because i also hide them all too well, oh with each second this comment kinda drifts further apart from the subject but i want to give in to that and just share a quote from a homosexual poet walt whitman:
Sullen and suffering hours! (I am ashamed - but it is useless - I am what I am)
Hours of my torment - I wonder if other men ever have the like, out of the like feelings?
Is there even one other like me - his friend, his lover, lost to him.

You’re right, it’s everywhere. I went to London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam in June and it is so heavily commercialized.
