- Episode 10, Season 2 of Reveal New Zealand from Marlborough Sounds! We're leaving Picton on a Cougar Line ferry out to Furneaux lodge, but first a scenic flight with Pelorus Air over the Marlborough Sounds... ✪ Take a look at campervan options for your trip here - www.motorhomer...
It's crazy to think the Marlborough Sounds make up about 20 percent of New Zealands coast line, yet it's a stunning part of the South Island we've never visited before. We're not just taking a scenic flight over The Sounds with Pelorus Air, we're also jumping on a ferry and heading deep in there for a few days as well! First stop, Furneaux Lodge.
Over the next few days we'll be exploring deep into the Marlborough Sounds and walking the super popular Queen Charlotte Track. This part of the South Island is ridiculously stunning from above and even more beautiful from the ground - we really are beyond blessed in New Zealand!

This was the best yet! Before I was a 747-400 airline pilot, I flew C-130’s in the Air Force and dirt landings were my specialty. This trip made my day! I love the way you guys work together to bring out the best of New Zealand? So glad I found your Channel.
Dirt landings! That sounds like a lot of fun. We're so glad you found our channel too - thank you for the kind words, you just made our day too!
So envious of you guys. What a beautiful, beautiful country you get to call home. Your vlogs have a really nice tone as well. Grounded but romantic.
Such a kind comment, thank you! We really appreciate that.
You guys are sooo sweet, that moment in the sounds apartment when Stacey put her head on your shoulder and how you looked at her❤️aww so lovely. Thanks for the inspiration, I am going to go to the queen Charlotte track for sure, beautiful, thanks for a great series 😊
It's so nice capturing those moments we don't even realise are happening at the time and then when we edit the vlogs and look back it's the best ❤️ Cute you spotted this!
Oooof, I think this may have just trumped Abel Tasman on my top place I must visit in NZ. Don't get me wrong, what you showed us of Abel Tasman was beautiful, but a very expected kind of beauty, but the remoteness and slightly ruggedness of this area is a dream! I can not wait to see the hikes along the Queen Charlotte Track ❤️❤️❤️ Once again, thank you for sharing, who knew future trip planning could be as fun/enjoyable as this! 🙌
We thought of you when we posted this and wondered which track you'd like best! So excited for you to visit and experience this for yourself!
Thank goodness the wind came when you were on the boat instead of when you were on the plane! Stunning scenery. Stunning accommodation. Can't wait for the next vlog! 😎
So true! Thankful to be on solid ground when it was that windy!
Absolutely breathtaking! Thank you so very much for taking us along!
Thanks for flying with us 😊
Wow, the sounds are even more stunning from the air than they are from the sea! So lucky to see them like that 🙂
So lucky! It was even more incredible in person, wish photos and video could capture just how stunning it is 😍
Another awesome vid guys!!!!!
Thanks so much! Appreciate it :)
Thank you for bringing us on this adventure! Wow the views I think we like this plane too! ~Cara 😊
Thanks for coming with us! ✈️
So beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous. The water is so clear and pristine. Thanks for the great video as always guys.
The water is incredible, couldnt believe we could see a stingray swimming by! Thanks for watching :)
Truly remarkable part of the country. Thank you for sharing and thank you for including Stace’s stone skimming attempt in the final cut 😂 made my day 👌
Hahahah the stone skimming is our favourite part 😂
Wauw wauw Stunning. 🤩🤩🤩The views footage from the plane. Looks like paradise in its own way 😜
Trail sounds amazing. Looking forward to to the nextpart 🥰
Paradise is the perfect way to describe it! Hope you enjoyed the Queen Charlotte Track vlog!
Three observations on this one -
I love seeing the world from above
I love stormy boat rides
I have a friend with whom I served in the military who lives in Picton.
We're practically related. lol. Another great video. Thank you
We love your observations! But we dont love stormy boat rides 😂
Just EPIC !!!! If there is heaven on earth - it's the Marlborough Sounds. You guys know how much I love the top of the South Island (Marlborough/Nelson/Tasman),but the Marlborough Sounds are IT for me. Even driving along Queen Charlotte Drive you can see a fair amount of the Sounds, but driving out to Kenepuru Sounds,a very long drive,is worth it as well. But awesome vlog today, and this just brings back many memories (especially that Queen Charlotte track). And was that Picton International Airport at the beginning ? Bustling as ever...
Yeah that was Picton airport, can you believe we had to wait for another plane to take off before us 😂 Rush hour!
@@DaneAndStacey Hahaha, yep !I'd believe you'd have to wait at Picton International Airport... It has to be one of the busiest airports in the Southern hemisphere, hahaha. Mind you, cheeky buggers making you guys wait - don't they know who you are ? Actually, surprised you didn't leave from Blenheim International Airport
Hey Guys, my day is made! You’ve started the awesome Marlborough Sounds.Much looking forward to the rest of your fab vlogs in this spot.Aroha Nui from UK.🤗
We could spend months here 😍 Such an epic part of the world! Sending good vibes to the UK!
Love what you did with the music in this one (and the views of course)
Thanks Emma! Dane spends so much time perfecting the music so it's really nice to read comments like this. Makes all the time and effort worth it!
That landing strip!!!! But what a flight and location. Such a cool plane too. I'm always amazed at how these smaller planes can take off and land in such a tight situation. I flew from UK to Cork in Ireland on a twin prop engined passenger plane (seated about 30) once and it was up into the air in no time, cruised at 12000 feet so views were great. Brilliant camerawork as always :)
That sounds like a flight to remember! We couldn't believe it when we saw where we were landing, a few sweaty palms that's for sure!
What a fun video, great flight and water travel views! I love New Zealand💖! Another interesting video.🕵️♀️ Good job guys! Can't wait to see your videos of the rest your travels in New Zealand! Thanks for sharing your lives and adventures in New Zealand. Stay safe and have fun. 🧔
Happy to hear you enjoyed this one. Still plenty more fun vlogs to come!
You guys deserve >1M subs. Such good content to look forward to in these tough times. Please do a Singapore tour once this COVID🤦♂️ is over
Thank you, that's very kind! We would love to come to Singapore once the world settles down!
The stingray was so cool! My attempt at skipping a stone would go exactly the same as Stacey's. Looks like a lovely and fun place to stay!
😂 Can't believe my skimming fail is on the internet for the whole world to see! Glad I'm not alone!
@@DaneAndStacey I imagine a good number of viewers will relate to not being able to skim a stone
Love the campervan name! So cute!
We love Dora too 😊
This was magical! How perfect can one place be? 😍 Dora has officially arrived! She’s been named! I’m off on my second adventure today now that things have opened up, and honestly I can’t thank you guys enough, seeing your videos all the time has given me my adventure streak back! :)
That's so exciting, hope you're having an amazing adventure!! So happy you got that fire back 🔥
Hi I am so happy for you both being able to see so many beautiful things
Thanks Paul!
Looks a bit like Paradise does it not? NZ seems to me, to be me a lot as I remember growing up around light aircraft 50 years ago in Oregon and British Columbia. Compared to today back then seems magical like what I'm seeing from your journey.
@@alisonpinches775 Indeed... From Daneger and Stacy's travels and what we glimpsed from the air, it does look much like western Oregon, and B.C. but what struck me was that there appeared to be a magical, unspoiled nature that's much less common those areas of the U.S. and Canada I remember from Childhood that caused me to wax blissfully nostalgic for a moment. People who have been to the South Island and a few Kiwi's I know from there, say it's a bit dull compared to the U.S. and the coasts of Canada, but as we know there are growing concessions to peace and civility that come when you give up 'dullness', and after a years of Riots in Portland and what is now sprouting the grass on the south Islands looks a lot greener.
Absolument parfait ! Impossible de venir maintenant en NZ, mais dès que les vols réouvriront, on saute dans le 1er avion depuis TAHITI ! Merci pour ces superbes vidéo, pour votre talent et votre fraicheur !
TAHITI?! 😍 Maybe we should switch places!
Man that takes me back spent heaps of time at Fernaux growing up, even went missing there once when me and another kid went for a walk and got lost haha Pings cove is another epic spot in the sounds
Haha we can see how easily that could happen, it's basically on the track! Glad you didn't wander too far 🙊
Such a great adventure, guys! Your footage is amazing 👏😍🙌 hugs from the Netherlands 🇳🇱🤗
Sending big hugs right back at ya! Thank you 😊
I am here again, watching your very nice vídeo!
Thank you again 😊
Awesome and lovely flight! Loved it! And Daneger, are you ready to start on your pilot's license? I'm guessing Stacey as a cool head might be a natural pilot as well.
Oooh lordy! I'm (Stacey) secretly afraid of everything 😂 So think we'll leave the flying up to the professionals. Wouldnt be surprised if Dane was on board with this idea though!
@@DaneAndStacey Thanks much for the reply. I suggested considering flying because you both seem very level headed, and obviously have a passion for travel and adventure.
I've noticed Stacey, that often what take to be fear is simply anxiety over things like the unknown or doubt in our own abilities.
I've known several people who thought they were 'afraid of everything' as you put it, who took up flying and in the process overcame their "fear" issues once they understood a bit the physics involved and that light aircraft are no on the edge of disaster all the time, and not that difficult to pilot.
Maybe it would be a cool episode could be "Our first flying lesson" I have some contacts in NZ who are old-school aviation professionals who love introducing people to aviation whom I could reach out to, and I'll bet there may be someone who's an old hand at overcoming anxiety and helping people along in their life's adventure. Let me know if you might want to consider something further.
Cheers!.
Guys the flight ✈️ secluded landing is awesome 😎 that make me can’t wait to travel 🧳 soon and can’t wait to see next vids
Thank you!
The dog so cute enjoy the rest of trip.
SUCH a cute little doggo (we were covered in dog hair for days though) 😂 the malty-ist dog we ever did meet!
Lemon scones... you had lemon scones... I am so jealous! Great vlog in a beautiful place. However when my partner and I were returning from the Russian border down the coast of Norway we had 50 to 70 metre waves. We have both got certificates to show our bravery and neither of us were poorly even though everything in our cabin hit me in my berth including the coffee table. So might I suggest that the splashy bit was just fine. Stay chilled. Love what you do :D
That sounds awful, I would need more than a certificate to survive that 😂 Good on you!
@@DaneAndStacey Nah all part of the fun... and the Northern lights cascading through the sky as we left Tromso was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen :D
Just wow 👏😍 our country sure is pretty 😊
It really is, we're so lucky!
11:36 that was one happy man running into a pole haha
😂 Great spotting!
The views from above are unreal. What an amazing country/island NZ is. Not jealous at all hahahaha however I suppose you folks feel the same about Scotland. Hopefully within the next 2 years we will visit NZ.
Absolutely! We LOVE Scotland - Sometimes it's easier to see the beauty in the unfamiliar but this trip has definitely changed that for us!
@@DaneAndStacey I completely understand what you mean. I have just returned from a trip to an area in Scotland called Argyl and Bute and a town called Dunoon and OMG!!! I have a few images on my a Instagram @craig_mcallister_photography if you have a minute take a look. It made me fall in love with Scotland all over again.
I have always thought that Marlborough has some of the finest scenery New Zealand has to offer - Too many see it as just an entry point and dash away further south as soon as they disembark the ferry - - - I saw a little glimpse of Danger with a rod in his hand - Is that something we can look forward to later?..
That's a very good point and we've been guilty of doing that in the past. Never again! The fishing vlog will be up very soon :)
Sitting on the throne, multi tasking, watching this video, that attempt at a stone throw Stacey,I cracked up,the misses came running through to see what I was laughing at,she was rolling around lolling quite heartily.
Hahaha you guys!! 😂 Glad we could provide some laughs for ya both.
@@DaneAndStacey 😊👍
OMG. Looks so good
It was incredible, so grateful for the experience 🙌🏻
Yooo! Where you guys landed, portgore, has been my family batch for 30+ years, I’ve been going there my whole life, the road, yes is literally a nightmare haha 3.5+ hours but it’s amazing when you get there! 6:30 time stamp in the video literally might be the same spot we’ve been launching the boat from my whole life, it’s insane to see you guys in the same spot! Even my profile picture is the view lmao, I live in Picton, Waikawa too, so lucky to have all of this in my backyard literally!
NO WAY! Do you know Pilot Paul?! We love stories like this, so cool. We're super jealous you've got to spend so much time there. It's even more amazing in person!
@@DaneAndStacey yeah I believe I do know Paul, though I’m much more familiar with cliff and Chris who live down there in the house next to ours, they also fly a much smaller plane with 4 seats, though I haven’t heard from them in a couple years I wonder what they’re up to 🤔 lol
Very nice video 👍🇨🇦
Thank you!
On your flight back to Koromiko, you flew over Waikawa Marina, which I helped design when I worked for the local Harbour Board (now port company). Now that you have seen some of Marlborough, I am sure you understand why I stayed there for 25+ years.
We love stories like this!! We can completely understand why, we wish we could stay there that long.
This is beautiful, hope I can visit this place one day! Keep up the great content.🚀 From another creator :)
Love hearing from fellow creators! Thanks for the support, really appreciate it.
In my back yard, I need to do this tour too!!
Definitely! Put it on your list, you won't regret it.
My friend and I are touring the South Island in a motor home and wanted to ask if a $5000 bond is normal when you hire one? Do all companies do that? What do you recommend cheers :)
We can't speak for all companies as we've only ever booked through Maui & Discover NZ via Motorhome Republic which both required a bond. Uusually it depends on the type of insurance you take too. If you opt to pay more upfront for a lower excess, rollover cover etc your bond will be lower.
Hello from Brazil
Hello!
Can't believe I have been there and seen all that. Just two years ago. Seems like a lifetime ago.
Isn't it crazy! We look back at all our 2019 adventures and can't quite believe how long ago it feels.
Words can't describe how fast I will get to NZ when the world opens up.
Yes!! Pack those bags!
@@DaneAndStacey our bags have been packed..literally...vacpacked since October 2020.. 😆
100% with u on that MrHPsauce
seeing home whilst living overseas through someone else's eyes their 1st time.
Pretty special huh!
Looked like a Cessna Grand Caravan.
😍😍
☺️
WoW so now Stacey must be named Daneger? And what shall we call Dan? :P
Dan = Dane 😉
@@DaneAndStacey hehe true! :D
Another beautiful place
The Marlborough Sounds are incredible!
Fourth!! Still waiting for my granola haha :)
Haha thank you for your patience 😂
Nice! This is a bit random but you two seem like a good team. How did you meet? I'm looking for a life partner. Kind, gentle, stable, likes belonging, likes healthy food and nature, warm hearted and generous! I wonder where to look.
#speakupforlee
❤️ Thanks Tanya - We didn't know Lee, but this is a good reminder for anyone who sees this that they're not alone.
First..😊
Dayyummm Alan, you fast!
