The Industry That Created and then Built West Virginia.
It could be argued that no other industry is more important in West Virginia’s history than railroads. The B&O lines won its statehood and the C&O, N&W and Virginian railroads joined in to build coal and other industries. Railroads have been the lifeblood of the mountain state and continue to play that role.
