Finally a very basic tutorial that doesnt go "oh and lets start by building something simple.... A GIANT CASTLE!!" I like watching dirt and placing objects into another
Great tips & presentation style! I especially like how your boards all have those tactile/old school borders - gives them that very authentic tabletop-type feel.
Love this. I just picked up talespire, and I know it's going to improve my games a ton. This tutorial has a ton of great advice and tips for making great maps.
This is a really nice tutorial for beginners! Couple things I think are worth noting though... Firstly I love the look of the layered props to create a dense forest floor, but doing so will create more strain on your system, so those with lower spec machines may struggle to render it all smoothly. Secondly, Hero Forge integration is native now, so you don't need a mod for that.
Definitely puts some strain on it if there’s too many, people will have to gauge that for themselves. The heroforge thing is super cool too, I’ve been meaning to do another vid about the mods and heroforge integration since it came out. Although the custom unit integration mod has been F’d since the cyberpunk patch >
Just stumbled on your video and I really like how you break some stuff down. I love the tool, but it's been crazy trying to figure stuff out on my own. Not sure if you touch on it later, but can you advise on how "big" you should make the zones? Sometimes I feel like spaces just get overwhelming.
I think it depends on how quickly your game starts chugging, or on your players limits too. I’d head to talestavern.com and check out some of the maps there - some of them are enormous and beautiful but impractical to play in, because more assets = more lag. That line will be different for everyone
It comes with a ton of them in every category, and all the mods are free obv, but if you want to import minis you've made in 3rd party websites like Heroforge, you'll have to purchase it from them. I stress getting as many mini mods as possible because the more variety you have, the better time you'll have setting up encounters etc.
This is fantastic, but I'm having a problem with the ctrl modifier - the game isn't letting me mush objects together like how you did with the rocks and the trees, its only letting me raise and lower the object :/
While you're holding CTRL it'll only let you move up or down like on a Y axis, but once you release CTRL it'll move along the X axis and you can mesh it. You hold ctrl to pick the height and then it will stay specifically at that height and you can sneak it into other things. Hope that makes sense in text!
@@ItsNket Oh that was so simple, thank you so much D: I'm trying to make an abandoned swamp temple and really need all those trees and shrubbery to be squashed against the stone lol
@@ItsNket I'm having this same issue, but once I release CTRL, it snaps the the thing I'm placing to the grid, it doesn't let me place things between the grid lines to smooth out the textures
@@Jamietomp mmmm I’m not sure, maybe there’s something in the options? Or it might be the size of the piece? 1x1 things won’t be able to cross grid lines like that, only the 2x2.
So only a few of my players actually have it, what I do for those that don't is just stream my screen to discord and during combat they tell me where they want to move. You can use different tiles to block out their view of different rooms to keep things hidden, so the only downside is they can't move their own mini.
@@ItsNket I will have to give that a try. It'll be a bit before I know it well enough to try running the game with talespire. But I'm excited to learn some new tools.
@@ItsNket While I haven't used it for a game sesh yet (kinda waiting for the Weaver portion to really go nuts), one thing we discussed for my table as I had gotten several copies was to have the GM screen, then a handful of "player perspectives".
The more assets you add, the more your performance is going to be affected. The floor tiles are fairly large so you don’t need as many of them to cover a space as you would something like ferns - but like everything else it’s going to hit your performance.
Would really appreciate some basic 'how to' vids. Like how to build roof (spent hours last night struggling with a simple thatched roof. How to make 'favourites' How to 'Copy builds' for use in other builds.
Yeah, everyone will need the mods in order to see the placed units. Kind of a setback, but they’re relatively easy to get. Also, if you’re using heroforge transformations, everyone will need those data files so it’s even more of a pain. We circumvent it by usually just streaming Talespire from DM perspective, but that ain’t the greatest for everyone.
Yeah, definitely. The more assets you have on the board the more your frame rate can chug. I have small battlemaps for random encounters that glide smoothly, and large cities where the frame rate tanks. Depends on your system but still a definite yes
Are you launching it from the R2 mod manager, or from steam? I find if I just launch from steam, it launches the vanilla version and won’t load the mods. The R2 program has a “launch modded” button that will load everything
Depends on your system, I guess. But brother you should see some of the cityscapes made by some people, they make this look like a loose handful of objects by comparison.
Nice video!
When stacking objects like trees, you can hold ‘x’ while dragging and it will snap to the center of the object at the bottom.
Oh my god that's so useful, thanks! I've been dragging everything under trying to match up pixels and it's so time consuming >
of all the guides for me to start talespire
this one by far helped me the most
Wow, thanks!

Thanks! I've only been at it for a few weeks, just wanted to share what I've learned so far because you aren't fed very much information to start out.

Best Talespire content I’ve seen. Awesome work man
Nice vídeo, thank you, im in love with Talespire
Appreciate the vid! Just got Talespire and appreciate your succinct style of providing tips. You got my sub!
Thank you! New group I am running for and we are about to start using TS!
Awesome work, you gave me a ton of ideas, thanks.
How does this not have more likes...

Is there a maximum size for the battle map?
Also, do you have to purchase assets within the program?
It comes with a ton of them in every category, and all the mods are free obv, but if you want to import minis you've made in 3rd party websites like Heroforge, you'll have to purchase it from them. Aaaand now I have to buy this software. Idk If I'll be able to convince my players to get it but damn does it look good.

@@TheBloodyMutt that’s a cool idea, seeing people zoom in and explore and changing perspectives is a pretty slick way to do it, kind of cinematic
How much of a performance hit is it when your add floors to eliminate grid lines? Negligible?

I'll give that a shot, I've been playing with different roof designs over the past couple days.
More please.
Just as a general question. If you use mods for extra miniatures. Do players also need to download those same mods in order to work?
Yeah, everyone will need the mods in order to see the placed units. Kind of a setback, but they’re relatively easy to get.

@@Eviloldgregg Just tryna help out my fellow nerds :D ty!
The grid is IMPORTANT for players to measure off their turn without distracting everyone else with a measurement ruler
If the grids necessary for your players, then by all means leave it uncovered.
so where can i get the mods? it isnt in the description
Oh my bad, I must’ve removed it. talespire.thunderstore.io/
OMG how do you get the view from top down?? haha
You can rotate the camera by holding down your middle mouse button, is that what you mean?
Does stacking multiple objects impact performance at all?
Yeah, definitely. The more assets you have on the board the more your frame rate can chug.
I have small battlemaps for random encounters that glide smoothly, and large cities where the frame rate tanks. Depends on your system but still a definite yes
If I mod talespire, can I still get the free updates from the game itself?
Yep!
I installed all the mods just can't seem to find the mini's anywhere any help?

All these suggestions seem to create a lot of objects to render.
This seems a very inefficient way to make 3D models.
