Seen them live many times, always up front. The sheer volume that beats you in your face for over an hour.... I know some people don't get it, and that's totally alright. Just glad I do. Hopefully Matt sticks around as long as Lemmy did. One of my favorite musicians.
I had tickets to see them but Matt got his toe chopped off and had to cancel, finally this past year I got to see them live and it RIPPED everything I imagined it to be !
I’ve seen them live more than any other band… and only once was on purpose. They kept showing up at shows for bands I wanted to see and I eventually became a fan. Love Pike, dudes a treasure.
@@Eliphas_Elric Interesting fact, Matt was engaged to a friend of mines cousin around 10 years ago. He came to Soddy Daisy Tenn and stayed with my friends parents. They had a water leak or something, and he was out there in their yard, shirt off of course, digging with a shovel helping out. Can you imagine driving through a neighborhood and seeing Matt Pike digging a trench lol. They went to Gatlinburg Tenn, and from what I was told, they couldnt get him off the Nascar go cart track. I would have killed to see this.
One of my favourite bands ever since they released "The Art of Self Defence". Too many good songs in their catalogue to mention. Pike is an absolute legend.
I love that after all these years of cranking out killer riffs Jeff and Matt clearly still have such a pure joy of playing with each other. They make a good team! I would have liked to see Blessed Black Wings and Turk included on this list but I can’t complain- you really can’t go wrong with any HoF.
1st HOF show was them opening for Motorhead in LA house of blues, never heard of them and then BAM this sound and shirtless guy surrounded by green stacks lol , been a fan since . Was a fan of Zeke and then BAM Jeff is in HOF . Many shows later they are still the best .

I've never met Matt but he seems as genuine and human as a guy could be. I haven't gotten a single whiff of arrogance from any interview I've ever seen with him. It's like he doesn't realize how bad ass his music really is. I hope to see them live one day
I met Matt one night at a show in Knoxville. We smoked some cigs together and talked about music for at least 30 minutes. He was super nice, funny and genuine. And shirtless, of course, hahaha.
Blessed Black Wings? That said, their ability to make relatively simple harmonies absolutely memorable and hard hitting by developing their style is awesome. High on Fire is an adjective for a style of riff.
God do I love these two men. The music they make is so powerful. Matt Pike once bumped into me at the double door in Chicago. I was like holy shit, it’s High on Fire!!!
The world is full of amazing guitar/bass players for who just one of these amazing riffs would be the best riff they ever wrote and here’s Matt and Jeff just making it rain with non stop riffs! High on Fire are up to their eyeballs in amazing riffs 🎸🤘
Most excellent behind the riffing! High on Fire are one of those rare bands that doesn’t have a bad album.(only my opinion)Super stoked for new High on Fire!🤘🤘
I remember talking to Mr. Pike before a show and asked if he had 10,000 years on the setlist and he said he wasn't into the slow stuff as much (during the time). It was right after death was this communion was released. Glad Sleep got back together and he's back into the slowed down grooves ;) 10,000 years is my all time favorite HOF jam! Matt is exactly who you'd think he'd be in person... no ego, super down to earth and respectful and fun as hell. Makes you appreciate the band that much more!
You two need to know how truly inspirational you are and have been....you look healthy and lucid and I will always be indebted for having the great fortune of getting my mind blown by your distinct gifts and discipline!

Return to nod. From death is this communion has been on my daily play list for well over three years and i never get sick of that opening riff! Thanks for the music my dudes.
Wow, cool to hear Matt talk about being inspired by The Haunted. their debut album is an overlooked classic. And I can totally hear some of their note choices worked their way into some HoF riffs.
I used to love The Haunted Made Me Do It, but I haven’t thought about that one in years! I immediately knew what he was talking about when he said it though.
I saw them back in 08 at a small venue in Dallas. We went for another band that was opening for them and I hadn’t ever heard their music. Matt came out with his shirt off and they started playing Fury Whip and it blew my mind. I’ve been a fan ever since.
Omg I wanted to have them keep going on fury whip! My absolute favorite HOF riff is the main intro to the verse….they stopped right before that!! Great way to start a Friday though.
I love that they started with 10,000 Years, because that was the first HoF song I heard and it immediately made me a hardcore fan. Also, the fact that most of these riffs are from SFTD and before reflects my obsession of listening to the first 5 albums. Matt and Matz, love it
This is amazing! Its especially great to see them jamming it out rather than Scott Ian just talking about it (nothing wrong with that). It's also interesting to learn what Jeff has written. I knew he wrote some stuff (Matt told me and my group of friends in Bloomington Jeff wrote half of Snakes For The Divine).
Same here, heheh. I sing/growl so I'm naturally drawn to the vocals and I'm super into lyrics, but with HoF you just can't. The riffs, man, they're just too fucking good. Even after the 100th time, it's just not worth it paying attention to anything else. Matt Pike is a genius.

I've been listening to these guys for 15 years. Probably over a year straight of constant heaviness in my ears. God protect Matt Pike and Jeff Matz.

High On Fire is criminally underrated in the overall Metal scene. Many fans of extreme stuff are missing the heaviest of the heavy shit out there.
it's heavy in terms of sound but not super heavy/dark/aggressive in attitude i think

I like how Jeff seems to write on guitar.
A lot of writing bass players do, much easier to get ideas across at first then jump on bass when you start jamming it
Pike keeps saying these riffs “fall from the sky” because he is too humble to see that he is the modern day riff master.
My favorite’s always been Romulus and Remus from De Vermis Mysteriis. Such a pounding riff

That whole albums destroys. Bloody Knuckles is my personal favorite
