Found an old mower on the property I bought and the primer bulb was totally rotted away so I didn't know if it had a hole, or not. Luckily the mower shop I brought the remains to(including the metal retaining ring) could identify which one I needed by looking at a picture I took of the motor and get me the correct one. It was one with a hole, and it worked. Still cannot figure how those ones with holes work, but it does...
Ha! I bought one of those 3 packs of bulbs to replace a bulb on my string trimmer and my next door neighbor needed a bulb for his mower and one of the remaining two fit his mower. That's a win in my book.
And it happened sooner than later, so you could find them. That's a win. See if anybody else comments. For me, it's been about five years and I just used the second for a chainsaw where you're supposed to get the removable black nipple jobbie with bulb, all in one. I used some pooper glue epoxy. Still have the large one left for some unknown emergency. She's right $12 + Democrats? Or one at a time for alot less at the saw/trimmer/ mower shop. To each his own.
Outstanding presentation! You are an excellent teacher and very thorough with your examples. I recently replaced the original primer bulb on my 30+ year old Stihl BG72 blower with a WALBRO carburetor. The bulb was clearly cracked. After watching & listening to your video it was so easy to replace!
Thanks again for great video's. As a retired mechanic I did not understand how the primer bulb worked. I thought it pushed the gas to the carburetor, not pulled it to the carburetor. Now get back to work SPRING IS COMING. Don

You’re awesome. You don’t hold anything back and you’re completely honest. That’s the way it should be when you have your own business. Lying and scamming people will get you no where. Thank you for your time and most of all, thank you for being genuine.
Hello, love your videos.... I have a troy bilt TB685EC that has the 3 nipple primer bulb. I'm having difficulty in finding information on how to hook this up. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a 3 nipple primer bulb and replaced the fuel lines and after installing it I can’t remember where they go. The picture I took wasn’t clear enough. It’s for a craftsman 27 cc blower
Hi this is Paul Bowers and I wanted to know when you going to go to your new shop and get it going and I really like your show I really can get into what you're saying and I appreciate all the help you give me and I have a saying if you're as busy as you are you're busier than a cat in a sandbox after eating a bar of Excellence and I hope you get a good kick out of that
I replaced the one on my mower a couple of years ago. It wasn't cracked and it still worked...sorta. It was 30 years old and just lost all its stiffness. New one works great!
THANK YOU! I have a very old Homelite leaf blower that my uncle gave me years ago. It still works, so I kept it. After a few years of not being able to use it, I decided to break it out. The primer bulbe had cracked due to the excessive heat in my garage. I ordered new bulbs (great deal) and then when I removed it, I was unable to see which hose attached to their particular nipples. Thanks to you😊, I'm back up and running! ☺ You are amazing! 🤗
I've been out of small engine repair for several decades,so this brings back a lot of memories! It's surprising how little has changed. Do cheap line trimmers still use the worst quality fuel hose in existence😄? I occasionally fix neighbors machines and that's been the issue 90% of the time
Always take a photo (with your phone) of the "build plate" with your make, model and serial number, with you when going looking for parts.. much easier then bringing the machine ;) Where I live, that means taking photo and going inside to search online.. lol
I really like this channel. Even when I see titles that don't particularly appeal to my needs, I watch anyway. It's amazing the large and small things I can pick up from the presentation. Please....keep up the good work.
My Craftsman snow blower's primer bulb puffs air into the float bowl, causing the gas jet to squirt gas into the intake manifold. It may last longer than others because it doesn't touch gas. AND, just like you said, the reason I had to service it was a clogged carb. I added a shutoff valve so I can avoid this. (Sta-Bil failed me) HEY, how can we get your subscriber count up? You deserve the credit!
Well, I am 66 years old and have worked on many mowers and snow blowers over the years and never really thought about the flow direction but always assumed it was sucking from tank and blowing into carb - boy was I wrong, Thanks for the info
Dang. I learned something again. Thanks, Bri! And you are on time with the borescope deal. I ordered it, and got an extra 20% off. So, $39.98 + tax. Chose free shipping.
Thanks! You a goddess of small engine knowledge! I am a fairly mechanical guy, but the concept of the bulb pulling fuel through the carb really clarified it for me. Your assembled example was exactly what I needed. The “short=sucks, long =blows”mnemonic saying is probably best kept in the fuel bulb conversation.
Thanks for this explanation! I'm one of those who (for 30+ years) assumed backwards & never traced hoses or researched enough to know the primer bulb sucks through the carb instead of blows into it. 😂
I tore my entire engine apart on my husqvarna trimmer b/c I refused to believe the check valve in the primer bulb failed. Turned out that WAS the issue. I was so pissed. Those things never fail!!
HI Chickanic I had a customer who brought in his strimmer he had fitted a bulb to. It was the wrong size as he needed a smaller one. The thing was he fitted it and ended up bending the plate. A few tap to flatten it and the correct bulb fitted solve his problem. A most helpful video, even I learnt something. Short suck, long blow. Saves me from putting my finger over the end and pressing the bulb to find which is which.
I learn a lot from you, thank you, there are a few channels on TH-cam and they are all good, my preference is watching your channel, I like the way you explain in detail what the problem is, and how to solve it.
I wished I had come across your video earlier. It would’ve saved me 2 hours of fiddling around with the primer bulb and figuring out which way to connect the fuel lines. Very helpful video. Thanks!
Our local shops are all now charging a $5 search fee with an additional $5 fee if you don't have your model and serial numbers ready or have the tool with you and that search is dependent on it being on your file. So I turn I go in with pics of the serial tag and the part diagram with part number(s) John Deere fees are $9.99 for each part
Thank you great video, when it warms up here in Ohio in a month or so, I’ll get this video back out and review all my two strokes per your videos❤️❤️🙏🏽
Lots of great information, many times in the past I wish I knew - some of us learned the hard way. I found that filters that are full of water will not let the bulb pull gasoline to the carburetor.
I finally had to replace the one on my 22year old Tecumseh push mower. It still worked even after it cracked all the way around...but finally the top fell off. $6 and a super easy snap ring replacement. No need to remove anything but the metal bulb ring itself...which you destroy popping it loose. They always come woth a new one.
Bre, I have had priming issue with my four stroke brigs walk behind mower where it turned out to be the O ring gasket in the carburetor bulb. Replaced it and it primed like new again.
I'm in your boat Bree, when the unit arrives at my shop it usually has a new primer bulb and a new spark plug in it. So I start with 2 or 3 tests, dribble fuel in the intake, if no start remove plug and check for flooding. If it starts after I dry it out or if it fires on a dribble I test the fuel line at the filter, then test the primer bulb with a vac and pressure pump
This is the third video I watched and she is the only one to discuss other possible issues besides the carburetor, Thanks to Chickanic my weedeater is running like new.
Great video part and great straight forward explanations without fluff. I have to resort to net for all sorts of gear repair so have watched zillions of videos over the years. Your video ranks right up there with some of the best I've seen in terms of clarity, easy to understand and some helpful get it right information. Thank you.
Ugh.....my buddy brought me one of those Troy Bilt 4-strokes you talked about with the 3-port purge bulb. Rotted lines and cracked bulb. Thanks to a bunch of trial and error I finally got it but that was the very reason for watching your video.
I wish I had one for demonstration, but I only saw a very few at my shop. And yes, the fuel ports makes zero sense to me. Why would they even do that? LOL
Just replaced the primer bulb in my 20+ yo FujiRobin blower. Broke into pieces when I pushed it. Walbro carb used the small size bulb which is the same size as the one I had to replace in my 35 yo FujiRobin line trimmer about 5 years ago. Blower is a 4 cycle and the trimmer is a 2 cycle.
Question, when did small engine mechanics stop working on small engines? I decided to take my collection of saws, trimmer, and backpack to be tuned and serviced for the season. All of the local shops told me "No we don't work on that" with the variant of tool or brand being the excuse.
Hi there! Thanks for all the great information and how well you present it. I like to work on small engines and came across a chinese chainsaw branded "Sportsman" that has three tubes on the carburetor, and the third tube is confusing me because I had to replace the lines and did not take a mental picture of where they went. If you think it would be of interest, can you explain the connections on a video? Or help me out with the answer😁😁😁Thanks!
Thank you for another informative and educational video! You have taken so many of the “mysteries” of why an engine won’t start! This is one my favorite channels to watch and subscribe!
Thanks for the heads up on the Depstech scope, was looking for one for the last while and thanks to you was able to pick up a good little unit and save $20 at the same time. Thank you for saving me some money and for the recommendation on the one to buy. Cheers Blitz
Hi chicken, I hope you see this because I was just watching one of your or lawnmower, restorations and you had a carburetor apart and in the carburetor you found that dark brown varnish gooey sticky stuff best thing to clean out with is a half inch paintbrush and lack of thinner you can put that on anything except for plastic or rubber and even if you put it on plastic and rubber and blow it right off it’ll it’ll be OK but you can’t let it sit It will war and destroy the plastic. Good luck. Love you.
Can you explain to me how to hook up the 3 nipple purge bulb? I have inherited a 4 cycle 30 CC craftsman weed wacker. Maybe a picture illustration or video. Thanks Scott
I've seen a few people try to use a cut-off syringe (like _were_ found in my inkjet-printer refill kits) but have wondered if anyone' made a commercial version (with a plunger seal that is compatible with fuel), since it was interesting enough for them to have taken turns 'borrowing' two whole sets of syringes to remake it, even after the seals failed and clogged things up with "ink".
On Echo, I used to cut a round piece of plastic oil bottle, then install that round under the primer retainer, and eliminate the primer. But Echo changed their design so that I had to purchase a primer unit.

My trimmer has a 3 hose purge bulb... but you glossed right over it. :( I can't find any information on how it's supposed to be connected. :(
