Great discussion. US needs to be held responsible for ramping up the conflict in Ukraine, when it should aim to dampen it down. Long term strategic interests into the 21st century are with competing with China.

That is because it is the realist pov. The big critique of realism as a geopolitical theory is that it does not take into account the will of the smaller powers.

And what does Ukrainian people want? PEACE - that is what Zelensky promised them when elected!
Millions of Ukrainians left the country and are not ready to fight this proxy war for US interests !
Many of those who had no chance to go abroad are now hide and many are forced to the battlefield. That's no propaganda but truth as you can hear in serious Western Media reports. My Ukrainian neighbours, run away last summer from Ukraine to Vienna, tell me the same. Ukrainian government is totally dependent on USA, they have no say anymore in what's going on. Inform yourself properly and you will know that Jeffrey Sachs is totally right in what he is saying !

He reflects what Ukrainian people want - peace and not fighting an US proxy war! Millions of Ukrainians who left the country show it, Ukrainian men who hide from prescription and who are forced to the battlefield show it ... Ukraine has a totally on US dependent puppet government which will end war when US tell them to do it !

OK - but Ukraine did the west's (Bush's) bidding in 2008 Bucharest conference and the result was Russia then pushed back against NATO expansion. So, the west now is still responsible for helping Ukraine since it set out an aggressive path. Yes - Russia was arrogant to think it could walk into Ukraine and take over, but Ukraine has to be real about having only 43 million people and no nuclear weapons, while Russia is next door with 144 million people and 5,000 nuclear weapons. Ukraine (and the west) should accept a neutral Ukraine not armed with NATO missiles, and continue the lease of Crimean ports to Russia. Promote western trade into Ukraine - sure - but arm it offensively as part of NATO? Why? So my point is that Ukraine is completely tied into the west's strange aggressive power strategy against Russia - when it doesn't look useful. The coming competition is China vs USA - that's the real tension coming.

As Putin said during his recent speech to the Russian MOFA - "This new political and economic reality now serves as the foundation for the emerging multipolar and multilateral world order, and this is an inevitable process. It reflects the cultural and civilisational diversity that is inherently part of humanity, despite all attempts at artificial unification". For Ukraine to eventually avoid total capitulation and Russian terms of surrender, it would have to achieve an almost impossible reversal on the battlefield and an equally difficult shift in international opinion.

You didn’t use UN Charter, International Law, as well as all the treaties as your foundation to form those conclusions. What are your foundation? Did you respect ruzzia way too much? We are against the Us hegemony. But if the price is all of us are invaded and “annexed” to ruzzia, and China, we would rather had US hegemony to protect us.

Russia will not "conquer" other countries, they just did not want CIAbases in Ukraine on their borders and future US military bases on Ukrainian territory, bc of fear to lose their free access to Black Sea. It's a US proxy war ! And - as Trump rightly said- could end within some days ... That's it !
