    Nice, honest comparisons of these repressing. Ultimately it will come down to each persons rig and ears. About a year and a half ago I bought a 1977 King Records repressing from Japan. Despite all the backlash that Japanese pressings get from 'audiophiles', This sounds wonderful. It is airy with a large soundstage. It's a very detailed pressing and the bass (which Japanese pressings are criticized a lot about) is tight and large. And, it is amazingly quiet. Very, very quiet. Of course, mine is the stereo version, so I would love to try out the Music Matters mono, but I'll probably wait to see if Blue Note's special pressing that is coming is a mono copy. Thanks for your post!

      I hear there is a Japanese mono pressing of some sort that sounds great.

    I own the CD and the vinyl copy and prefer the CD. I feel the resolution is better and yes, it is louder, but CDs normally are louder than vinyl, everything else being equal.

    Bro, appreciate the excellent video! But man, do you realize that when you took out the record on the 75th Anniversary edition, that you had your WHOLE HAND across the entire record!!?? I usually cringe when I see a LOT of you TH-cam guys grabbing the edge between thumb and forefinger, but I've never seen anyone grasp the entire vinyl with their WHOLE HAND! 😲

    Fantastic. I liked the DMM series. You are right about the Blue Note CDs. I have a ton of them…..Go Bucks.

    I liked the RVG comments. You could devote an entire video to that discussion. I don't know that it would be helpful, though. I agree with the Blue Train DMM comments. Some of those DMM releases actually sound pretty good. Nice job. Thanks.

      I have a love/hate relationship with RVG recordings. At the end of the day RVG has the greatest recorded catalog of any Jazz producer. If the classics were recorded at CBS/Columbia, we may not hold many of the records in such high regard due to less character. It would be like if Steve Gadd played on all the Beatles tracks with his near perfect timing. The feel may get lost among the perfection.. Thanks for the comments

    You should get the TPs, I prefer them slightly to the MMJ and Classic, although the MMJ still has the best cover.

    I am glad you were upfront with your comment of the RVG CDs. I am not a fan of them either. The MMJ vinyl pressing is the best I have heard too. Enjoyed your review overall, but your cheat sheet was a bit noisy at times. Look forward to the next review!

      @@daleclark4160 I have the original Ron McMaster cd, which I think better than the RVG remaster, the RVG remaster has too much treble and not much bass

    The Beatles Box looks out of place. It looks more prominent than the Blue Train album. Change the presentation display.

    The DMMs are pretty terrible imo. I've sold all of mine. The French Marconi reissues that predate the DMMs on the other hand can be very good. If your Wally doesn't have his name etched in runout then is it a Wally?

    • @daleclark4160
      @daleclark4160 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many "wally" masterings with "Mastered by capital" as well from what I understand.I believe Discogs says mine is a wally..however, many of those listings can be wrong

      @boogiewoogie9770 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daleclark4160 Perhaps but it would normally say mastered by Wally. There are lots of Capitol etched reissues. Most sound ok.

    I had the CD, I had the french DMM, both sucked big time to me, I hate the DMM Blue Notes. Now I have a Japanese King pressing wich I like a lot. From my experience with Blue Note records ( I have 400+) the best soundings are still the original mono pressings IF you play them with a mono cartridge. And then the bass will kill all the reissues.

    i agree with you, the MM (2014) Mono 33 Rpm is a superb sounding version. But at the end of the day i prefer my stereo 1971 UA label, with RVG stamper in deadwax. Big sound, energy, transparency, presence and immediacy.

    The MMJ 33 is the best and even more the SRX are the best, I doubt the new 2022 will be better than the MMJ.

    HAD A CHANCE TO PURCHASE A NY LABEL FOR 50USD IN EX COND BUT PASSED ON IT. TILL TODAY IM REGRETTING MY FOOLISH DECISION BEST CD VERSION IMHO IS THE RON MCMASTER MASTERED CD. IIRC ITS THE ORIGINAL CD THAT CAME OUT

    • @archifi9978
      @archifi9978  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of those original CDs sound best because many, outside of minor tweaking, were basically flat tranfers.
