This album really grew on me, to the point where it's a strong contender for my favourite album by them. This song and the lost shepherd are just incredible
A lot of people just simply overlook this album. If you get into it, it is one of their best. But you can say that about any album really lol If I HAD to make a top 3 YoTBR would definitely be in it
if you listen to all of the albums in order, it's like going on a journey through them all growing up, you know? i like how they've grown and changed. it kinda goes along with growing up in the amory wars :P
@nunrgtrance2 i love how the drums on this song make it almost sound like a train of deth stomping its way through my eardrums on a track of awesomeness. lol, i do agree about the cymbals though. if it was produced properly, you wouldnt hear it as much, but it is just a demo. it actually sounds more raw and intense than most of the stuff that was actually on the record though.
Worlds are burning out to the endless shame of this mistaken way We wither on and on in this game we play Go ring on the bells of war and head straight into the lion's cage You went and told your secrets here So you can take to the grave cause there is no stopping me, so long Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain Believe in me cause I won't believe in this The end is now starting oh, so please just take your seat and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately Having a nice day while we're swinging from gallows perched atop Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number Spill on through killing fields, the blood of desperate men can change The thirst of a boy who breathes again So you can take to the grave but there is no stopping me Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain Believe in me cause I have been holding you back The end is now starting oh, so please just take your seat and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately Having a nice day while we're swinging from gallows perched atop Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number There is no room for words against them now Cause you're my guiding light, they couldn't make a sound Is there a way to say, to incriminate, oh, listen to me Oh, well baby, open that door So you can take to the grave cause there is no stopping me, so long Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain Believe in me as I won't believe in this The end is now starting oh, so please just take your seat and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately Having a nice day while we're swinging from gallows perched atop Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Halle--
This song is different from the other YOTBR songs, so I get why it didn't make the record. But it's an awesome song and I'm glad it made it's way here anyway. And I think you shouldn't jugde new albums or songs by comparing them to what the band has produced prior to them. I mean, The Color Before The Sun doesn't compare to their previous tone quite much, and I was a little disappointed too when I first heard it and expected another "Coheed" album continuing their previous sound or however you want to call it. But if you step away from that comparison, it's an amazing album, it's just different, but isn't that great? It would be boring if they just kept on doing exactly the same stuff for decades. And while trying out new sounds also means that there's a chance to "fail", it's what developement is about. And after all, the old records will be there as they are forever, no matter what Coheed develops into!
The color before the sun is different because that's when he stopped writing comics. he began to focus more on writing songs about himself and his life as a parent, a husband, and a human living his life altogether. I love all of the albums, but my favorites have to be TCBTS and YOTBR. and I love every stage Claudio and the others have gone through. whether that be the early days of Shabutie, Prize Fighter Inferno, or the present day Coheed that we all know and love.
They really are...have been listening to them for use, but more specifically, I've been listening to them basically nonstop on Spotify since mid OCTOBER...just started reading Year of the Black Rainbow novel today, half way done I cannot put it down! AMAZING
I know its overedited and all but is still a solid album. And listening to this album really shows a new side of Claudio lyric wise. I love The Afterman that album truly shows Claudio at his best but you have to remember if it wasn't for this album there wouldn't have been an Afterman. I know people say this album but I still feel like it shows some evolution for Claudio.
OH MY GOOOOOOD!!! I'm getting the Shabütie vibe once again!!! Especially when Claudio says "swinging from gallows perched atop" in the chorus. FUCKING LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you, it's nice listening all the albums in order and seeing how they have evolved as musicians. Comparing Second Stage and Afterman (as their first and last work) is interesting. When someone asks me what album they should listen to first, I tell them to listen them all in order, to see how they have changed and grown. Sorry if I made mistakes, my English sucks XD
@Dunnerski Yes, they do touch on prog-metal sometimes. They aren't Opeth or Dream Theater, but still. They are prog-rock with metal tendencies I guess if that helps you sleep at night. Not insane metal, but you get it. Believe it or not, metal never used to be 2 minutes of sweep arpeggios and tapping solos at 320 bpm.
@Lanakikuta Yes, they're finishing up a handful of tours in Mexico and I thinkkkk South America, and are also in the process of writing new album material and a compilations album with covers. Why would you question the longevity of this band? The band makes a living because of people like you and I, my friend. They're not leaving for a long time. :)
I think if they cleaned the drums during the chorus and a few other things, this would have been one of the best songs in the album. The cymbal crash is just too dominant in the chorus for me to the point it's hard to hear anything
Honestly, the fault lies entirely with the producers. Coheed and Cambria's first three albums were mixed by Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner, and those are the three most popular albums they've released, and in my opinion, they're the best. Year of the Black Rainbow on the other hand was produced by Atticus Ross and Joe Barresi. Neither of them had any experience with mixing Coheed's sound, and neither of them ever mixed another album of theirs after this, and it's very apparent just by listening to this album. The mix is so god damn sloppy. Why the hell are the cymbals louder than the guitar? It's the same cymbal crash over and over again - they didn't think it'd be irritating to hear that nonstop for a whole minute? Thank God they never touched another Coheed album. Their music has certainly benefited from avoiding them.
@Winstonsicle You probably just haven't listened to it enough. When I first heard it I thought the songs were too muddy and drowned with effects. But after a thorough listening I learned too love it along with everything else.
wat all you need to understand about this and shepards sound quality is that these were recorded on a home set up, not in the studio with atticus or joe, hence demos....on the note on the album, the effects were alittle over done but above all i love it.......no coheed record sounds alike and this just takes that statement even further. no one could say second stage and IKSSE3 have a similar sound or good apollo I and NWFT have similar sounds.....so just try and open up to their progression
Well, i got addicted to this album after a week of listening haha Hmm this album is more of an all around nice listen which i couldn't say for the prior two. I listen to all the songs equally (well besides one and the year of the black rainbow) unlike 3-4 i focused on with GA:IV and NWFT
@raketen86 I would say most of their Good Apollo 1 album could be considered progressive metal, Welcome Home, The Writing Writer, the entire Willing Well series, there are some ballads and inbetweeners, but I would argue that album, as well as selective other numbers from across their discography (i.e. In Keeping Secrets, Delirium Trigger, No World For Tomorrow, etc.) could be not only considered metal but progressive metal, as well.
@ScottXC91 i dunno lol, i think it's meant to be wilhelm ryan's voice. no idea what it's saying though. i hope they keep the "hallelujah" part at the end.
Why do some people choose to become the living embodiment of the trope "They Changed it Now it Sucks"? So YOTBR had a different sound. Don't like it, just skip it. I happened to really enjoy the album on its own merits without constantly having to compare it to NWFT or Good Apollo. Tracks like "Here We Are Juggernaut", "World of Lines", and "Where Skeletons Live" were fantastic pieces of pure prog-rock goodness.
I mean, the Afterman also has a bunch of prog tracks over it, Domino, The Afterman, Evagalia, Gravity's Union (my personal favorite of theirs) that were all better than YotBR. I'm just now discovering these demos and they are all better than the majority of that album. In The Flame Of Error and Far are 2 of my favorite Coheed songs so I know it's not all bad, but I really see why this album is disliked.
@BowbuttSmiff It's all about the coherence of the album. This song sounds different than the rest of the album. That's the whole point, to have the album tell a story. Remember the book that got released with the deluxe album? Claudio even said himself that he write it in the same world as the rest of the album, along with The Lost Shepherd. Besides, the producer is amazing. He produced such awesome bands as Queen, and I think he did a pretty good job on this album. As long as the band's happy.
@caxe7 aw i got excited cause i thought we had the same favorite song haha i liked fuel for the feeding end , its epic throughout yea, even their pop isnt too poppy but i admit , i do miss those kind of songs because they've taken up a really prog rock route just bass, guitars, drums, and vocals were fine and awesome ..now sometimes their music seems to try to do too much at one time
@3SirCrimson3 it stands as one of my favourite songs on the album, even though one: it wasn't on the main album and two: it wasn't even mastered. this would probably be one of my favourite coheed song if this was mastered.
letra: Worlds are burning out to the endless shame of this mistaken way We wither on and on in this game we play Go ring on the bells of war and head straight into the lion's cage You went and told your secrets here So you can take to the grave Cause there is no stopping me, so long Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain Believe in me cause I won't believe in this The end is now starting Oh, so please just take your seat And live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately Having a nice day while we're Swinging from gallows perched atop Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number Spill on through killing fields, the blood of desperate men can change The thirst of a boy who breathes again So you can take to the grave But there is no stopping me Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain Believe in me cause I have been holding you back The end is now starting Oh, so please just take your seat And live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately Having a nice day while we're Swinging from gallows perched atop Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number There is no room for words against them now Cause you're my guiding light, they couldn't make a sound Is there a way to say, to incriminate, oh, listen to me Oh, well baby, open that door So you can take to the grave Cause there is no stopping me, so long Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain Believe in me as I won't believe in this The end is now starting Oh, so please just take your seat And live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately Having a nice day while we're Swinging from gallows perched atop Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number
u gotta luv the "ooh"s & "hallelujah"s starting @ 3:37. i know i do. lol. i pretty much luv this whole song. Coheed & Cambria are pretty much my favorite band right now. it's because of songs like this 1 that give them potential 2 lead a legacy older prog rock bands now lead. such as Kansas, Styx, Pink Floyd, Rush, Queensrÿche & Tool. just 2 name a few random examples. \m/
@Tandaro Like I said, the way we think of metal today is not how it started. Most of Coheed's influences are metal or hard rock to begin with. They love heavy metal(especially Iron Maiden), so don't think it's offensive to them to consider their music to have metal tendencies. They'd agree wholeheartedly. I never said that they do death vocals with 80 million notes per second. You guys reading this comment and taking it the wrong way. Coheed is not metal all the time, but they do touch on it.
@a7xmetalhead713 well i cycle between them when i'm in my car..well not really NWFT, but it's all personal preference when it gets down to it anyway i just wish i there was a cd with all the songs so i dont have to keep switching them out :P
@Apocol0id i agree completely im currently overseas and for somereason i started to like these guys so i went to the store and yotbr was the only album they had i picked it up and was fairly disappointed by it ive got good apollo vol1 since and i must say i like that, second stage, and no world for tomorrow much more, mother superior melts my brain with its awsomeness :0, however i did notice that the reason i didnt like yotbr was it was over produced, seems to be a trend for example
You know, this is kind of irrelevant to the song but Claudio is a really nice guy in person. He's a bit shy and is easily startled lol or at least he was in my case but he's a pretty cool guy :) Also this is a pretty cool song made of absolute WIN
most bands have this trend due to the fact that most metal/rock labels allow bands to do their own thing for the first few years of their contract and then they have to follow the influence of the label for what the executives think will sell on the second leg of the contract
@cursedreject i know what you mean.....i really love there songs like Iksose3, cuts marked in the march of men, From fear through the eyes of madness *my fav song btw* but i do like running free.....and radio bye bye occasionaly.. if they went to pop music i would be pretty pissed but....it would be the only pop band i would listen to if that means anything Basically i prefer there more opera like songs...but i do like most of there music as a whole
I believe everything on the album is how they meant it to be. When Skeletons Live isnt bad quality, i actually thought it was one of the better songs on the album. It sounds raw to me and if you want a sound from before SSTB you would be looking for a raw sound
@caxe7 thats one of the more epic songs imo cause you get a feel of the whole atmosphere in an almost operatic way the poppy songs, i wouldn't consider epic because pop is hardly epic
@cursedreject lolz, i kinda agree.I love YOTBR but...i know they want to progress and all that but..i wish the song had more of the feeling Iksose3 or Good apollo had.. i mean take Guns of summer for ex *1 of my fav YOTBR songs btw * the sound is epic, but they could of done less to his voice..and left some of the robotic sound they gave it out/ I was hoping for more of there SSTB sound since its a prequel, but like i said i still love the album just...i miss there old stuff .
@morbidangel9197 Actually, black metal involves a lot of atmosphere and feeling it's all just wasted on being entirely dark and satanic for the sake of being dark and satanic. It's actually more comedic than anything. Most of it is actually not that complex. Prog-metal sometimes dwells on being entirely complex, though. Sometimes it completely misses the atmosphere and feeling for the sake of complexity. It can sometimes be comedic as well, but not as much.
I agree completely with you all. It seems like Atticus really held dictatorship over the guys. I mean, if the band had most of the say and the record didn't do so well, then you could say it was their call, but this is freaking tasty! Effort was still put forth, and it WAS something new, so I can't complain, honestly. It's just... Sad.
Oh I totally agree, but I think this album was sort of a spring board for what works and what doesn't. Sort of a troubleshooting musically. I mean that in the most respectful way possible.
@caxe7 YES exactly! haha i was thinking , it would make more sense to dumb down the effects because it is a prequel afterall so its pregrowth but i guess its hard to pull off when you evolved so much musically and emotionally. yeah NWFT sounded really clean in comparsion. YOTBR seems like underdone and underpolished. a lot going on. no offense but i think its partly due to pennie. he's a great drummer yes but it takes over the song sometimes unless eppards.
sounds so fuckin sweet. literally blows my fuckin mind. i like when claudio sounds pissed off, he doesnt do it like this often. coheed truely has metal elements. think about old metal though. they are heavier then any classic metal bands who are still considered metal bands. such as iron maiden which they cover. they are truely the best unique band of all time in my opinion though.
@YouKilledAlan I wasn't I was trying to say that sometimes they have progressive elements and they obviously are mostly metal. I wasn't simply dropping them into one genre.
This album really grew on me, to the point where it's a strong contender for my favourite album by them. This song and the lost shepherd are just incredible
Better than In Living Secrets?
*keeping. Forgive my drunk ass.
A lot of people just simply overlook this album. If you get into it, it is one of their best. But you can say that about any album really lol If I HAD to make a top 3 YoTBR would definitely be in it
This is better than half the songs that made it on the record.
I personally love that the quality is a tad rough. Idk, it brings a certain charm.
if you listen to all of the albums in order, it's like going on a journey through them all growing up, you know? i like how they've grown and changed. it kinda goes along with growing up in the amory wars :P
This song should have been on the album, love the chorus. Brilliant song, just like the rest of the album
This song really should have been on the album. I'd love to hear this live.
Worlds are burning out to the endless shame of this mistaken way
We wither on and on in this game we play
Go ring on the bells of war and head straight into the lion's cage
You went and told your secrets here
So you can take to the grave
cause there is no stopping me, so long
Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain
Believe in me cause I won't believe in this
The end is now starting
oh, so please just take your seat
and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately
Having a nice day while we're
swinging from gallows perched atop
Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number
Spill on through killing fields, the blood of desperate men can change
The thirst of a boy who breathes again
So you can take to the grave
but there is no stopping me
Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain
Believe in me cause I have been holding you back
The end is now starting
oh, so please just take your seat
and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately
Having a nice day while we're
swinging from gallows perched atop
Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number
There is no room for words against them now
Cause you're my guiding light, they couldn't make a sound
Is there a way to say, to incriminate, oh, listen to me
Oh, well baby, open that door
So you can take to the grave
cause there is no stopping me, so long
Lungs hang in this dead man's curtain
Believe in me as I won't believe in this
The end is now starting
oh, so please just take your seat
and live your last moments waving goodbye, desperately
Having a nice day while we're
swinging from gallows perched atop
Fool sit still, watch them, please take your number
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Halle--
This song is a sponge that soaks up the awesomeness of Coheed & Cambria's musicians and bleeds it into my ears.
I really got to research Amory Wars.
Its fucking GOOOOOOOOD
Should've been mastered and included on the album. It's phenomenal.
Sing it Claudio! I love the vocals on this track. And props to each band member including Claudio.
This song is different from the other YOTBR songs, so I get why it didn't make the record. But it's an awesome song and I'm glad it made it's way here anyway.
And I think you shouldn't jugde new albums or songs by comparing them to what the band has produced prior to them. This album is incredible. Some of Claudio's greatest riffs ever, and fantastic lyrics. I will never understand the hate.
Love these demos and really want just the deluxe CD but I can't find any being sold online (unless it's the whole collection for 150+)
They really are...have been listening to them for use, but more specifically, I've been listening to them basically nonstop on Spotify since mid OCTOBER...just started reading Year of the Black Rainbow novel today, half way done I cannot put it down! AMAZING
I actually kinda forgot about this song... and I'm so pumped because now it's still pretty fresh.
Something about this just reminds me of Barracuda by Heart... Love it to bits still.
This song makes me feel like I'm a tiny stone skipping across a turbulent sea of awesomeness.
I know its overedited and all but is still a solid album. And listening to this album really shows a new side of Claudio lyric wise. @BowbuttSmiff "the worlds are burning up" gave me goosebumps... I think it was the most epic moment on the album!
@YouKilledAlan Co&Ca is a metal band with progressive elements (among others). they really don't kow what they are at times, which is why I like them.

i love the end. hallelujah hallelujah..then it just cuts out..so awesome!
I found them through Rockband so worth it, My favorite song on that game.
I think if they cleaned the drums during the chorus and a few other things, this would have been one of the best songs in the album. The cymbal crash is just too dominant in the chorus for me to the point it's hard to hear anything

Tied with IKSSE3 for favorite song of all time. I never thought that was humanly possible.
@caxe7 aw i got excited cause i thought we had the same favorite song haha
i liked fuel for the feeding end , its epic throughout

@Lanakikuta It's "Amory Wars" btw...
Can´t see why they let these out? I wouldn´t have minded with a 15 track album, when the quality is this high
Hey, Claudio, your blues influence is showing :D
@OneOfTheFire Doubt that's going to happen. It was just one of the songs from the new album that didn't quite make the cut, so here it is.
LOVE THIS SONG!
this is amazing
@BowbuttSmiff its on the deluxe edition
@3SirCrimson3 it stands as one of my favourite songs on the album, even though one: it wasn't on the main album and two: it wasn't even mastered.
this would probably be one of my favourite coheed song if this was mastered.

Does anyone know of any other versions of this song? For example, finished version, live version, anything?
I'm pretty sure this is all we get
CatalystEXE 😭
This track is great. With a solid mix it would be one of the best on the record.
@Ketastep Totally agree but I laughed at the fact that you used the word 'bards'. lol
This is gold
@Apocol0id The sound effects ARE actually part of the song y'know. And i think they're great, especially the start
@a7xmetalhead713 well i cycle between them when i'm in my car..well not really NWFT, but it's all personal preference when it gets down to it anyway
i just wish i there was a cd with all the songs so i dont have to keep switching them out :P
This goes so hard. wow
@beespiders haha i was disappointed when it wasn't in the cd/dvd case
omg i love this on first listen.... this one escaped me lol
this song is fucking amazing
this song is fucking perfect, cant wait til the book comes in the post
You know, this is kind of irrelevant to the song but Claudio is a really nice guy in person. He's a bit shy and is easily startled lol or at least he was in my case but he's a pretty cool guy :) Also this is a pretty cool song made of absolute WIN
most bands have this trend due to the fact that most metal/rock labels allow bands to do their own thing for the first few years of their contract and then they have to follow the influence of the label for what the executives think will sell on the second leg of the contract
@Bareno91 Exactly what I was fucking thinking, this song kicks-ass.
It's on the deluxe edition.
Those Chris pennie drums come out strong on this one.
@cursedreject
i know what you mean.....i really love there songs like Iksose3, cuts marked in the march of men, From fear through the eyes of madness *my fav song btw* but i do like running free.....and radio bye bye occasionaly.. if they went to pop music i would be pretty pissed but....it would be the only pop band i would listen to if that means anything
Basically i prefer there more opera like songs...but i do like most of there music as a whole
this is one my favorites
basically because of the chours
Swinging from gallows...
I believe everything on the album is how they meant it to be. When Skeletons Live isnt bad quality, i actually thought it was one of the better songs on the album. It sounds raw to me and if you want a sound from before SSTB you would be looking for a raw sound
@OneOfTheFire What do you mean you hope they keep it?
sweet song! too bad it got cut. whole new dynamic chris on drums hes the man.
damn shame that this didnt end up on the final record. easily would have been one of the top three songs on it if it had been included.
This song has a good creepy feel especially near the end.
Was anyone else expecting one final crash after the epic drum roll at the end? I was waiting for it for like 5 minutes.
@caxe7 thats one of the more epic songs imo
cause you get a feel of the whole atmosphere in an almost operatic way
the poppy songs, i wouldn't consider epic because pop is hardly epic
@lobatkia you cant download this any were! I couldnt find it but if tou can message me
@cursedreject lolz,
i kinda agree.I love YOTBR but...i know they want to progress and all that but..i wish the song had more of the feeling Iksose3 or Good apollo had.. i mean take Guns of summer for ex *1 of my fav YOTBR songs btw * the sound is epic, but they could of done less to his voice..and left some of the robotic sound they gave it out/ I was hoping for more of there SSTB sound since its a prequel, but like i said i still love the album just...i miss there old stuff .
This should've been more than a demo!
Yea, kind of. Guns of Summer was actually the main one I had a big issue on the album
Why the (redacted) would you cut this from the album??
And you are probably better than 99% of the people in the heart !
Fucking love this song!
i have the cd but i never heard this song??
@ScottXC91 nah i mean if they remaster it i hope they don't cut it or anything
@caxe7 YES exactly! haha i was thinking , it would make more sense to dumb down the effects because it is a prequel afterall so its pregrowth but i guess its hard to pull off when you evolved so much musically and emotionally. yeah NWFT sounded really clean in comparsion. YOTBR seems like underdone and underpolished. a lot going on. no offense but i think its partly due to pennie. he's a great drummer yes but it takes over the song sometimes unless eppards.
Where can i buy YOTBR i can't find it anywhere
sounds so fuckin sweet. literally blows my fuckin mind. i like when claudio sounds pissed off, he doesnt do it like this often. coheed truely has metal elements. think about old metal though. they are heavier then any classic metal bands who are still considered metal bands. such as iron maiden which they cover. they are truely the best unique band of all time in my opinion though.
The intro is a sped up segment of Better Than Evil.
@YouKilledAlan I wasn't I was trying to say that sometimes they have progressive elements and they obviously are mostly metal. I wasn't simply dropping them into one genre.
@BowbuttSmiff it's called marketing. and it worked.
@nmbcfanatic btw nice icon haha
