- I got the Sony ZV-E1 after preordering and shot this quick VLOG to test it out. I discuss how to prevent the Sony ZV-E1 from overheating. In my use the Sony ZV-E1 did not overheat on me at all, but just incase it does, I share some tips to keep the Sony ZV-E1 from overheating.

FYI - when I installed the Sony ECM-G1 Mic, the camera actually didn't detect the mic right away so it kept using the built-in mic of the camera. The ECM-G1 audio is not on until the part when I'm on the ladder through the end of the video.

Vu you're the man bro! haha I bought my ZV-E1 last week and arrived couple days ago. Yet to really test it out but I do moto vlogs and I needed a quality camera to fit in my riding backpack. The only thing that concerns me is dust and moisture. Apart from that I'll keep it out of the elements as much as I can. Love the videos bro! LET ME SHOW YOU!!!!!!!

Here's a tip, take a sweatband and put it around the lens where it mounts to the camera. That will help with dust getting on to the sensor. I do this with all of my Sony cameras.

I record my skateboarding sessions which usually last between 3 and 4 hours and what I’m actually recording is just short 30 second or so clips of each run I take the camera is on the whole time but the clips are just short. The vibes I’m getting is that bit should be able to handle it ok in an average temperature of around 22 degrees C , what do you think?
At the moment I use an A6400 and can only get 4k 25 from it which has nev er overheated on me.
But I would want to be recording 4k 120 the whole time with the ZVE1 so I can make slow motion clips of everything.

Thanks for the vid Vu, overheating is the only thing stopping me on buying the ZVe1. I have taken my A7siii on multple trips and I found that it's just not as enjoyable bringing that thing all the time. ZV e1 seems perfect for getting professional/cinematic results on a travel friendly package. I'll definitely get one. PS: I'm Asian as well and I know what you're talking about hahaha

Fantastic video as always ! question, have you found that when it gets hot, dead/hotpixeles start to show up ? I recently took it to Florida I never had a problem with overheating but on most of my shots I have between 1 and 4 hot pixels show up so frustrating it makes low light shots unusable with a white dot in the middle of the image.

When filming full HD, at a temperature of 30 degrees, does the Sony ZV-E1 camera overheat? Or is the problem only with 4K filming? I can give up 4K, but I may need to film outside when it's over 30 degrees.

Sorry to hear about your wedding inquiries. I’m in Virginia market too and while I’ve been getting gigs I’ve had to lower pricing as it seems like a lot of couples have been spending less money on weddings with the way things are. I don’t blame them one bit. I also supplement by contracting with another company and that keeps things busier (pay is not too bad for freelance work without having to edit)
I'm staying put with pricing as I do not have capacity to be taking on bulk weddings at lower pricing. I also spend way too much time on preparing, filming, and editing each film. But at the end of the day you gotta do what you gotta do.

Great review! And I actually didn’t notice when you switched to 1080. Mine arrived yesterday. Batteries are charging now then I will go test it. I got it to replace my Blackmagic 4K I use for my music videos and my a6400 I use for youtube. With how I shoot in spurts including the music videos I don’t think the over heating will be an issue. thought it would be the perfect blend of the two so I only have 1 smaller All around set up. Can you teach me your ways?? so I’m not the douche bag relying on auto 😂😂😂😂 like best settings & color profile etc.

Forgot where I found that info. But I believe it was when I was researching how to help GoPro not overheat. Same way how DJI created a casing for the DJI Action 2 to help overheating.

Hi Vu! Longtime subscriber, thank you for all that you do and providing so much value to the photo/video community. I had a quick question to ask if you don't mind. My A7IV 1080p footage is terrible when it is not used in the crop mode. After watching your 1080p video comparison with the FX3/FX30 and A7IV it was a huge eye opener. My question is, does the ZV-E1 use the same process of down sampling the 4K sensor to 1080p like the FX3 and A7S3? Your switch from 4K to 1080p was great in this video. Will this overheat in 4k24 and 4k30? If not than for me this has no overheating issues. I only film 4k120 for bits and pieces for slowmotion shots.

Are you using a V90 SD card? Overheating occurs much faster with any camera when slow SD cards are used and the processor writes and reads for a longer time.

I want to use one as a b-cam to record hour long sets of bands playing. I have an FX3 and FS5 that will run forever. I just wish I could trust this camera will make it through an hour + at 4k24p.

I never had it overheat. Check your settings and have heat threshold set to high

I actually got the same thing, first time opening the camera, adjusting the settings to 10bit and 4k sdxc (or something) just dialing in some buttons and allready got the overheating error. Its about 23 c here rn in the living room. I’ve just set the temp to high so will test tomorrow but i dunno if i like how hot it got allready so fast?!

Personally I ended up canceling my order for the ZV-E1 and ended up getting the FX30 because I feel I can grow more with this camera and also use it for client work when the time comes. So yeah I agree it is targeted to entry-level vloggers who want to create quality content. Saying that, content creators should also think about lighting and how to work with it, in my opinion if you have trash lighting, you have trash content... maybe you should put out an e-book on that... only $29.99!

Can you try a dummy battery with external power by power bank? Because I don't see any yet and my zv-1 suffer overheating but with dummy battery can record during hours without problem!
Honestly it's the battery that probably creates most heat

sony overheating is when the camera is on. makes no difference if youre recording or on standby/menu. if you set 4k120 and go on the menu, without recording, it will overheat in 5min or so.
Can you use this for professional music videos

For long sessions of video shooting, you can use coolers for phones with a magnetic mount. These devices use electronic Peltier cooling. They come in different sizes. The cost of such devices is low. Just as an example th-cam.com/video/MTh44Z6N9zY/w-d-xo.html

Why would I want to fix Sony's problems, and still be risky?
It's up to Sony to put a $2 cooling fan in every FF model they make, (Canon too)
If little-ole Lumix can do it on their cheaper 'full frames' then they deserve the "reliability accolades"

@@nVuFilms You have good point in this, but the x version of the new lumix does have 4K60p 4:2:2 10-Bit, even in C4k, and even at 800mb/sec / internal and unlimited, which is Proper cinema specs. I just think it's time for Sony / Canon to fix this damn heating issue which we had since the A7ii era.
@@photogenic2010 Sony a7siii, A1, a7RV, Fx3, fx30... All does not overheat. So Sony doesn't have an overheating problem that you speak of
The zv-e1 was designed to be compact and used for light filming of b-rolls and 4k24 talking head shots on the go vlogging. Sure it may overheat under harsh conditions but understandably so considering it's small size.
You also don't need a fan to not overheat. A7SIII has no fans. Does 4k60 in full frame and has virtually no rolling shutter. It doesn't overheat.
