Sony ZV E1 vs ZV E10 Vlogging YouTube Camera Comparison

  • Sony recently came out with a new vlogging camera, the ZV-E1. Previously, one of the best youtube cameras for the money was the ZV-E10. Is this new camera better enough to make up for the fact that it's $1500 more expensive? Or are the enhancements just not worth it?

    The ZV-E10 is the sweet spot between the limitations of the ZV-1 series, and the large price and larger size of ZV-E1 and FF lenses. Very happy with the APS-C camera. We don't have to have the top of the line camera to get all the creative juices flowing. Keeping it simple and a bit less weight makes for a lot more fun, and a lot more productivity.

    This may be a long post but here we go. I came across your video 'how to post a youtube video' from 6 months back...this is all the while setting up all my existing lighting and kit in my garage whilst trying to get more tips and motivation to start actually filming my own content and ill start by saying that your progress since that video (in JUST 6 months) in terms of overall confidence in front of the camera is literally chalk and cheese!
    I'm where you were 6 months ago where i feel and look far less natural and that's actually made me feel WAY more comfortable with taking this dive into youtube than i had previously felt.
    I hope you don't see that as a negative by the way as i personally feel that 6 months is nothing when i see how much you've improved in front of the camera. I'm glad to see your still making content with just over 1.3k subs as I've sadly come across many 10k or less channels that you can clearly see just gave up at some point.
    Please don't stop - its smaller channels like yours that keep me motivated to push on and finally put out a 'first' video (at least a talking headshot style one) so thank you and subbed from me :)

    Great video and this has really helped me in my search for which camera I should go for. I currently own the Sony A5000 camera and I've had it for over 5 years and I am ready for something better. I am a small content creator but enjoy taking nice photos as well, but don't want to spend a ton of money if I don't have to. One thing that I do like about the Sony ZV-E1 is the newer sensor and battery which is nice, versus the ZV-E10 which is using the older sensor and battery. It's a tough decision in terms of which one I will get because I want something that would be perfect to take on vacation for photos, but will still work for when I am filming content at home, and using it as a webcam.

  • @MinnieOnCam
    @MinnieOnCam ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is a really good comparison video. For me the winner is Sony-E10 because of the budget and I'm not a pro at video or vlogging. The design looks lighter then my Canon SL2 so it might be a nice upgrade for me. Have you compared any of the point n shoots in the ZV line up?

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      I haven’t taken the time to look at point and shoots yet, I plan to take a look at the Zv-1, but the Zv-1f is maybe too small of a sensor to consider. I think you’d really get equal or better performance just out of an iPhone than from that camera.

  • @ScottJWaldron
    @ScottJWaldron ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Great job on the comparison. I'd say there is some overlap with vloggers and streamers. It's too bad Sony didn't figure out the E1's thermal management better in regard to tasks like streaming, at least from tests I saw in Gerald Undone's ZV-E1 video. Though, I think he only tested long continuous recordings at 4k and not 1080p so maybe it could manage that use case. One thing I know is that the A6000 I have and use it for streaming has been a tank. 😄 I run it for at least 3.5 continuous hours at 1080p30 in HDMI out mode every week with online D&D sessions. Picked that one up locally on discount before shortages happened and that model was likely getting discontinued (then they started selling it again, lol).

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the overheating thing is definitely going to be this cameras downfall. Because without the overheating, theres ALMOST no reason to buy an a7siii anymore, because this IS an a7siii with less buttons and more features. At my studio, I just blow a large, almost silent, 8" inline fan on it from the side and the issue goes away, but having to solve it for them that way is not the way it should be. Plastic just cant dissipate heat like magnesium alloy. I get they wanted it to be waterproof for bloggers, so they couldn't add a fan - but maybe something like the back behind the screen has a copper plate or something to transfer the heat away.

  • @pipp33
    @pipp33 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the ZV-E10 and like it…but looking at this comparison it almost looks like the ZV-E10 was in 1080p mode. Especially looking at his eyes in some of the closer shots.

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I actually left both of these the way they came out of the camera shooting with HLG3 and the color temp set in the camera to the same thing that my lights SAY theyre set at. I probably should have talked about those things since I made such a specific effort not to correct it in final cut.

      I agree when you look closely side by side. And for some reason, even though with a 100% zoom they're both perfectly clear - there's something about the E1 that looks.... more premium? That I can't really put my finger on. Except at 85mm they both look flawless.

    Hi I'm looking at getting the Sony ZV E10 & watched a previous video of yours with 4 options of the best way to set up. I am a small youtuber looking to make better shot content but I am versatile in the content I make. I will want to shoot stuff up close like your B-roll bit but also from 10 to 20 if not more ft to shoot lightsabers in light & dark. AT THE MOMENT I KNOW NOTHING about photography - is there a lense that will fit all of those? Do I absolutely need one for that? If there isn't one that does a job of more than 1 would you choose set up 2 or 3 for the set up you had in your other video? I feel 4 might be too far? - Thank you for your time.

    Sony's coming out 3-5 cameras a year. I got a7iv as A cam and zv-e10 as B-cam. The images of the newer ones aren't better, so I am gonna wait a couple more years to see how fast their tech will have evolved by then.

    • @NicholasJamesJohnson
      @NicholasJamesJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Im pretty sure that the actual image quality is close to maxed out with the current generation of cameras. Your A7IV makes an absolutely stunning 4k video. Going forward, theyre going to add more and more of these smart-phone-like features, Im guessing. Improving autofocus even more, tracking people, remembering faces, and probably doing processing in the cameras. I also have an a7iv, and I cant see that camera ever becoming irrelevant for making videos like the ones I make.

    Great review, thank you. MY biggest problem with Sony is the WAD (Weight Adding Division). As everyone knows, every Sony lens must pass severe scrutiny from WAD. So Sony engineers develop an AMAZING lens. 12-1200mm, weighs 50 grams. Then they go to the WAD committee. And the people on WAD committee say, NOOOO... wait, they all speak Japanese so they say EEEEYYEE... that's "NO" in Japanese.... eeeye, we don't like zis lens. Add two kilograms of tungsteen scrap to it and a kilogram of enriched Uranium. And fill it with epoxy so that the scrap doesn't rattle. Now it weighs 30 kilograms and can break the user's foot if he drops it even wearing construction boots. NOW that's more like it. Put it on sale for 5,000 Hiroshima bombers dollars.
    Don't believe me? Go ahead, compare like-for-like ANY lens from Nikon, Canon,Sigma, Tamron, Chengweichaichang, Changchengweichai, Weichai... you get the idea. And you will see that Sony lenses are invariably HEAVIER. To the point of RIDICULOUSness.
    Must be!

      @NicholasJamesJohnson  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      BUT WAIT! The very new 70-200 G master II is literally like half of the weight of its predecessor. They were just playing the long game for the past several decades so that they could sell us updates NOW that are the pre-uranium lens weights..

      There are many reasons to take the E1 over the FX30. Kind of your same lens concept for one. If someone already has all FF lenses, why would they purchase the FX30 and new apsc lenses? Also the FF censor is much cleaner than the crop censor in the FX30. Actually other Super 35 platforms (such as the BM6k) are much cleaner than the FX30.
