I think a 15-20 min video on the 308 every few weeks is the way to go, with a mix of Audi/Model A/E36 content depending on what you're working on. I've really enjoyed the out of shop videos too like the Pikes Peak testing or Amir's NSX. I now realise I love everything you do so I'm gonna be watching no matter what!

I love how you started off by calling out the complainers because it is true that most of them don't understand and will not have done a build themselves before. Personally I love all of this content and I both admire and appreciate the creative thought that goes into some of the solutions. That spring on the push-pin was so elegant in its simplicity yet totally fit for purpose. In this age of instant gratification where a 2 year build is expected to be summarized in 5 mins, I like seeing the grind and following the process. From the perspective of the viewer it takes commitment but I believe that people who take the time to create this content deserve the respect of dedicating personal time to enjoy it. Keep it up your formula works great for me and I truly appreciate the diversion whenever a new video is posted.

Re: the last 10%, I think it's mostly psychological. I've run into the same problem on my builds where you step back after a days work and nothing has really changed. This is a good time to make a windshield list of projects that you can knock out one by one and give yourself the visual gratification of striking another item off the list. I like that you discuss the hardship of the last 10% as I think that is when most unfinished builds fail and equally important, finding the motivation to power through.

im excited to see the small stuff. In general i love how you show us what goes into a project like this and that not all of it is exciting. but i understand that filming everything is a ton of work, so if you just wanna get done with smaller things, im happy to not have fancy documentation and you just showing us what you did in between episodes.
Keep up the grind, this car is amazing

I think you’re close to a perfect balance Mike. You don’t show things twice, you summarize and piece together an interesting montage of a section of the build. Been here for a lot (rewound to the start) and now watch all your content. Show us everything, we’ve been along for the ride.

Yes, please keep making as many K24 GTB videos as possible. I realize this will vary for different people, but personally, the last 10% is my favorite part. At the early stages, you make a lot of progress, but a lot of that is tearing things apart, fixing problems, and by the end of each episode, the car is largely incomplete, even if the project for that day is done. The last 10%, by contrast, is polishing a car that is nearly a car again, with each bit the goal becomes close enough to almost reach out and grab it. Completing a job changes from, "Well, I hope that works." to "Let's power this on, pressurize the system, test the suspension on the ground, drive it around the block, etc." resulting in a tangible outcome, and a gratifying list-item crossed off the final countdown. It's really good to see things worked out in practice, and to go that final distance along with you.

  • @neovenom9833

    You are doing great.
One of the things I like about your channel is, you don't go with the flow like many YT'ers do (Everyone doing a "insert car here" at the same time), you go with what you want to achieve.
    And that deserves respect.

  • @ZHF0rd

It tends to be in the “boring” details where I learn the most. I agree with the majority, the episodes like this with a few little things combined into one episode are great. Even if you keep the camera work simple to save time setting up the shots and focus on the dialogue, I think the content can stay meaningful with your effort focused more on the project itself.

It means a lot to me especially.

Totally relatable and commendable that you refuse to compromise your standards. Doing those brackets that no one else will see over again clearly shows your passion. I now how bad it must have sucked when realised that you had to do order a new set and then, on top of that, pick up the tools again when the dimple wasn't the direction you where going for. I truly enjoy the content and am grateful for being able to follow the process. Keep it up!

Mike the oil outlet from the turbo has to be in an always downward slope, otherwise the oil will pool up. You have the drain from the turbo making a U shape, I don't think it'll work well in that configuration... I believe you would be able to work out a smaller container to mount bellow the turbo, and you probably wont need a sump that big...

Fortunately for me, my project car was running and driving for the last 10%. Helps the motivation to be able to blow off some steam. Also these projects are always trial and error so it’s nice to see what little problems pop up during driving r&d before going all the way with paint. Cause no one likes cutting off fresh paint to make missed changes.
Love the build can’t wait to see you knock it out!

Mike man, do what you feel is right. I found you at the start of this build (Honda guy), I'm watching all your content, E36, model A etc. So far it seems natural & flowing how you have deviated & we've witnessed your motivation ebb & flow. Dude, as much as you're bringing all of us along for this 308 project (and others) it's really good to hear your personal opinion at the different stages of the build and also still include the little nuances and mistakes/mishaps that are made. I've enjoyed every episode to this point and guaranteed it'll be the same for future ones, whether you choose to space them out time-wise or simply release shorter eps.

I'm not sure why you're selling the details short -- it's the difference between a car that works and doesn't work. I love it. It's also worth mentioning that the care you take in scripting and editing your videos would make heating up a lean cuisine entertaining to watch. Great work, keep doing this stuff and show us the whole process.

The 308 is coming along. In this segment, I liked how you had the Audi in the background of one of the shots. It was a reminder of what is coming up next. I can't wait to see this project done. It's not a boring episode, the little details show how unique this project is and shows the amount of work it takes to make any project perfect. The 308 is going to be awesome once it's done.

Your videos show exactly why there are so many unfinished projects for sale. Its that last 10% that really drags. You are doing great. I very much appreciate your reluctance to compromise quality for crossing things off the list as done. These details are stellar.

I like the idea of packing a lot into one episode and releasing updates less often. Maybe continue to try different video formats in between if you feel the need to get an upload out. The camping stuff was cool and the "some history" section of the Audi reveal video was really interesting. I think some historical videos on the history of the brand, past cars, etc would be cool and unique. Also, your DIY skills are insane so any video related to that are really awesome as well (I still go back to the AN line one pretty often haha)!

Honestly, I enjoy seeing anything you have going on in the couple a week format with shorter videos or whatever. I'm interested to see bits of 308 content or other projects or new things happening with the shop space or whatever you're working on. Also, short videos on single projects checked off the 308 list might help motivate you to chip away by small victories versus "getting enough content to make a full 308 video." Just a thought
By the way, in a world of thrown together youtube project cars (which are great and all), appreciate your dedication and level of finish on projects. Pretty excited about the future of this thing

Anybody that thinks this build should be done eather has no idea what it's like build a customer car by yourself or is probably used to other channels where they have a whole teem of guys working on the car and still not reaching this level of quality. Also most builds use a lot of off the shelf parts and this thing is mostly designed and made by you and that alone takes a crazy amount of time. I'm honestly impressed how fast it's coming together!

Thanks for the content! I don't search for builds like yours so stumbling on this episode made me feel in good company as I'm in the last 10% of my Porsche build as well. 90% done with 90% to go is how it's been described to me! Your work is excellent and inspiring to someone like me who refers to his build as the Roadkill Garage version of a show car!

Dude, the dimple die mistake! We have all done that. Not just on cars, seems I get there whenever I'm way over tired. Mistakes like that on all kinds of projects, usually at the worst possible time(like when Ive run out of materials and the store just closed) Or worse when the mistake leads to an injury. Yea I've unfortunately done that a bunch too... I like the idea of regular episodes every week or every other week. I enjoy the small details. Not sure thats worth much, but IMO keep em coming! First off, ANYBODY complaining about how long this build is taking has never built a car other than a snap fit model.
Second, I love that you include the oopsies. No build is made without multiple mistakes/re-do's in real life.
Thirdly, I love this build and REALLY want to see it complete, but not at the cost of you not being happy with it, or half assing it to please some grumpy fuck who'll never see it in real life, let alone own it. It's your car, and the only one it needs to make happy is you. Keep up the content, I'm here for it 100%!

I sold the wheels/tires off a parts truck while it was on my lift (its going to get stripped and then the leftover cab is going to be rolled away on a dolley) and then my lift BROKE with the truck 3ft in the air and leaned over 45 degrees. Enjoyed this episode just the same as the rest! Channels and builds like power Nation and formula supra are great and fun to watch, but they're hardly relatable to normal people who don't have access to tons of money and teams of seasoned experts. Small tips like you re-flattening the chassis brace with the dimple tool go a long way, as opposed seeing a perfect part magically appear welded in place. Also while it may be at your expense, it's nice to hear someone be real and say "not gonna lie, this sucks and I'm frustrated", and then seeing how you work your way through those times.

Take your time, perfection can't be rushed.

I honestly like how you show your mistakes and redos too. It helps when I'm redoing things to remember it happens. The whole time you were redoing the swing arms I never once thought "not this again" I was honestly excited and rooting for you to get it right. In the end, it's what you want to make but don't think nobody will want to see it.

One of the best build channels on youtube, keep up the awesome work, I personally like the small details, I have 2 builds on the go and seeing you and other guys grind through the details motivates me and often reminds me to think about other items on my builds

I just want to say thanks... on the last 10% on two projects now and about to take on a g-body 911 LS swap... so these last projects are dragging since i'm so excited for this next build. The gift and the curse.

I always enjoy the tiny details. It makes the build look more thought out, shows people new ideas for their builds etc. If you don't do that it ends up looking like a half hour special on supercharging a mustang GT...covered in half an hour. If you're going to bother cataloguing a build on video on the internet it should cover the excruciating minutia. I also think that every 2 weeks is a good time frame, less chance to forget about it for those of us that have more than one subscription

This was a great episode! I really like the "packed with lots of small stuff" approach to documenting the last 10% of the project. A Ferrari update every few weeks works great at this point. Looking forward to the first drive episode! And the Audi, and the BMW, and the Model A rebuild, and....

Spaced out episodes with other projects sprinkled in is fine, just keep up the grind and fill us in when you've got 15 minutes or so of content even if it's just a handful of smaller projects like this. I'm not one of the ones bitching about it taking too long, so no pressure from this direction. I for one appreciate the attention to detail and getting stuff right.

appreciate the don't-care attitude, this isn't owned by anyone else but you and the fact people feel they have a say is such a telling aspect of society lately. The videos are the same, this is art - we come here for both artistic vision on cars alongside your vision for the videos. I would love to see more time lapse items in multi-cam but I also love the unique vision you have.

Oh yeah, of course i want to see everything ! Even the little things, that's how i learn from your videos, you're showing everything, and there's not much channels that goes this deep in a build. In the end, like you said, produce what you want to produce, i'm here for the ride !

I am enjoying this build more as it goes on. I agree with another comment suggesting a punch list episode. Divide it up by what is needed to drive the car and prioritize that work. The aero package is cool but not needed to get the car moving under its own power.
I subscribed for the Model A content but I understand you are a one man shop so there is a limit to how much you can do in a week.
Keep up the good work! I’ll keep watching and enjoying the content.

I Love to see these smaller detail pieces of this build- all the stuff most ‘car build’ shows leave out completely but its fascinating to see all the care put into every aspect of the car.

I think all the little jobs are enjoyable to watch. It's the little things that make a project like this actually work, instead of always being just done enough to run.

Take the fan cover off the back of your motor, behind the fan there may be 3x 10mm bolts holding the brake assembly. You can back off these bolts to loosen the brake.
Also some motors have an arm coming out through the fan cover that allows you to jack off the brake. It works a bit like a clutch fork & throw out bearing in a gearbox.

I feel like this is a huge part of a youtubers struggle (I'm just getting to this phase myself) With the "little stuff probably isn't interesting" sentiment. Always am I second guessing should I even be filming this because it's so miniscule BUT I Will say you shouldn't be worried about that in any fashion. The build is so outside of the norm even the small stuff is interesting, captivating and holding our attention fully. Keep up the amazing work mike!

Loved the content in this video with plenty of jobs covered … but … the engineer in me lives seeing all the minute details being shown as well. I would happily watch a 15 minute video of welding up a single part. All in all though I’m here to see the Ferrari done and if it’s 1 video away or 50, I be watching them all from start to finish. Also really enjoying the other videos you upload. Keep them all coming Mike.

Love seeing it all ! But I’m a building cars nerd. So it’s the little details that make a difference and bring all the big stuff together. If they are rushed and done wrong it brings the level of the build down, please keep doing what your doing and showing

There’s a little brass piece under the tip of that brake cleaner that makes it come out as a fine mist. I removed mine and it’s more like a traditional can of brake clean that I found much more useful. Thanks for the good vids! Always look forward to your progress videos.

Open that rear cover on the disc sander motor, there should be a brake adjuster on the back of it. If it's like the motors I'm familiar with, it'll have some bolts that lock it into place, when you back them off you can spin the adjuster out to change the clearance between the brake and drum. That way you could just crank down the adjuster to disable the brake. IIRC the machine was mis-wired when you got it, likely the brake is not wired to disengage when it's powered on. It's an electromagnet that pulls the brake away from the drum.

I'm here to see a beautiful build with great eye for detail. I don't care if your working on a big part or something small. I just like to see how it all gets done in your vision. Considering how many builds get stuck in this "last 10% stage" would be cool to see you work through it. Anyway hope my 2 cents helped. Ps if you are worried about length between episodes.. just remember you're doing much better then project Binky.

Awesome content as ever, but one quick thing I've noticed is that the inlet to the oil tank from the turbo looks almost as high as the drain on the turbo where the oil line attaches, which could stop the oil from leaving the turbo as efficiently as you'd like and lead to other problems.
I know you're the king of making, remaking and remaking things, but I reckon you'd get away with a shallower tank while still being able to keep it above that crossmember. I've used a tank from a Porsche 993 turbo on my M52 turbo E30 which is significantly smaller than your tank and in practise even that's much bigger than it needs to be (one of those wouldn't work for your application, but is worth looking at for size comparison). As long as the oil flows in with no restriction and is drawn out of the tank in a way that doesn't cause a vacuum that sucks it straight through the turbo, you're golden.
Keep up the top work - in terms of both car building and video production!

You made a good point about this stage of the build: there's some survivorship bias happening and anyone still watching is invested in it. I'd be happy to see the nickel and dime stuff because (a) it all gets this car closer to the road and (b) you have a knack for making things interesting/educational anyway. That said, also looking forward to what you've got planned for the Quattro.
