    Having rattle canned my car 3 times now, I'm still at about 1/2 the price of a proper paint job and people are always shocked when they find out the current paint job is a driveway rattle can job.
    It's all in the prep, finishing and knowing your equipment.

    Hello from the cold north west of England Mike, one thing l want to thank you for is your commitment to telling the whole dogged truth about the shoddy construction methods employed by Ferrari you uncovered during this build, it’s refreshing to finally see someone being completely honest about these cars instead of blindly worshipping them, thanks for that 👍
    God bless you and yours and best wishes

    I think that what you do the metal prior to using a spray paint can matters even more. The fact that you sandblasted and applied that texture to all the metal means that it will adhere and its probably responsible for giving you such a uniform finish.

    • @jjfordingpoursoulstudios8581
      @jjfordingpoursoulstudios8581 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Totally agree! Paint work results are 99.9% about the prep work prior to laying the paint down.

    • @j.d.8593
      @j.d.8593 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The uniform finish is a Steel-It thing, it was designed to give you a uniform finish no matter how you spray it, of course, have good metal under it also helps.

    With that valve cover, watch out for the baffling being insufficient with the lower profile. (Any lateral loading will dump loads of oil on your trans.) You'll definitely need to tie the valve cover to a catch can of some variety rather than venting to atmosphere. Can also utilize the front-facing ports instead of the side so that there's a little more vertical distance before you start dumping oil.

    Been debating on how to paint the engine bay of my AE86 and I think you just convinced me to use Steel-It. That turned out amazing!

  • @Wayne_Smith
    @Wayne_Smith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It doesn't matter to me how long it takes. I think getting it tested with the engine before you design chassis is simply practical. You'd want to get the bugs worked out and really know the car before you do that. Every video you make is artistic, well narrated, a joy to watch. I don't care what you're building I just enjoy watching your videos, appreciating your process and great organization in accomplishing these goals. You're excellent in every measure.

  • @Missileworksllc
    @Missileworksllc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really hope your bearings still fit into your control arms. Standard practice while welding those bearing cups it to buy or machine a slug that you insert before welding to help keep its shape and absorb and dissipate the heat.

    I’ve rattle canned countless bike tins used a good automotive clear on the tanks and I often time impressed myself after some sanding and buffing. I wouldn’t recommend it as an exterior alternative on a car, you can, but aerosol cans tend to have tons of hardeners added which is good and bad. Drys fast but doesn’t have the flexibility of a base coat clear coat. I think your job turned out killer my man.
