I FELT YOUR PAIN ROB , AND AS I WATCH THE VIDEO, I KNEW YOU WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE TOOL BOX OUT TO FIT THE TANK , I BELIEVE THIS IS THE BEST REASON WHY BOB STANDARD IS THE WAY TO GO FOR ME PERSONAL, I CAN UNDERSTAND YOUR REASONS WHY YOU NEED LONG RANGE ! DID THE 🥃 WHISKY HELP ? THANKYOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO 📹 ROB CHEERS PAL 👍🏻😎
Total nightmare to fit....in fact I went back to a standard fuel tank on one of my scooters as the mid range/ toolbox combination was so awful to work with. On my other scooter I fitted a long range tank and leg shield toolbox....prob the best option
I've just had the same hassle with the same tank. after a day's messing about had to give up as my hands were cramping so badly ! Got there in the end but couldn't get trunnions correct so used vary large industrial cable ties and the job was so mush easier
Absolutely a fucking ball ache!! Fitted one to my gp they are 10 ltr exactly measured, old tank cleaned and sealed with por 15 tank sealer (needs 4 days to cure properly and it been really good) , You need to grind a bit off the front of the tank, to get it to fit snug it should tilt forward slightly and then my filler cap was level , put sticky rubber where the straps fit 1mm thick, once tightened seems to fit better, but goodness me did I swear
I had the same issues, i ended up grinding down the front and back of the tank, then hitting the lower and back mounts down and then hitting the tank into the frame then hitting the mounts back.
This is why I bought a Diablo steel long range tank years ago. Easy to fit, and it's still going strong almost 20 years later though sadly, these are no longer made. I believe Al Diablo sold the design to Oiltek. :)
This made me laugh out loud as it reminded me of me doing various jobs including this same one and cursing how nothing ever fits as you would like. Love it ❤
What and epic to say the least. Quick question mate to get your thoughts. One of my scoots tanks has gone rusty inside due to being stood for a long while. How would you go about solving it and making sure it didn’t happen again??
Absolutely a pain in the ass Rob, just a note. From ya video, is the engine mount going to foul the fuel tap ? Very tight 🙏🏻 love the vids keep em coming 👏🏼👍🏼
I cut the toolbox rubbers so that they only ran down the sides. Still had to smash the sh@t out of it with a rubber mallet to fit! Thank god for powder coat!
Long range fuel tanks are typically 15 to 17 litre and you need to remove the toolbox. Mid range normally are between 10 and 13 litre and you can keep the toolbox but have to remove your air filter box if you have one.
@@kickbackgarage Thanks. I know it was a daft question. I have heard of adding tanks and range. (Many years ago I lived in the Land of Land Rovers!) But I have never heard of reducing range as it were. And the more I thought the more I confused myself.
@@kickbackgarage the only nice looking lambretta is the GP and you don't have one of them so I don't think a legshield toolbox will make yours look any different 😂,,,,,,,, you never heard of " function over form ' 😂.... Good videos though
Oiltek to expensive, Cambridge Lambretta do a tank about 14 ltr might try this, I go touring so leg shield box and a bag at the back just, must admit I like a tool box too.
Very patient, many of us would have ended up adjusting it with a sledgehammer !
I’m even more glad I fitted an Oiltek tank after watching that.

No help from the whisky, I'm afraid.
Well done Rob........loads of patience there, looked a bloody nightmare mate. ......"Mo-Fo" 😂😂😂😂

Holy sh-t! On my (now sold) series 3 I fitted a British made stainless midrange tank. Held 13 litres, easier to fit by miles than that one ...
What a nightmare. I was wondering why you didn't do a dry fit and massage it before painting. Atleast you got it to fit in the end so great job.
The good news is that it doesn't leak at least 😁
You are a heckuva masseur sir
😁
Great video keep up the hard work.

Literally just did this on my S2. Went back for the stock tank. Lemme know what you figure out.
Christ I'm glad it's not just me then with 5 minute jobs turning into 5 or more hours...keep up the good work Rob
It was nice to hear that it's not just me too 😂
Little tip for Rattle Can Painting - Heat up the can in Hot Water before the 2 minute initial rattle.
It was 28 degrees Celsius this evening 😄
Right! Not doing that then😅

I used oiltek tank and fitted perfectly
Yes, but they don't make a mid range tank.
@@kickbackgarage fair point however trade off against leg shield box or tray under panel to carry bits
Still very frustrating watching u fit that tank but we’ll done
I bought a bolt in midrange tank from chisel speed for series 3 and it only took 20 mins tops👍🏻
Good to know. Different story in a s1 or 2.

I've had several Diablo tanks. Al is great great guy to boot. 😎
Love the general massage 😂 🔨🔨🔨
Maybe that's why my wife has stopped asking for massages? 🤷♂️😂

Heading back over to Norway tomorrow with a van too collect the special
That took a long time!

May I ask please why is it mid range? What does that mean? More or less than standard?

One word ..,..... Oiltek 😉
They don't make a mid range tank unfortunately. 😢
@@kickbackgarage that's what legshield toolboxes are for 😁
They are ugly imo and the back side of the legshield is where I like to strap luggage on my trips.
