Well punching somebody in the face hard enough can make you realize your flaws that's obviously why she became an anti-hero because you got to remember ganki knock some sense into her
I remember watching this as a kid, a friend of mine even found what i think was the second game and we rented and played like crazy for awhile. I remember being able to fuse some of the monsters to make new ones and we found that any CD having to do with star wars made the android monster I think it was called Hanger and you could fuse it with others so I had a whole team of robots like Golem, and tiger and them but all machine versions. Wow what a blast from the past lol
You won't believe how many of my old friends i know don't remember Monster Rancher. Some of them i told hey Remember this one anime from the late 90's we used to watch during sleepovers. As if a part of there memories that have remained closed off just immediately got unlocked remembering the nostalgia of those days. But this show was overshadowed by both Pokemon and Digimon during the time.
I still think it's crazy how underrated this anime was even though it was another rip-off of Pokemon that doesn't mean it was bad and it came on five different channels so how could people have missed it the background music in the fight scenes blew my mind

I live in America and believe it or not this anime actually came on five different channels 1. Fox 40 2. Fox family 3. Kqca 58 TV 4. The Syfy channel 5. But in Canada it was the YTV channel Still think it's crazy that the anime wasn't as popular as Digimon in Pokemon even though it was a rip-off but that doesn't mean it's bad I love the background music in the fight scenes they were amazing
I loved MR1 and 2 as a teen. The whole switching discs to get new monsters was fun. Still remember my dragon I raised to max Atk and Skill and other high stats that amounted to nothing against my friend's Prism. Couldn't hit it and when i did it did 1 dmg even on critical.
The kanji Muu means nothingness or void which works for him since he wants to take everyones joy and hope then replace it with anger and doub, nothingness like a shell of themselves, but over here we didnt have the context. So we just thought of cows lol

Earlier this year Hulu was removing it from its service and I had saved it earlier wanting to watch it when I had spare time and nothing else to watch. Since it was leaving, I decided to watch and see if it was any good. It was generic but I enjoyed watching the anime and because of it, I was excited for the remaster of 1&2 for the switch. I haven't gotten them yet, but I do want to play it and experience the game that started the series even if it's not on the original hardware.
I was sad this anime wasn't finished; even then I think it could've been further expanded on by isekai via disk much like Digimon with introducing new characters. Personally imo, they should have rebooted the game series around the monster rancher anime, gave it a more DBZ/Sand Land-esque design, introduced more gimmicks in the anime, and changed the disk to something else through either reboot or it somehow being aged out in time within the monster rancher story.
I remember this one, I ended up Importing the DVDs, well the ones that I could get. I tossed this one in the pile along with, Kid Muscle, Mon Colle Knights and Flint the Time Detective, If you want a 90's Pokemon rip off try Flint the Time Detective!
I don't know whether I played Monster Rancher 2 first or watched the anime during the early 2000's in the Philippines but regardless, I watched the show every Thursday night when it was aired and I find it more serious compared to Pokémon's plot and tone. The monsters in the show can die just like in the game which made me a bit upset whenever I saw one on screen but I suppose the show teaches us that it's part of life. I don't I actually saw the ending of the show properly but I did saw the part where Genki and his friends finally defeated Muu, and he came back to human world while it was raining and his friends cheered him on. However, I don't think that's how the end really is. I guess I need to rewatch the entire show again after 20+ long years.
This why I liked the show. It wasn't overly cute or innocent. It had a much more realistic element while still being a kids show. You can also watch the full epsiodes show on youtube :D
You're not the only one it came on five different channels in America I just wish that they aired the second season on regular TV but it was a fox family exclusive after they aired it on Hulu I think it's gone now but somebody was nice enough to upload the rest of the episodes to the internet on archive websites and poverty websites so Old skool Vans can enjoy it
if they remade this game with the cd summon system using steam cards and the training/ tournament system that was in monster rancher, used jade cocoons taming and fusing system it would be the ultimate beast catching game imo
This is a smart idea. I think Koei are really set in their ways when it comes to the game. It will need some new blood at the company to be ambitious and go for stuff like that.

My friend dusted off his PS1 and he has a Monster Rancher game tho it wasn't what we expected. It was a pogo racing game and boy did we lose our sh*t playing it late at night and drunk af. everyone fell off the platform and didn't reach the finish line because of all the laughing. Anyways, this was big in the Philippines. Almost everyone who watched it back then probably remembers it. Suezo is quite famous compared to the other characters perhaps because of the funny voice acting of the local dub. Too bad the ending OST Flame Of Love by Sweet Velvet isn't on spotify, I really like that song.

There were lots of shows that aired on saturday morning for a brief window of time only for them to fade away or become obscure. I feel like you're over thinking it. At best monster rancher was an alright semi successful niche game series that rode the pokemon wave into a number of games on gameboy, ps1, and gba. The cartoon was something thrown together and brought to the west to capitalize on pokemania and was alright but nothing terribly special. It was a contemporary to pokemon AND in the US aired on fox kids with digimon. Pokemon was bigger than just an anime, and digimon managed to keep chugging along and building a fanfair and staying relevant by releasing more seasons and overall just being a better show. Theres lots of shows nobody talks about further away from it's release. Remember beast machines? The transormers robots in disguise anime? Mummies alive? Even contemporary cult hits fade into obscurity. Like every mid 00s anime fan knew about Elfin Lied it was a "mainstream" pick, but today it's obscure. Time moves on and somethings get remembered and some dont. Sometimes it's because that thing was very very good, and sometimes it's because that thing was part of a multimedia empire that continuously produced content in order to stay relevant to this day.
A fair opinion. My view is that is quite a good anime that unfortunately got lost in the shuffle because of the Pokémon Digimon boom. I also do remember beast wars and to some extent the mummies! I rmeembe the mummies had a sick intro theme and cheetah being my favourite beast wars character
There was a recent game in 2022 called ultimate kaiju. But they really focus on their Japanese market. I wouldn't say it's disappeared yet but it's on its way. The fact the my friends are all like '🤔 why does that sound familiar? ' when I ask them if they remember monster rancher, are signs that in the western world, it will be forgotten unless the creators do something special.

The one thing I did like about monster rancher compared to Digimon in Pokemon is that the fight scenes were really detailed and they were more realistic looking when they hit each other in the American background music was amazing it fit the atmosphere of the show in one character pixie believe it or not in the Japanese version she was really a succubus but they changed it when they brought it to America because they didn't want kids to look up on the internet with a succubus was

I HATED the main character of the anime (the same as the first Beyblade), however the show was fun overall but not at the level of Digimon. The games were cool anyway, the concept of putting other CDs on the Playstation in order to create monsters was unique and kinda revolutionary.
Because this one never was showed in europe. foxkids or cartoon network had diffrent show usa or eu... I cant remember because it was never showed here. so i might only be i see comments asia or some america parts
The maker of this video says they watched it on the BBC, IE a brit... So it was shown in certain parts of Europe. I bet Spain got this show and probably France.
Holly was overall so incredibly genericly designed, it's almost charming... ^^; almost. Yes all monster designs and character designs (Holly, looking at you)... were kinda boring. From a visual design aspect. The story in general was.... neat tho.
