In this DCS World Simulator video I'm in the F16 Viper fighting Blade in the MiG29 Fulcrum in a BVR (Beyond Visual Range) environment while trying a new tactic to have the edge over this fight. Thanks to Blade for the help with this one. Hope you guys enjoy!
Great video, I am starting to get into DCS myself and something I noted on multiplayer servers is that the initial speed is very important, if you get up to mach 1.6 you can lob an AMRAAM even outside of its engagement envelope and It sometimes hits
Awesome video Longshot! BVR is like watching a game of chess, only more fun! Hope you will make more BVR videos in the future! Stay safe Sir and blue skies!
I've had this climbing defense tactic after going low, for years. surprised I haven't seen it sooner on GS or your channel. I also have a maneuver tactic for countering one-circle fighters, but it needs more testing.
Making the missile push against gravity, I like that... I asked that question to one of your DCS friends, Growling Sidewinder, about a month ago and he advised against it... IDK because I don't play DCS and I'm not a fighter pilot, but I thought it would/could work under certain conditions...(not calling out GS because he knows WAY more about this stuff than I do, just MHO) Love your content longshot, and GS' content too.
I love it when you and GS get together and fight as a team or against each other. Not sure if you have ever done it but I’d love to see you guys go at each other you in an F 35 and GS in an F-14 a. That’s right I want him in the original F 14 so we can really test his skill. If you days ago and if 35 King screaming a cross over my house. As I drove past the airport yesterday it was sitting at the air guard unit. I pulled my trash truck in and admired that beautiful piece of equipment. My days of being a soldier are over but I gladly reenlist if my country needed me.
The missile POV shots were informative and cool, highlighting your speed/ energy points about the dodging! Just wanted to say, inside the MAR on the deck, in that area? I see mountains, you'd be safe, just dodging aroudn them and making it so mountain peaks block missile shots ,hah.- Nvmd, you mention this later on, LOL. I'm ALWAYS looking for mountains when watching you and GS's dogfights, to see if there's a mountain range that would be easy to hide from radar, and missiles from..
Awesome video again. I was wondering about information coming from AWACS, When he gives you numbers hot and cold for BRAA, where is it in your displays?
The F15C that I'm in in this video does not have a dedicated screen for that, the radar have a progrem that shows freind or foe. To follow the BRA I use the HUD where I see heading, altitude
I wonder if BVR will ever be used in real life. I can’t imagine American ROE allowing a fighter to shoot down a Russian, Chinese, or any enemy threat aircraft without visual confirmation unless we’re in WWIII, but in that case the nukes will have already launched.
How realistic is this fight? I would've thought in BVR the F 16 should be superior due to much better radar and avionics..but this appeared to come down solely to strategy and piloting.
You would be surprised. The only advantage of F16 that LS managed to leverage in this fight is his datalink (mig-29 doesn't have it). Otherwise he did indeed win because of the poor performance of that mig pilot. The mig shot two missiles in the beginning (wasting one), poorly worked his radar elevation in the end and defended the last Amraam that ended up hitting him reaaaaassally poorly, almost as if he wanted to get hit. So despite having wasted one missile, he still died with a missile attached to his wing. So yeah, indeed, pilot skill was the key factor here
At what distance can you trust the fox 3 radar to work without needing guidance from your radar? Or are they good on their own and you crank on them to avoid them going pit bull, or any other consideration?
i think most missiles ideally need guidance until their NEZ. Im guessing in NEZ they have sufficient energy and they are going pitbull with their own radars
I have a question regarding bvr Is it possible for the awacs to provide guidance to your fox 3 missiles by using link 16, when you are defending and crank ?
I've been wondering for about a year now why such a 2D solution to dodging missiles is the best way when climbing back up at the right time seems a much better use of a fighter, which has essentially unlimited energy, in defeating a missile with very limited energy. Also like that the extra altitude would make it harder for an opponent to hide behind terrain. I hope when Ukraine gets Vipers they load them up with 'Nape & Snake'. Napalm & cluster munitions are great for sanitizing trenches.
What are you suggesting exactly? Out turning or "dodging" a modern missile is practically impossible as long as it has sufficient energy. The higher you are the easier it is for a missile to reach you due to thinner air. Climbing back up high before the missile has had a chance to drop down is almost the same as staying up high. Missiles at their peak energy can reach speeds 3-4 times that of the fighter thus the need to turn cold and fly low. Decoying fox 3 missiles is hard, hiding behind mountains is a better option.

Pro tip ur fights would be easier if u loaded ur plane with shotgun shells
That was one tactic I was wondering about....."roller coastering" the missile.
Again, awesome. Great commentary and strategy presentation.
Thanks so much! I appreciate that

@@LongShotChannel Cool, I look forward to it Sir, now I am off to bed, its 02.23 am here in Norway
This got me thinking … have you ever been able to hide in the mountains long enough to actually “play dead”?

I'm considering getting into DCS after years of playing Ace Combat, this channel looks great. Subscribed.
Thank you very much
perfect. do one fight, then reverse jets and do it again.
F-16 vs MiG-29, the two sexiest fighters put to the skies. Beautiful!
Man I think the Viper looks great in Israeli colours. One one that looks better is in Helenic AF colours.
Great fight LS! Can't wait to see you fly more with (and against) GS!
Thanks buddy, sure, soon...
Love the F-16, really happy to see you pull it out more often than the others 🎉🎉
Thanks buddy

@@LongShotChannel No wonder I can't find it. Thanks
Why don't you shoot the enemy awacs at the beginning of the engagement, blind the enemy from the beginning?
how come i dont have the new rwr sounds lol
nice video

Any chance that the opponent Blade was a naval aviator early 2000s? I knew a Blade.
F-16 is the best.

@@hippoace more or less what I had in mind. Thanks for the reply. It would be cool to have an in deep discussion on the topic
Can we do Indian Rafale vs Chinese J20 BVR and Dogfight.
Humble request
Awesome!!!!
@LongShot When are you going to dogfight GS again?
I have a question regarding bvr

Doesn't seem fair, since the mig-29 doesn't have datalink.
It can be just and only one - Longshot
The mig looks like mig 29upg of india
how about you finally do a vid without datalink and awacs?
Abodah nehemda

MISSILE *HAS* NO ENERGY 😀
