Even then this is retarded. People shouldn’t be offended by things like this. If people drop these peeps in a 3rd world country they’d die from becoming too offended.
you don't need to be a doctor to say that any person on this freakn earth should have this thoughts .. ofc you can poison yourself with realy bad nutrition .. i.e. daily fast food, excessive calories and sugar .. a galon of lemonade a day .. and so on
Tbf that point was specifically that they know he did videos about certain diets but hasn't watched those so can't comment on them, not that they've never seen his videos full stop.
@@sarahamaris5383 Not really, they conceded that they didn't know his stance on a particular topic. Keto, IF, etc. are all diets which that subreddit - a subreddit for many people recovering from eating disorders - was against. The fact that he tried these diets is a supporting point in the post because it can be triggering for people recovering from eating disorders, many of whom would hope that a doctor wouldn't advertise them. I'm not taking a stance against Doctor Mike, but the feelings the poster had were valid considering the location of the post and the mention of those videos didn't weaken the argument at all.
I lost over 200lbs with bariatric surgery. It saved my life. I have been told by many people that I am fatphobic, that I am lazy, and I should have accepted my body for what it was. I would have died young.i am so much happier and healthier. And I will never stop advocating for that treatment because it changed my life. I refuse to apologize for that
thank you for saying this! i guess a lot of people do not like what happens when you lose a lot of weight and how others treat them better when theyre finally skinny but id like to look at it like theyre proud of you for finally taking care of yourself
You are just guessing that it saved your life. You want that to be the case because you made such an insane decision. I am sure you have all kinds of medical problems.

The thing I'm fond of about Dr. Mike's advocacy isn't the message itself but how empathetic he is delivering the message. He knows from the patients he's had the struggles of diets and whatnot which made him very sympathetic towards people who struggle with the mental part of weight loss for obese people (which is the biggst hurdle really; since dieting is the only real thing you'll need for weight loss unless say you got a couple pounds of sagging skin where physical activity will be welcome) He even sympathizes well enough for those who pretty much get harsh words from others' doctors
@@ArnoldFrost Yeah. He really feels for the people who just can’t control themselves at all. Thank God were empathetic toward that weak and pathetic mindset and approach it with more weakness.
He’s a doctor, why wouldn’t he condone eating healthy. Just cuz he condones doesn’t mean he’s fat shaming. He’s just trying to help guide people to being healthier and happier
Most overweight/obese people have this mentality that if you speak about diets, exercise, weightloss you're automatically fatphobic. This isn't something new, its an issue happening daily on the internet and Dr Mike isnt the only one that has addressed this problem. Plenty of fitness content creators who have been on a weightloss journey have spoken up about this. Unfortunately those people refuse to listen because they blame it on their family history of obesity saying how they can never lose weight, theyve always been fat, and so forth. Any healthy advice they take it as fat shaming. Its quite sad honestly.
@@ughmuggles1815 Most overweight/obese people know that they have a health problem and want to reverse it. You're describing the keyboard warrior fringe who take scientific facts as personal attacks. Not to mention some of us have had exceptionally rude, or shitty doctors who were 100% not helpful, so there's that.
OH NO! I'm fat so you can't mention anything related to it! I'm not unhealthy because I'm fat! My knees ain't painful because my wight! How do you dare to tell me to loose weight to help my knee pain? You are Soo fatphobic!!!!
I feel like the main reason people are “calling him out” is because there’s a lot of people in flat out denial. There’s a good amount of people who genuinely believe that being obese has zero risks, despite all the proof against that belief, so they get angry when people bring up those risks and say they should lose weight
Belg- Fat shamer! Fatphobic! I have the freedom to choose to be fat and unhealthy! So what if he’s right! I’m outraged! For real though. Even the fatphobic made up term is cringeworthy. I’m fat and it’s ridiculous to say that. I thought being phobic means you have a fear of it. Like “I’m skinny and I have fatphobia, I’m scared to become fat.” Not “I hate far people therefore I’m fatphobic. Am I wrong there? Anyways, still an idiotic term made up there.
@Don’t be Triggered They’re trying to make it as bad as the transphobia problem. The people pushing it are either 1) in denial about their health 2) worried about the poor people who can’t speak for themselves or 3) been bullied their whole life for being healthily chubby and want an apology. Probably mostly the last category that don’t realize My 600 lb Life is actually a reality and people should be swayed away from it.
What made me burst into laughter is “ Doctor mikes tells them to “ watch what you eat” “ 😂😂💔 noo I am losing my mind smh.... how dare he advise them something so fucking right
Welcome to radical left ideology that is becoming rampant in our society. I haven't watched the full video yet, but if he apologizes, then he is only playing into their irrational ideology.
Since when is “watching what you eat” fatphobic? You can be skinny and still be recommended to watch what you eat. It’s not always about your physique but about your overall health
Solid point right here. Every time I get a check up or a doctor asks about my diet and what I eat/drink, I am always told I need to eat better and drink better, and that's me being "too skinny". Also it's so odd that this is what people think is fat phobic and his smoking example was good but also dentists always say the whole less sugar and acid stuff but nobody is out here with half of their teeth missing due to cavities complaining about dentists telling them they should work on improving their diet so the few teeth they have left don't rot away.
Exactly.....a person can still have many metabolic problems if there diet isn’t well regulated ...they might look skinny on the outside but they would be suffering with so many problems as they get older, what’s worse is that nobody would see that coming in such a person, like if a person is visibly fat one will observe that they need to careful , but when a person is skinny it’s even harder to discern whether he or she is actually healthy....the motive should be to stay healthy...I support you Dr.mike
As a man who is 370 pounds at 6'2" and a full time electrician. I move around a lot still because of my job. My eating problem is because, I don't have a lot of self control when it comes to food. But I can say that I really appreciate the videos where Dr Mike brings up obesity. They have gotten me motivated to overcome my self control issue. To this day I have lost 30 pounds in three months. Thank you Dr Mike. You have motivated me.
Telling someone they won’t be able to find love because they’re fat is fatphobic. Saying you’re at a risk of type 2 diabetes when you’re overweight is not.
This is an excellent point. Fatphobia is when people say you are: lazy, disgusting, mean, stupid, ugly, worthless, don’t deserve respect or rights, should be treated unequally and should be shunned in society because you are fat. Health is important and should be sought out. I think health is less tied to the number on the scale or bmi and more about your habits. Do you eat balanced meals and exercise often? Do you avoid harmful habits like smoking and excessive drinking? If you get the recommended amount of exercise and eat with nutrition in mind, weight, shape, or size shouldnt really matter. As someone who is very anti-fatphobia, all i ask is people stop judging me, being cruel to me, prevent me from opportunities that i am well equipped for such as jobs, and constantly pressuring me to take up extreme measures that lead to eating disorders because of my size. Really, unless you are my doctor and you know my lifestyle and habits, you shouldnt be commenting on someone elses weight or what they eat. Its not your place. And i think its toxic to expect everyone to sustainably be able to be thin. Thinness does not equal health, and sometimes people cannot sustain a weight that someone else can. Yes, if we all starved, we could be thin, but that isnt sustainable. And i ask people to understand weight loss is a lot harder than it looks. It takes both mental and physical effort. It can consume your mind until its all you think about. I want everyone to be healthy, find food that is nutritious and satisfying. Find movement that makes them feel happy and do it often as possible. But that does not mean its ever ok to bully people because of how they look.
Yes although that’s not what they said. I wholeheartedly disagree with what they said but they used the term fat phobic not fat shaming. The difference is that fat phobic is the notion that one fears fat people so to them they shouldn’t be a thing, i can see why this vision could be attributed to health professionals as doctors would normally never advise one to be overweight or stay overweight for obvious health reasons but i mean that’s the point of their profession, no one should blame them for promoting a healthy lifestyle with healthy life goals and them doing so doesn’t mean they are judgemental either so their stance on the matter is just stupid to me.
Especially when it's coming from a MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL Like i get that people could get upset if some random person or even a family member with no medical knowledge called them that, but a doctor??? binch that's a medical term not a slur
I think people are just in denial that is unhealthy. You wouldn't get mad at a doctor for telling you that any other disease is unhealthy. Then again, it's just how our brain's are wired, you can't blame them.
As a formerly obese person, I appreciate Dr. Mike and wish I had someone like him in my corner when I was younger. He is not fat phobic, he is a doctor who obviously cares about his patients and is trying to share his extensive knowledge. Not all Doctors in the media are “Dr.” Oz.
@@_worldwide_shoulders_3974 agreed. Idiots thinking "obese" is some people using it to shame when medically that's exactly what they are. It's like telling people "So and so have autism" when that certain person DOES have autism. Is it hate speech? Don't think so.
@@pmfreekick8333 when a medical professional uses the term "obese" to describe a patient's weight that's not fat-shaming. but it can be when people who aren't doctors and don't know what they're talking about use it to bully someone. i don't know whether you've ever seen comments under posts calling people "obese," but oftentimes those people are only slightly overweight and either way, some random kid making such a comment under someone's post is extremely insensitive. bottom line, i think what she's trying to say is: a medical professional saying it during a check up is very different than kids bullying each other on social media.
Yep. I've been working on getting my weight down (sometimes more and sometimes less successful but it's been going in the right direction) and I really never felt like he was disrespectful or hateful in any way.
Same! I've seen many doctors with a fatphobic attitude and Dr. Mike's is not. Could he maybe improve in his inclusive language and general wording? Sure, we all have room to grow but he's the kind of doctor that actually has in depth conversations with patients.
A lot of the “fatphobic” BS comes from thinking that there’s literally *nothing* wrong with being overweight or obese, so anyone telling them to lose weight is “fatphobic.” It seems to be a willful ignorance of the massive amounts of evidence supporting having a relatively “normal” weight for good long-term health. Following this logic, doctors are also apparently cholesterol-phobic, cancer-phobic, and smoking-phobic.
For real, what the hell? Because Dr. Mike mentioned obesity and watching what you eat, it's is some sort of fatphobic propaganda? He's a doctor! Of course he's going to mention these things. I really don't understand people sometimes.
Bro, you have the patience of a saint. Like, beyond what is expected of any person ever. Imagine a decade and a half dedicating your life to medicine, just to have uneducated people condemn you for trying to help people. Damn, your patience is actually motivational for me, inspirational. Put all the actual medical topics aside, your personality and good nature has legitimately given me so much respect for you. I appreciate you, Dr.
Apparently it is... and even Registered Dietitians (the ones who are anti diet, and healthy at all sizes, etc) don't say it because they might offend someone. So ridicoulous.
yeah apparently in today's society you can't say a single thing just in case you offend someone, I corrected someone on a youtube comment and I got someone trying to bully me because they didn't like me telling someone that they was in correct even though I gave an example of why this person was incorrect, the original person never responded back to me but this bully did

His ability to stay calm is probably what makes him an incredible doctor while standing up to some of the dumbest claims I've ever seen. I admire his ability to have compassion when dealing with tough situations.
I’m on the fence with this. Do I find it okay for random people to be telling a doctor they’re wrong? No, not really. But does this mean the doctor is always right? No. The last time I was seen by a doctor, he asked me when my last period was. I’m obese and have irregular periods. Usually, I get a period once or twice a year. Been that way for a long time and no other doctor I saw didn’t find it alarming. But this guy, a professional doctor, told me if I was pregnant and kept pushing that thought on me. “Are you sure you’re not pregnant?” No, sir. I’m a Virgin and have never even kissed a guy, let alone touch one sexually. I was nineteen at the time and so many people find it alarming to see someone my age not sexually active... on top of that, I’ve had doctors put their own opinion on me. Whenever I get sick and cough really bad, I use the Z pack which helps and generally takes it away within a week. One doctor I saw told me that it doesn’t work and prescribed me a bunch of medicine that took three times as long to heal. And finally, my sister has a heart condition and was seen by over a dozen doctors who took every test in the beginning. She couldn’t walk or stand, threw up every five minutes, and she fainted like three times a day. For a whole year, none of the doctors at the hospital knew what to do and told her that’s it’s all in her head and she should stop stressing out and take aspirin. She moved to another state and her boyfriend took her to another hospital where a year later after all that, they found out what was wrong with her and treated her correctly. So yeah... some doctors shouldn’t be in the medical field.
Because of political correctness. I am fat, I don't like it, but I do not mind if someone points it out. If there is someone who says that fat is healthy....get your facts in order. I don't sleep well, I can not move well, i get tired very quickly and I am "just" 10-12 kg overweight. In some more years doctors won't be allowed to tell you that you have cancer, because it will hurt your feelings.
It's because some people only achieve body positivity through denial. That is the #1 reason right there. A lot of fat people are completely aware of the very real health risks that come with being over weight and for some of them that makes it really hard not go through life hating that extra weight. Some fat people want so badly to feel good about their bodies that they strive for body positivity in the most mentally (and physically) unhealthy way possible, which is denial. This denial is a process that usually starts by looking for other fat people who have already achieved some level of body positivity. They observe these people and weed out the ones that take the "body positive while working to be healthier" approach because having to address the health aspect gets in the way of the goal. They then start focusing on fellow fat people who adamantly insist that they are perfectly healthy and who tend to cite bogus medical articles as their justification. Body positivity without denial DOES exist but only when people have psychologically healthy reasons behind it. People who just want to be told that they aren't actually unhealthy so that they can feel good about what they see in the mirror are the people who throw around "fatphobic" and insist that anybody who claims to care about their health is a liar who just hates fat people. Their friends and family can have been expressing concern for their health for years but as soon as they achieve unhealthy "body positivity" through denial they suddenly accuse those friends and family of just hating fat people. It's a really big problem that's becoming more and more common as more and more false information is spread. It's very unfortunate that this problem has also started to fuel the misconception that all fat people are in denial and just don't care about their health when that's not true at all.
My friend has already had a heart attack, but I'm scared to tell him to eat better because he'll think I'm judging him. I live in obese state so I'm actually seen as pretentious for caring about my own health in the first place.

@@consultantadanemarca2132 that has nothing to do with political correctness. they just are feeling shitty about their size in society and the body positive movement is an excuse to give up and not try anymore and since it has gotten so much popularity they stay reinforced with their believes. no political supports obesity. this isn't political. just idiots who don't want to admit they need help or feel like it won't change how other people see them.
People will literally argue they are healthy when they are clearly overweight, and that it's possible to continue being healthy while being so. They misunderstand that it's playing the odds, and the odds are stacked against them if they are overweight.

Doctors can learn a lot in their own fields. So can people in a lot of other fields. Doctor Mike agreed with this statement in the video. Initial medical training isn’t all encompassing, professionals should spend their careers continuously learning, as they are confronted with new challenges and because the field evolves constantly. I quite like Doctor Mike, and still feel he could still continue to learn about working with fat people and considering our bodies from a health at every size perspective. Not because his way is inherently or always wrong, or because I think he’s fatphobic, but because there are other approaches and considerations about obesity. There are a growing number of people who are living fat and healthy. He would do well to talk with an actual fat person/fat health advocate about this.

@z z they think it's just about appearance and letting themselves indulge in the bad eating habits is loving themselves bc it makes them feel good. I think the "body positivity" thing is actually just abt appearance bc the hourglass skinny body is what women are pressured to achieve. Like that's the reason for the mouvement. It's bc of the pressure society puts onto people to achieve the desired body or "body goals" and it's talking abt appearance. Loving yourself genuinely imo is taking good care of yourself, eating what's best for you, getting exercise and sleep and just listening to your body's needs in general. Not just doing what makes you feel good just to then have your excuse being body positivity

Overweight person here: My doctor reminds me every time I see him that I need to be exercising at least 30 mins a day with a raised heartrate. Eating healthier. Little things like that. He's a great doctor. We expect doctors to be honest with us. What are they gonna do? Stick their finger up your butt and compliment your colon instead of telling you about the lump? I've never thought people telling me I didn't need to lose weight were being nice or even being good, considerate friends. I'm 6'3, 315 lbs normally. Currently at 305. I appreciate Doctor Mike and doctors like him. We need more like him.
Some doctors actually need to be blunt sometimes. Like Mike said, adherence is an art that has been perfected yet. No doctor can force you or anyone for that matter to lose weight. I myself probably wouldn't take the advice so seriously if it was just another friendly reminder to do some exercise daily, cause that just lessens my view on the severity of the situation. We are talking about a condition that can not only shorten your lifespan, but also effect your participation in the things you love doing.
I'm personally not comfortable around "blunt" doctors. Obesity is a big problem and most obese people need a lot of support to loose weight. Some need mental help, some need regular check-ins, some need help with learning about nutrition. Every obese people has their own problems that need to be solved before they can succesfully loose weight. I personally have felt that more blunt doctors don't see me as an individual. I know what I should eat, I don't need to be reminded to eat more vegetables. I'm a lot more comfortable with a doctor who asks me how I feel about my weight and what kind of help I think I need.
I feel like there is a point in this that wasn‘t quite clear enough: He doesn‘t want you to lose weight because you‘re fat. He wants you to lose weight because the risks for certain health problems are so much higher if you‘re obese. Yes, you can be obese and live a healthy lifestyle, you can exercise, eat well, take good care of your body. But being at a healthy weight (not „skinny“, healthy.) still lowers certain health risks.
nobody cares if you're healthy though, just SKINNY. Thats why they take one look at you and judge you. THey don't ask what you eat and determine if its healthy. They just want you SMALLER.
Yes! And also you can be fat (according to your own standards, like not as skinny as you wish to be or whatever fat means for each indivudual), and doctors actually consider you to fall within a healthy weight. They would never tell you to lose weight in these kinds of situations.
👍💕 I can't image how many bad comments you all get and still keep on doing what you are doing. I have sooo much respect for all of you. I am no one who gets offended very easy, but reading some of those hate comments, even break my heart. Thanks for not giving up.

They don’t want people to die - They are deathphobic! But seriously, if you don’t trust doctors ask them for background. Ask them why they think something is a problem and discuss it. People who want to be always reassured will never develop and it applies to every “internet truth”.
I love the juxtaposition of “I don’t watch all the videos” BUT “I also have all of these opinions about things you stated in your videos...that I didn’t watch.”
It truly bothers me that, according to these kinds of people, if you are at all concerned with your physical fitness, then you are fat phobic. I've actually heard someone say that if you are a person that *isn't fat* then you're fat phobic. This is just insane to me.
As a queer person, that’s basically saying that if you’re not queer then you’re queerphobic (I️ was going to say the same thing about race but I’m white so I️ have no place bringing POC’s struggles in society into this (genuine)). Like that kind of cognitive dissonance or delusion or what have you is absolutely mind boggling to me
obese people can still look beautiful, so i really hope you're not implying that they're ugly. however, i agree that a doctor shouldn't dismiss problems that are very obviously there, especially if a patient comes in for help with said problem edit: PLEASE stop replying to this, it's a year old and i won't respond anymore, go do something better than talk to a brick wall

Probly Not: I don’t think calling people morons is gonna help the situation. They’re not a moron, they’re emotional, being emotional means you make mistakes, but making mistakes doesn’t make you a moron.
makes them fat-centric rather. Anything said that mentions the unhealthiness of being overweight is wholly discarded, even if it's from dozens of renowned physicians, doctors, nutritionists, etc. Anything said that says being overweight is fine and healthy is instantly accepted, even if it's from the random homeless person around the corner. And then they use the random person's quotes to negate the doctors' research, since those two have obviously equal value as truth. (sarcasm)
Vanesa: Right I agree with you, but pointing that out, isn’t something that will lessen the tension surrounding the issue, in fact, it’ll probably amplify it. I like Dr.Mike’s approach, he understands that where these people are coming from is a place of pain, and yet he acknowledges the fact that what they themselves are doing, is only causing more pain.
ikr like wtf. Being obese is clearly unhealthy and as a doctor, he needs to treat and advise people to be more healthy. Hes not fatphobic, he just wants the best for others. Yet egotistical people on the internet thinks they are smarter than a doctor
@@kindnessisalie5411 yup being fat is unhealthy, when I was fat fat, i could'nt even get up, my knee hurts, my chest feels tight sometimes, even though i am still fat today, but its better than before and I can see the changes straight away.
I’m a registered dietitian and I agree with every single point and explanation Dr. Mike provides in this video. Fat-phobia aside, both biologically and statistically, a morbidly obese status DOES increase risk for various diseases and health complications, which we are trying to clearly communicate to everyone. And as he said, the field of nutrition sciences is insanely complex and highly individualized to each patient and their lifestyle. He hit it right on the nail when he mentioned adherence. Society by default assumes we all have the same health goals in mind, but that’s why patient centered care is SO crucial since it allows for them to strive for what they truly desire in a sustainable, realistic way without any shame or judgment.
People are hurt and insecure that's why. Just a bunch of snowflakes who expect the world to change for them and do better rather then being THE change and doing better for yourself and the people around you.
Ikr.I feel majority of people are fat cuz they are lazy, and they just shift blame on others. Btw I'm lazy and overweight but I know it's cuz of me not cuz humanity invented fried chicken and potao chips LMFAO
I'm fat and there are fatphobic doctors out there but I don't feel they are in the majority. If I go to the doctor and speak about something that could very well be related to my weight I'm totally fine with them bringing it up or if I go to a checkup. I mean the whole point of the checkup is to talk about my overall condition. But I don't want to talk about my weight when I'm there with something acute that is not related to my weight when I know the doctor already. So if I'm there because I have an infected wound I don't want an assessment of my weight but if I'm at the gyno and they tell me I have high blood pressure than yeah absolutely do, that's the doctor's job. Just show a little compassion. So I don't get this criticism here either because as an obese person I never felt doctor Mike being fatphobic. I also don't get what's wrong with intermittent fasting. It's not for every one but for some people it works incredibly well to manage their calorie intake.
people don’t realize that when he says he wants to help people be “happy and healthy” he isn’t saying he wants to make them have a “bikini body.” he wants to help them lost weight so they can be at a healthy weight. not once does he say “skinny is healthy” because it’s not. a healthy weight is a healthy weight. you don’t need to be skinny to be healthy. you need to be at a healthy weight to be healthy.
Wow you're completely right. At this point, I think it deals with the person mindset and their correlation to the standards on society's perspective of "beauty" which they may believe is being skinny. Therefore, a simple inoffensive comment may come across as attacking when it's actually harmless and now dependent on how a person dissects it.
As someone struggling with weight the way you talked in this video made things much easier to understand. I wish more doctors took an approach like you do
Hmmm...I agree, but they do have a point that some of the diets he has tried out here are quite extreme and often lead to people developing eating disorders. Something like keto, for example, ist often practiced by people who don‘t understand the risks in unsafe ways and his videos did not really deal with that as much as they could have. So I can see the angle of: Maybe a popular TH-cam doctor shouldn’t be trying these because people will carelessly imitate him. Of course that doesn‘t mean he‘s fatphobic and I understand why he‘s done these videos- I just fear that they might do more harm than good.
Noah Maruschak sane I’ve gotten big and I know it’s unhealthy people need to get the stick out of their asses he’s not fatphobic for calling obese unhealthy as it is
As a fat woman, I've never seen fat shaming here. He has never pushed anything for medical advice and legally he cannot because of different body types, health and nutritional needs etc. Whoever wrote this is just trying to stab at someone.
To be honest, I don't see it either. I haven't seen every video, but my one issue is that not everyone coming in is looking for a holistic assessment of their health. To use the smoker example, yes, it's a huge health risk, but if a smoker comes in with a broken leg and the first thing the doctor wants to talk about is how many cigarettes the person smokes per day, it's just adding insult to injury. Can we deal with the immediate concern first?
I am also obese and I totally agree! He always watches his words very well and every time he talks about obesity etc. he is being very professional and sees/explains everything from a medical view. I have never felt attacked by him, but only educated.
Obese people tend to have problems with doctors, who blame their weight for all medical issues they might have, making it hard for them to get a proper diagnosis. Sadly some of them take it too far and don't understand that their weight can in fact be the reason for some medical issues
The reason for this is that things like the fat acceptance movement have made plenty of people, simply on there principles (Good or not) question if life in excess, or if obesity is actually unhealthy. The problem with this individual that Mike is talking about is that they simply, probably, do not believe that being fat is unhealthy. And Mike confronts them as if they think that, so mike is probably talking on deaf ears.
@@BFFforu To be fair being obese or simply not exercising, sleeping or eating properly on a regular basis is way worse in general than most of the examples I see of that hapenning, but I guess there's so true to that, some doctors don't know what is hapenning at home or anything and they don't treat obesity seriously enough, and the mental health issues or bad habits that probably lead to that. But still, it is fair to advice every obese patient to lose weight, they should just teach how.
“He’s fat phobic because he said ‘watch what you eat’” THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT HIM TO SAY, “eat whatever you want and don’t care about your cholesterol, sugar levels and others”???
I'm obese, I have a ton of illnesses because of this but I have lost 30kg and my health has improved. Even though I've done so well almost all medical professionals I see (including my long term gp) blames any illness I get including the flu on my weight even during flu season when everyone gets it. Keep doing what your doing.
Some people think that "watching what you eat" is code for anorexia. You and I (and most people) know, it just means making an effort to eat a balanced diet.

3 ปีที่แล้ว +28
It's not that they dont deserve it's that they WONT get it because they are fat. If they want to be loved or stop being made fun of they can get fit, but instead decide to continue obese and complaim about people not respecting them
@ see you’re just being fatphobic because someone’s state of health or weight is not a measure of how much they deserve respect. if you’re saying they need to lose weight to be respected, then you’re just a bad human being.
@ I mean if you ignore eating disorders and other medical conditions(physical or mental) that make people gain weight or have a hard time losing weight if you ignore all that then yea you're right
As a formerly obese person (110 pounds down), I can say that I also used to feel like people/doctors were insulting me/being "fatphobic", when they told me I needed to lose weight, but that mostly came from me not wanting to admit that I had a problem with overeating...because I didn't want to stop. Chronic backpain is gone, walking isn't exhausting and my circulatory problems have been much less frequent. Who could have known? Oh right, my doctors.
And then instead of publicizing people like you, all we hear about is that obese people's feelings got hurt, because they were told they need to lose weight to be healthy.
@V King that is actually a very interesting way to look at this; at least part of the problem to me seems to be, that a lot of people with such problems choose to be in denial, since it is mich easier, than admitting there is a problem and doing something about it. Seems like they learn to live with the problem and make it a part of their identity, at which point trying to point out to them, that what they are doing is wrong leads to being accused of personally attacking them
@V King wouldn't even say it's necessarily about the food or eating. I'd say I am addicted to the happiness i connected with eating. I ate junk food whenever I felt sad, bored or just dissatisfied with life, and it made me feel a little better. I have to be very conscious about what I eat, otherwise I fall back into my old eating patterns. So yeah, telling me what makes me "happy" is wrong, felt like a personal attack in a way.
@@woolyvaro7814 our behaviour around food is so connected to other things. I think for a lot of people, the reasons behind the weight gain need to be investigated. It could be medical. It could be emotional, behavioural, a lot of things. I think we still don't know enough about it. There are theories about gut biome, about the effect c sections have on that, about breastfeeding vs bottle feeding and the impact that can have too. Research and knowledge are emerging all the time. I'm really glad your back pain is gone, and that you were able to do that yourself. I think it can be really hard for people to lose weight and that's something that needs to be tailored individually, if people are ready to do it. There's so much shame around our bodies that needs to be unpacked too.
That whole comment sounded completely stupid to me honestly...these type of doctors are rare and there's someone out there whose willing to bring a non-existent quality to light and make a scene out of it 😐
He’s a freaking doctor. It’s almost universal knowledge that obesity is literally a killer. The man took vows. He spent years upon years in school. He’s not making stuff up. To quote John Mulaney, “it seems like everybody, everywhere, is really mad about everything ALL THE TIME.” Come on people... 🙄
What is fat shaming: “if you’re fat and happy you are a TERRIBLE INFLUENCE and you should be MISERABLE and hide from social media until you lose weight” What is not fat shaming: “Having an obese/morbidly obese BMI has some health risks, and everyone should care about their nutrition”
I think the issue is that the parameters for "obese" are really vague, and BMI doesn't take anything but height and weight into account. For example I am technically considered obese, but I am a size 10 and have perfect blood pressure and am considered extremely healthy by the doctor I go to. Obese doesn't necessarily mean unhealthy, but it can in some cases.
@@finleybriggs-webb4158 BMI is and always has been an approximation... a rule of thumb... If the BMI gives a warning sign and you're not eg. muscular, you go have a talk with your doctor about it, who then takes that more comprehensive look at your weight and overall health and then if you're in good health as you, they'll probably tell you not to worry about it.
@@finleybriggs-webb4158 BMI fails to be accurate mostly only in people who have a lot of muscle mass. If you're 400lbs and you're not a powerlifter or something, then BMI obviously is right when it says you're morbidly obese.
Dr Mike talks sense and the truth, from a medical and logical perspective. Some people don’t like hearing the truth! BMI is a dangerous measurement tool but is sadly quoted all to often.
kinda crazy how when non-doctors say this stuff their defence is “you’re not a doctor” but when a doctor says it it’s “you don’t know what you’re taking about”.
It just shows you how weak, pathetic and thin skinned our society has become. Everyone wants to be coddled. Nobody wants to be held accountable for their own actions.
I am overweight and recently motivated to do something about it. It can be a difficult subject if you aren't in a place to hear or talk about the issue. That doesn't make the person discussing it fatphobic. I appreciate Dr. Mike and his open and honest conversation on all topics. I wish more doctors practiced medicine like him.
@ He is doing his job at the hospital. o.O So doctors shouldn't make youtube videos because it automatically means they are just advertising themselves? That makes no sense.
That post really said: "I don't know doctor Mike, I don't watch most of his videos, I don't do my research even if I watched his videos, I don't have any context or background to what he says, so I'll just take pieces of what he has said and make a post critiquing him."
He has spent years studying and doing the research about this stuff. People think few days on internet reading some blogs and articles on website is research. Do that "research" for 6 months and one still wouldn't know as much as he does. I still get surprised by seeing how stupid people can be.
@@lordzoltan8903 it's always like that. When someone is good and is trying to help, there is always someone out there who will try to bring you down.. Not just for this but in general
It's ridiculous. There's a segment of the body positivity movement that has warped into a celebration of obesity. When the reddit poster and those supporting the post say 'fatphobic' I suspect they mean that being any level of overweight shouldn't be seen as harmful, which is simply never going to be backed by medical science. Excess weight is never not harmful in some way for the human body (animals, too). I hate that he even felt the need to respond - I say this as a fat girl who doesn't hate herself, but knows I need to do better for my health and I don't get butthurt when my doctor points it out.

Because they think "fat at any size" and that you can eat anything while still being healthy
The thing I'm fond of about Dr. Mike's advocacy isn't the message itself but how empathetic he is delivering the message. He knows from the patients he's had the struggles of diets and whatnot which made him very sympathetic towards people who struggle with the mental part of weight loss for obese people (which is the biggst hurdle really; since dieting is the only real thing you'll need for weight loss unless say you got a couple pounds of sagging skin where physical activity will be welcome)
He even sympathizes well enough for those who pretty much get harsh words from others' doctors

Yes, and since they're right, the doctor is the one that needs learn more.. 🙄
Why go to the doctor in the first place when they already know better than the doctor smh
@zarK I’m pretty sure that’s sarcasm
*@zharK
Why do some people act like having a high amount of fat isn't a detriment to your health? He just wants people to be healthy.
Consultanta Danemarca not just being pc but because of the fat-shaming that can come with it, even from doctors
It's really disturbing that someone would call you fatphobic for encouraging people to watch what they eat (i.e. eat healthily).
That’s what I’m sauong
If you call people “fatphobic” your the real problem

It's bc of the pressure society puts onto people to achieve the desired body or "body goals" and it's talking abt appearance. Loving yourself genuinely imo is taking good care of yourself, eating what's best for you, getting exercise and sleep and just listening to your body's needs in general. We expect doctors to be honest with us. What are they gonna do? Stick their finger up your butt and compliment your colon instead of telling you about the lump?

My doctor is blunt but compassionate at the same time with that kind of stuff.
Finally, someone who understands that compliments for obesity are bad. It's like telling an alcoholic they're more fun when they drink.
@@mostafaabdulkarim9176 Great comparison.👍
I'm personally not comfortable around "blunt" doctors. Obesity is a big problem and most obese people need a lot of support to loose weight. Some need mental help, some need regular check-ins, some need help with learning about nutrition. Every obese people has their own problems that need to be solved before they can succesfully loose weight. I personally have felt that more blunt doctors don't see me as an individual. I know what I should eat, I don't need to be reminded to eat more vegetables. I'm a lot more comfortable with a doctor who asks me how I feel about my weight and what kind of help I think I need.
I feel like there is a point in this that wasn‘t quite clear enough:
He doesn‘t want you to lose weight because you‘re fat.
Exactly thank you ♥️♥️

makes them fat-centric rather.
(sarcasm)

The AUDACITY one must have to tell a medical professional that he still has a lot to learn in his field because he is “fatphobic” is just beyond me.
Dumb man dumb man yea that's themm

My mom is now waaaaay healthier, more mobile, independent, she has a better relatationship with her loved ones and with food. Suggesting this kind of interventions is not fat shaming or fat phobic. Honestly, kuddos to you Dr. Mike for keeping your cool. some people are ridiculous!
‘this person doesn’t deserve a good life because they are overweight’ -fatphobia
‘this person’s weight can compromise the life and health they deserve’ -concern based on science
Where’s my Bible and Jesus’s phone number because you are preaching
It's not that they dont deserve it's that they WONT get it because they are fat. If they want to be loved or stop being made fun of they can get fit, but instead decide to continue obese and complaim about people not respecting them
@ see you’re just being fatphobic because someone’s state of health or weight is not a measure of how much they deserve respect. if you’re saying they need to lose weight to be respected, then you’re just a bad human being.
@ I mean if you ignore eating disorders and other medical conditions(physical or mental) that make people gain weight or have a hard time losing weight if you ignore all that then yea you're right
Denied, her 1 hr research on “love your body even if it’s killing you” clearly trumps all science duhhh 😂
Seems like they learn to live with the problem and make it a part of their identity, at which point trying to point out to them, that what they are doing is wrong leads to being accused of personally attacking them
Dude good job!!!

Imagine having to explain that being obese is unhealthy…what type of twilight zone are we living in?!?!

PC culture sucks.
@@finleybriggs-webb4158 Then you're not obese.
@@finleybriggs-webb4158 he said in the video that it takes more than just looking at the number on a scale but the person as well
@@finleybriggs-webb4158 BMI fails to be accurate mostly only in people who have a lot of muscle mass. If you're 400lbs and you're not a powerlifter or something, then BMI obviously is right when it says you're morbidly obese.
