That's lovely! I watch channels with people from Ukraine and I can definitely see a lot of similarities with Romania (though I think life in Romania is strangely more expensive). I will definitely google Arcom. I am not sure who built the building I live in.
Thank you for the tour of your home in Bucharest. I am in Sydney, Nova Scotia which is Canada. I completely agree with your comment on the efficiency of cast iron radiators. I live in a restored older home in the city center which was built over one hundred years ago. I did keep these radiators in the upstairs rooms as they keep the space very comfortable during our winters. I look forward to more of your videos
Hello, Deb and greetings from Romania! I know exactly what you mean. I was raised at my grandmother's place, which is in an apartment building from 1930. My Mom was always very passionate about keeping most of it's elements intact: it has a huge french glasvand door, all the rooms have the original cast iron heaters, the floor tiles are from the time it was built. In my home I have also kept the bathtub which is cast iron as well. Was thinking of painting it at some point but I have to say I am not that happy with the idea - not sure how safe it is. Especially since you then expose it to heat, steam and so on

Hi from Ireland .I have just found your channel. I would love to see some traditional Romanian dishes. I have recently become friends some people from Romania and would like to surprise them with a meal .
Hi, Edward! Ah, such a beautiful country you live in. I've always enjoyed watching movies filmed in Ireland, so much green, fairy tail scenery! I actually came across a Michael Flately tape when I was younger and I still know the entire show by heart. :D A video about Romanian food is definitely on my list.
Hi Thanks for the tour of your lovely home. It’s so interesting to see how other peoples live and we are all so much alike in our homes and things we collect. Best wishes & God Bless.

Hey, thank you for joining! Australia looks like an awesome place tbh. It looks clean and filled with nature (and legend has it, by spiders and other critters :)) ). I have an Australian girl that I've been following on youtube for a couple of years: Sarah's day. And I get to see some bits and pieces from your lovely country. Not sure where she lives, though.

I thought it was funny when she was trying to show "how to die hair by moving the mirrors." It didn't show well in the video, but I know EXACTLY she meant, because I use that trick with my bathroom mirrors to cut my hair, haha! Sometimes it's those human moments of a video that really makes them memorable.
Hello! I live in a small space too, but i have created a nice decorated space for me...if the house is yours, or if you are allowed to make changes you can paint it, or you can paint the old stuff in it and it will look like new! you don't have to spend a lot of money or so to buy a lot of stuff, you can create beautiful space with the things you already have, just remodel them! For example you can paint white the bathroom, there are paints for bathroom tiles that are very economic, and it will look like a new bathroom(i am just telling some ideas). You don't have to be rich or have an enormous house to make it look nice for you❣
You are so right, Mary. I am constantly trying to make very small changes that will improve the way the apartment looks. The number one thing I have been doing for the past year has been constant decluttering and getting rid or things that I do not use (clothes, papers, miscellaneous etc). I have also just found a closet door at Ikea (Grimo), with a huge discount (it was around 6$), which I am hoping to use as a headboard to help cover up the deteriorated part of the wall as well as prevent further damage. I am considering painting the bathroom although a fresh start would be better for it as the walls are a bit swollen and crooked.
@@lifeinromania1688 yes, that is a very good idea! You can also paint old furniture so you do not need to buy new ones! I have done it to my apartment and they looked amazing! So if you have any old furniture somewhere, you can buy sandpaper to rub them and then paint them with a colour you like. Its a fun process and also renew your space with the minimum cost!
Thank you for sharing your cute little apartment. It is interesting to see how people live in other countries. I have not travelled across the Atlantic but enjoy National Geographic
Hello, Debra. So I understand you are from the U.S? Thank you for your supportive words. I know exactly what you mean, I really enjoy seeing different places and day to day lives of people from different cultures, as well. Greetings from Romania!
Hey, Norm. Thank you for stopping by and for your support! Haven't been to Canada but I have a friend who lives there and it seems like such a beautiful country!
I have a large single family home now, but also raising 5 kids. With kids, I want them to have their own space. Kids crowded=bickering 24/7 lol. For just me, when they grow up (I'm widowed), that is all the space I'd need. For me alone, just a few rooms of peace and quiet would be perfect.
Balance is everything in these situations. In a way I would have really liked having such a big family like yours! But also a tiny place where I could escape for a day or two if needed. 😸
I have a strange relationship with cleaning. Grew up in an apartment in a very old building. The apartment was huge and filled with stuff, furniture etc. It was impossible to get it cleaned up all the way through. Growing up I became more and more of a minimalist because of this. I can go into super cleaning mode or to super procrastinating mode :))

Of course little bit tourist stuff, but not too much. Useful was also the info when you show the bus terminal, from where people can go to this castle in last video. Thank you for sharing your lovely apartment! I lived in a 1960s Yugoslav building when I lived in Sarajevo, BiH and this looks very similar--more so than the apartments that I experienced during my time in Russia. I now live in Washington, D.C., USA and your "tiny" kitchen is twice the size of mine! I live in a very small studio in a 1930s Art Deco building, but in one of the nicest and liveliest neighborhoods in DC, so it is a trade off.
Hey, Megan so great that you have gathered this much experience. We actually have some really nice Art Deco buildings in Bucharest, as well. One of them is a very famous hotel. Happy to hear that my kitchen is NOT the tiniest ever :)) Looking at other people's (huge) apartment tours I did feel juuust a bit apprehensive sharing my place

Thanks for showing your apartment. I visited Romania in 1993 but not Bucharest. Your English is very good. When I was there the water didn't run all the time and people filled their bathtubs with water so they'd have some for their needs when it wasn't running. Does it run all the time now?
Hello and thank you for watching! Yes, throughout my life I always had running water. Only in the past few years, because the city piping system is very old and they are trying to fix it, there are neighborhoods that go through long periods of time with no hot water or heat. Which is horrible during the winter. My neighborhood went through this last winter and just a little bit this winter. Very difficult and infuriating for everyone. Not to mention the electric bill goes through the roof because we have to use heaters etc.
Hey! Sorry to hear that. Hoping to get it remodeled in the next few years. p.s. I am a big fan of white so no more tile patterns. I actually spent a few years of my childhood here (my first home after I was born). Then the place was rented for a long time. Then I came back here 13 years ago..
Yes, I definitely have that planned - the new apartment in Bucharest idea. There are so many types of apartments and homes here: from super poor and super tiny, to million dollar homes.
I think the best apartments where built in the center of the Bucharest next to the House of People, in the late 80 s for the communist comunity... The House of People is the second largest buildind in the world.. After the 89 revolution those apartaments were sold to average people.. Now most are rent for tourists... And in the north area next to Herăstrău Park. Bigger in square, more rooms, western concept like kitchen island, but also more expensive.. You have also duplex and penthouses.. Not so ok are the ones that are made nowadays like the ones in the suburby or downtown... Less intimacy, less space... You can see the neighbours balcony
@@dianaconstantinescu9986 I worked in Militari Residence and I had that exact feeling of living with my neighbour. The apartments were sooo close to each other.

Hello! I am glad you enjoyed it. I am lucky enough to live in a rather good, central area. The studio is 37 sqm and costs around 270 euros/month. It is a rather large sum compared to Romanian salaries. But my studio was bought by my mother more than 35 years ago, during the communist regime, when prices were way more down to Earth than now. Hello! First time on your channel. I am interested in your life. I am originally from Budapest, Hungary but live in the United States since 1957. Are you employed? Do you rent your apartment or did you buy it? How much is rent per month or to buy it? Is Bucharest safe? My sister-in-law is from Romania but lived close to Hungary so she speaks fluent Hungarian. My father was born in Szeged, Hungary so he went back and forth to Romania. I believe one time long ago these two countries were one. Correct me if I’m wrong. Do Romanian students learn English in school? Thank you and please don’t mind me asking many questions but I am curious and want to learn.
Your lack of basic history knowledge is out of this world - Hungary and Romania were one country? When was that? :)) If you want to learn a thing or two you can find "Memorialul durerii" on TH-cam and you can see all the bad things that the Hungarians did when they occupied Romania - all the killings and so on...and now the leftovers are living in an area where almost nobody can find work or the salaries are low - so basically even now that population is kept poor by their leaders that promise to them all the time the union with Hungary just to get elected.
Hey, Joseph. This place was bought by my mom when I wasn't even born. Back then the prices were a bit more down to Earth. Rent in this particular area is around 300 euros. I am not sure how much it would cost to buy a place here but looking on real estate websites, people seem to be asking around 60,000 euros. But this is not a typical price for a studio in Bucharest (they're usually lower). This area is a bit more atypical. Yes, a lot of Romanian kids are taught English in school and most of us know how to speak English. If you ever visit Bucharest you would be able to communicate with almost everyone here. I am happy to hear you have Romanians in your family! And, yes, from my point of view Bucharest is mostly a safe space. Perhaps just try to avoid driving here as some people can get quite angry in traffic :))

You are a lovely girl, and this brings me to what I was actually thinking during the time I watched our video. The is not a great deal of work and neither investment in order to give an aesthetical lift to your apartment. I am sure you have some male friends, you must have. For a few seconds I felt a bit ashamed with my male Romanian compatriots who are your friends and are not helping you, not even with drilling a few holes and help you hung those cabinets. What a shame! Anyway, you are a lovely girl and I am sure you have your own reasons for not asking for help. Cheers girl, and keep the videos and ideas coming.
Hey, Costel si multumesc ca urmaresti! I do have some great people in my life and the cabinet is now officially and finally up on the wall and looking great. My goal in the near future would be to find some cheap ways to switch up some things that will improve how the place looks. For larger renovations I unfortunately have to wait as I am only working part time at the moment and have some other priorities financially. But I am very optimistic that I can still do some nice stuff with smaller amounts. 🥰

Hello! So nice to hear you have been here. Yes, Bucharest does have quite a lot of issues though I am using my videos to try and get myself to focus on the good side of the city. The dog situation has been managed (in a horrible manner) but there are no more dogs on the streets. Yes, the city is a very interesting architectural mix, with some soviet influences that makes it resemble parts of Russia and Bulgaria. p.s. about the mask, unfortunately it has been mandatory. Trust me, I m not the biggest fan. Especially since tons and tons of people around me are getting infected, even with wearing masks and vaccinations and so on. I have 10 friends and family members who got covid in the past few weeks. Myself included. Fortunately everyone is ok.
There are no more dogs or gangs on the street since more than 10 years I think 🤔 The dogs…. Hmmm let’s just say that they been killed by the city hall because they been to incompetent to find a different solution. And the kids gangs I guess mostly was about the homeless gypsy kids that now they grow up and they go abroad to the west for a better life. Bucharest has improved a lot last 10 years, but of course there are still issues mainly the horrible traffic (every Romanian and his dog have a car 🤣) and the overall infrastructure for pedestrians and bicycles.

Wow, so houses and villas were torn down for a bunch of these complexes with puny apartments. Communism sucks. I have 2,200 square feet. I worked for it and pay for it. I would hate for my government to take it from me.
Hey, Donna! Unfortunately, yes. During those times they built a lot, a lot of factories and brought in people from smaller cities and rural areas to work in them. And in order to accomodate those people, they tore down houses and villas to built these complexes. Fortunately, I actually live in an area that has pretty large studios and apartments and that also has plenty of quieter streets with charming houses.

I have the same doors in my flat in Ukraine))). My flat was built in 1997 by romanian company "ARCOM S.A."
Especially since you then expose it to heat, steam and so on
I like your bathroom..it is very nice.. I am from America, USA and I really like your apartment.

Interesting! keep posting 😊
Than you so much. I just posted a new video.
💜💜💜

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Norm from Canada.
Thanks for the tour the place is alot cleaner than mine. Time for me to clean. If the building is sound earthquake proof.

Hello and thank you for watching! Yes, throughout my life I always had running water. Only in the past few years, because the city piping system is very old and they are trying to fix it, there are neighborhoods that go through long periods of time with no hot water or heat. Can you make a video about new apartments in Bucharest or about buildings by "ARCOM S.A."??))))

Cost in US Dollars would be nice. 2022 prices for such a place ?
For renting around 300$, for this particular area. For buying, around 75k. People seem to be asking for that amount but I am not sure if others are actually buying. The prices vary a lot from one area to another. You can buy studios for 40k, as well.

Hey! I considered doing this video because I enjoy watching these types of videos myself. Especially when it comes to people documenting their lives in countries different than mine. I love seeing how other people who share this kind of content live, what traditions they have, what types of food they eat and so on. I know it is modest but it is my home at the moment. And the interesting part is that I am sure there are people who are watching this that live in much better conditions just like there are people who have messaged me saying they live in poor conditions and would love to live where I live. It's just a documentation of regular life.

Hello! Well, I'm guessing it depends on every person's preference.
Almost ...not. Just a very few . It's not usual or standard.

Greetings from Barcelona ! It most certainly brought me back on the memory-lane (borough of Dristor - Salajan).
was in bucuresti more than a 10 years ago, at friends flat near bucuresti nord train station..it was still like ex soviet ambient, which i liked..flat of this age is like classic interior style.i remember dogs all over the streets and gangs of little children..was planning to go even further to kisinev but didnt have visa..was nice time in bucharest.greetings from croatia..and dont wear the mask outside, dont accept being under this vaccination terror.
There are no more dogs or gangs on the street since more than 10 years I think 🤔
The dogs….
@@lifeinromania1688 will probably travel once again to bucharest and down to moldova, shame for the dogs, i kind liked that street ambient over there, like true balkan style.greeting from Sibenik

Hi- I wish to come to Bucharest for about a fortnight in may. Will u give me company , and also help me find an appt to stay. I can pay for your services. Thx Gabs
Hello! I would be more than happy to. I actually just did my first Bucharest tour with two lovely ladies from the UK last week. I helped them out with their vacation - found acommodations, recommended restaurants, parks and sightseeing tours. I have just created an instagram account. Have a beautiful day!

Diffusere are dangerous for cats. Please dont use them.
Hey, Yannick. Thank you for taking the time to share this with me. I actually use the diffuser quite rarely and use around 2-3 drops of food grade (can be ingested) essential oils for the entire diffuser. I always thought this would be safe for humans and pets alike.
You are very sweet ♥
Thank you for the kind words. :)
@@lifeinromania1688 : oh please. De ce aceasta tendință de a exagera ? Situația caselor in Bucuresti era dezastruoasa. Insalubritate , case intr- o râna, o cișmea in mijlocul curții si 3 familii care o utilizau ...and so on. Lumea are memorie selectivă.
Numai bine .
@@cameliap1146 Interesant ca asta s-a inteles. Am scris "houses and villas'. Nu vile de lux. Recunosc ca nu am asistat la daramarea lor, stiu doar din povestiri. Iar in clip faceam referire la zona in care stau eu, unde nu erau doar case intr-o rana. SI nu am zis nicio secunda ca este rau ca au fost daramate. Chiar iubesc blocul in care stau.
Reiterez.
