- Ever wondered what is involved in the manufacture of a high quality aluminum mountain bike frame? It turns out they're very complex!
In this video, we get the low-down from the main Scott Engineer involved in the design of their new Scott Genius Alloy frame, Étienne Chaloin. He gives us the run through of all the interesting and surprising stages that go into the manufacture of their frames.

I've got a 2022 Scott Spark aluminum and the frame is very similar. I'm blown away by the technical difficulty of producing these bikes. Good job Scott, these deserve recognition for pushing the boundaries of this process.
They've put some effort in, that's for sure!

That,s the video that I was waiting for, I have a 2022 Spark and I couldn't belive the level of details in the unions of the aluminum tubes. Big thanks and congratulations to Scott for that detail level and dedication!
That frame is a work of art! I'd love to see a factory tour and the people doing each step. Forming/welding etc.

A great video and insight into how they're engineered and manufactured, I've got this model and absolutely love it, I've just got back into the sport (at 55 years young 😃), after seeing other manufacturers incorporating "on bike" storage it would've been good if Scott had done this also, plenty of room in the bottom tube.Still love it though 👍

Love this stuff, it almost looks like aluminum bikes are just as hard to make as carbon bikes
We were surprised too! Made us respect the alloy bikes more, that's for sure.
It is pretty clear to me that carbon frames are simple by comparison.
Most alloy conventional tubing bikes are actually very hard to make. It takes more skill to weld than to lay carbon fiber.

@@fuellerr more finishing involved, and the raw materials are much more expensive. and you need many more pieces of carbon to make a piece than aluminium. there hundreds of carbon pieces all cut to precision in comparison.

I have a carbon scott ransom, and I don't like it as much as I liked the aluminum genius...I'm slower on the trail...I'm always afraid that I'll fall and break the carbon frame, I didn't have that fear with the aluminum frame..The next bike must be AL ..I really like this model from the video

You're in luck - check out the Genius 940
I would take that 2001 version any day of the week! I’m not a big fan of “ hidden “ suspension. And 7005 is the ultimate aluminum, it is the premium alloy. 6061 is the generic aluminum used on cheaper bikes. 7005 needs no heat treatment so it won’t compromise the frame. 7005 is hard to come by these days as it’s made with zinc. ( 90 % ) which makes it more expensive.Plus it’s harder to weld 7005 as you need better precision when welding it.
How many hours they invest to build this frame?
Get rid of all the lock out levers, bc the look is rad and I’d buy one with just the normal shifter/dropper set up.
This alloy frame looks like its as expensive as a carbon frame... why even make it at that point? It is super cool though. well done!
They still bring the alloy frames in at cheaper price points than the carbon fiber, but it does seem like an expensive way to make a frame with so many different processes.
With shapes like this I’ll take aluminum over carbon all day

The Lexon frames are not the same as the Scott frames.
