I’m not an expert chef but really like to cook and love eating duck. I was looking for a recipe for roast duck and was a little intimidated, but the fork on skin in your video was what sold me. I looked at a lot of recipes and many with unappealing photos and talking about a 3 -4 hour roasting time. Your recipe stood out as making sense👍 Thanks😋
The Celsius temperature should be 190°C!! Kristin had a little too much of the port wine 🍷 when doing the conversion 😆 Do you have a duck in your freezer too? This is an awesome and EASY way to use it! Thank you so much for cooking this yummy dinner with me 😍
When I saw onions and the juices still sizzling in the baking pan I was like, “How?” then two seconds later I was like, “oh duh you turned on the stove, haha!” That’s clever! Less dishes to wash. This dish looks incredible! 👍🏼❤️
Kristin, your Roasted duck and potatoes recipe must be good!!! You are still getting good comments three years later!!! Wish me luck, on the the 25th Dec: 2023 I will cooking our duck following your recipe!!! Merry Christmas:
Greetings from the U.K. - this will be my 2020 Christmas recipe. I love the fact your kitchen looks well used and normal, rather than one of these professional palaces that look like no one ever really uses them.
Just roasted a duck for first time with the potatoes and it was amazing and really crispy/juicy. I dried the duck over night and it looked a bit freaky, but that was the trick! Best duck recipe ever👍
You are amazing Peter!! Thank you so much for this comment 💕 for some reason the duck scared people 😆... this is hands down my favorite recipe on here!!
Thank you! Exactly what I'm going to do for Christmas. No mention of when to add the vinegar but others on Utube seem to carefully mix it in with the Port wine. Merry Christmas!
I tried your recipe today and it was delicious. I was skeptical at first but it was a success. My son and my husband loved it. We enjoyed the potatoes as well. What brand is your roasting pan? I'd like to get one like yours. TIA
It is the night before Thanksgiving. I am sick and alone, but wanted to cook something nice for just me. This is easy enough that I can manage it even being sick. Thanks so mucb.
@@KristinatMiniSliceoffarm I cooked the potatoes already for tomorrow. I am on the other side of the globe so out Thursday is your Wednesday. Living in an Islamic country and no wine is easy to get here so I am going to skip it. I will let you know how this comes out.
@@KristinatMiniSliceoffarm Well, I think I do have some. Thanks. I am so hungry for that nice crispy duck now. And so much easier than a turkey. Of course, I am no longer cooking for a big family either, but this is a great alternative. I will let you know how it comes out. Happy Thanksgiving.
Do you poke the skin with a fork before letting it dry out? I've seen several recipes with that step - to make sure the fat renders. I didn't see you do it here, but maybe I missed it.
@@KristinatMiniSliceoffarm Thank you so much! What does the internal temperature need to be. Was the total cooking time 1.5 hours? Some of the other recipes I have viewed suggest longer cooking times but they look way over done to me. Yours looked perfect!
@@seekingtruth323 cook until 155°F internally then let rest, the carryover temp will get it to 160°F which is what we are looking for. Yes, 1 hour and 30 min total.
This roast duck recipe is the best I’ve ever seen

Do you have this recipe written out somewhere? It looks delicious!
When do you use the Apple cider vinegar?
Comment # 2, the potatoes cooked in duck fat are to die for. YUMMY...
They are a match made in heaven 💕 so yummy 😋
My potatoes were bigger than the ones you used in the video and turned to mush after 30 minutes in boiling water. Also, when do you add the vinegar?
Yummy
Thank you Diane! 😊
You had mentioned vinegar, but I did not see you add it anywhere.
Do you poke the skin with a fork before letting it dry out? I've seen several recipes with that step - to make sure the fat renders. I didn't see you do it here, but maybe I missed it.
Hi Jon! No, I don't. It renders without poking it with a fork and gives you much juicier meat this way 😋
@@KristinatMiniSliceoffarm I usually pour boiling water over and in the duck, about 10 cups, dry and place in the fridge. Oh my the skin is amazing!
So when you take out your duck from the fridge. Do you wait for the duck gets room temperature then you put in the herbs and onions?
No need to wait, you can do it right away.
Pretty much all food safety experts in the US suggest *not* washing your fowl. It just splashes any bacteria around your kitchen.
Did you turn the duck when roasting? It looked like the duck went into the oven breast side down and came out breast side up
No, I left it breast side up for the full cooking duration. That fat cap on the breast will marinate and keep the meat juicy that way 😋
375 'F for how long?
Could you throw some oranges in the cavity with the onion and a splash of cointreau in with the port? Would that go well do you think?
Yes!! Sounds delicious 😋
I flipped the duck so we’ll see how it goes
Wild duck or Goose.
I feel you didn’t really give the full instructions. Could you please
make the recipe more clear.
Hi Carrie, can you be a bit more specific? I can help walk you through it in the comments

You said to cook at 375 but did not say for how long
45 minutes, then Another 45 minutes. ☆
The potato is way overcooked you can bake or oven
