Alex, I'm glad you now have access to these premium vehicles through your new partnerships. I enjoy your reviews, and those of Sofyan at Redline immensely. Keep up the great work.
Alex is back with another professional review. Love that you are getting nicer and nicer cars these days but still keep the review "real world" style. Keep up the good work!
Alex, for all of the reason you just stated, I would also prefer this model over the new M5. For the always present naysayers out there, BMW is always within the top 10 ranked vehicles per J.D. Power and Consumer Reports, to name a few. Excellent review.
This is a great review I ended up purchasing one of these CPO and your description is spot on. This car‘s best feature is as well rounded nest and its ability to transform from either end of the spectrum at the push of a button. If you have the car in comfort mode the shifts are so smooth you can’t feel them the car is quiet and it drives like an upscale luxury vehicle. At the push of a button the suspension tightens the exhaust flaps open the throttle mapping changes in the car transforms into a beast. While it lacks the brutality of the M5 there is no denying at the M550 is a performance monster. You get the best of both worlds in one car luxury cruiser and when you enter sport plus mode do you have an upscale hard-core sport sedan. When you factor in how much less expensive this is compared to an M5 and you look at how affordable they are on the used market it is an amazing vehicle for the money.
How reliable has yours been? I'm strongly considering getting a used M550i, although am also intrigued by the M340i as its similar 0-60 and some say could be more reliable?
@@tominator3 I’ve had my car now approximately one year and I’ve put 20,000 miles on it it has been bulletproof! And believe me I drive it hard! The performance between the M550 and M340 are similar if you just look at the numbers - but the way the car feels is completely different. I had test driven many cars including the M340, F80 M3, and F90 M5. The biggest difference you’ll notice between the five series and the three-series platform is that the three series is noticeably smaller inside it will feel much more nimble if you’re going around tight twisty roads. However if you sit in an M550 and compared to the M340 - The level of luxury and refinement and quality in the five series completely blows the three series away. I really wanted to get either a used F80 or a new M340… once I test drove the M550 I changed my mind. But it comes down to what you need and what you want I am about 50 years old I have kids and a larger car suits my needs better and I am older and feel like a more upscale executive looking car suits my needs more than a smaller car. If you care more about the car feeling light and possible in corners and you care less about refinement and luxury and cruising go for the M340. They are very different cars you need to test drive them back to back as close as you can and I think you’ll immediately know which one you want more. They are both excellent cars it’s not really a matter of which one is better it’s just which one fits your needs more. Good luck!
Alex...excellent review. Glad to hear the comment regarding a well balanced luxury performance sedan...too many reviewers get caught up in total performance numbers. Face it, most drivers are not using their daily drivers on the track....I agree, this is a much better balanced vehicle than an m5
Ray Thomas, my thought on the amount of and the variations in their models, is that they don’t really have a downmarket/upmarket brand that appeals to a different buyer, therefore, they have to appeal to anyone that may be shopping a Bimmer vs another make that does have a downmarket channel, a la Japanese and now Korean makes. Oh! Let’s not forget Audi with their VW downmarket channel. It also keeps the factories running. They definitely don’t want to slow down any manufacturing due to market forces, they’d rather force the maker DUE to their manufacturing, keeping that perfect balance of supply and demand. I know it seems like a lot but really, it’s just my two cents. LOL!
I always like Alex review, even if I go through other review conclude the same finally watching Alex. Very thorough and authoritative nd attention to details. Gives me a comfort on understanding
If I were 20 years younger I might buy this; I had an E39 M5 and, at least to date, that was the best car I ever owned. Unfortunately, at my age, this M550i (and the new M5) is too long and low for me. Can't drop myself into it, more difficult to park and I have to worry about every sloped driveway and parking bumper. I realize these things are not a consideration to most drivers (which I understand completely) but this tendency of BMW to make the 5-series longer and lower is bumming me out. :)
I really liked how to filmed the idrive without flicker. Great choice on the frame rate. This sounds like the f30, not a standout in anything but good overall. Wish you did the comparison chart at the end
Awesome review as always Alex! I have the F10 M5 now and holding out for the new M5, but sounds like I should definitely check out the M550i now. The F10 M5's suspension isn't too bad in comfort mode for me, I think maybe the one you drove had the competition package which was firm even in comfort mode.
My last 550’s were excellent. Although the engine needed replacing at 36,000 miles. So glad I leased it. Anybody know if they fixed the N63 v-8 engines? Their was a hefty lawsuit against BMW which means nothing to BMW. The V-8 is nice if you drive allot of long distance highway miles but I concluded its a waste for local around town driving. The V-8 just massaged my ego.
In process of buying this car, deposit down. My 3rd used BMW 550. My 1st I got with 55k miles and ended with 255k. 2nd got flood damage. They will be much more expensive to operate as premium gas, expensive tires, and expensive repairs if something goes wrong. I have a mechanic that specializes in BMWs...I don't think I would buy one if I didn't have that near me. His work has been phenomenal for the 15+ years I've had these. Keep in mind few mechanics outside of BMW will be able to work on these as they need specialized equipment etc. A top line headlight unit can cost 3k...so I had no blinker in my front for a while on my last, because I'm not paying that to fix a blinker...all parts. That to me is insane.
I average 11.5l/100km city driving with f10 m5 its how u drive the car id say people think these cars have problems and use a lot of gas but thats just bs never have anymore problems than something like a camry
This my next car a used 2018 would be amazing price for this plus I like this look I wanna get this before they get ugly like Benz they keep making them futuristic and ugly so this design is amazing very simple very square and I love it trust me sooner later these bmw will look ridiculous car companies keep going for some weird design bmw so far kept their look but I know sooner later they will change but this is my favourite design so far and I wanna actually hopeful this year or next year get one
I honestly don't know why anyone would want an M5? This M550 has plenty of power, with all season driveability. One little negative is the color scheme...the grayish brown wood trim, doesn't match the bright tan leather.
I sort of agree but I'm one of the few that has to have the max power and performance available. I like the split personality of my current m5 but sometimes wish for even more power or less weight.
Roll up to an m5 on highway and ull see that its not enough power and on top of that the prrsence and status(i know its an ego thing but its true) the m5 has is just not therw with this car
That was a great review overall but I'm surprised you didn't mention the Audi S6 once when talking comparisons. This car is a direct competitor to the Audi S6 in every single aspect.
Can we get the review of 2022 BMW 550i X Drive. ? Also, I had a question which would be more comfortable for Long Journeys BMW M3 or BMW M550i ? Considering M3 also has adaptive suspension I believe.
Alumnikiid ive owned many bmws and know people that have have done yhe same with zero issues apart from obvioudly changing oil and usual shit dont spread false info
It's called "Head-Up Display" not heads-up. I hate when "car enthusiasts" don't even know this. The reason it was designed in aircraft was to keep the pilot's head UP. Cars adopted it about 20 years ago, and carried over the name head-up.
Finally Germans find out iPhone/iPad touch screen technology helpful... just wondering how long it will take them to discover iPads pro size screen or Tesla size? Isn’t this screen little to far away from the driver position?
3:45 "this is not that far off from the interior of something we would find in a camera or accord" thumbs down. Most of you probably don't even own a bimmer.
Very good review, but one big caveat, you keep comparing it to the E43, a car you haven't even tested!!! Yes, 550 is faster given it has a biturbo v8, however, the difference is a lot smaller than you would think. Furthermore, you mention the Mercedes 9 speed transmission but you forget that the E43 has the same unit as other as other E classes but a completely different tuning provided by AMG. When you review the 43 you will also notice that it handles significantly better than the 550i while maintaining the same luxurious composure in comfort mode. The price of the vehicles is similar but the sophistication of the tech, the "luxuriousness" of the luxury are all superior in the MB. BMW put all its eggs on the engine, MB did a better effort on the overall package, more fun to drive, more tech and luxury if somewhat slower. If I were you I'd reserve your opinion on the E43 until you actually test one.
Alex, I'm glad you now have access to these premium vehicles through your new partnerships. I enjoy your reviews, and those of Sofyan at Redline immensely. Keep up the great work.
The current price of a used m550i makes it a great bargain for the performance.
Alex is back with another professional review. Love that you are getting nicer and nicer cars these days but still keep the review "real world" style. Keep up the good work!
One objective and quality review.

@@s.c.1972 Excellent response, thank you! I'll try to test drive them or at the very least poke around them at the dealer

Ray Thomas shall we go into Mercedes-Benz’s lineup as Well?
Ray Thomas, my thought on the amount of and the variations in their models, is that they don’t really have a downmarket/upmarket brand that appeals to a different buyer, therefore, they have to appeal to anyone that may be shopping a Bimmer vs another make that does have a downmarket channel, a la Japanese and now Korean makes. Ray Thomas Yes, then maybe those nasty record sales, profits & expanding factories would go away.
Ray Thomas That "branding message" is a decades old ad. copy, BMW have been making 7 Series for decades, it's their limo.
10/10 to Alex for this review..been waiting a long time
Noticed you're listening to M.I.A. - this is why I love your reviews, Alex.
That was my song by M.I.A when it first came out now I gotta go back to listen to it. Lmao
He's far more interesting than he lets on!
Your reviews are great. Great editing, professional cadence and overall wonderful to watch. Thank you.
Great Reviews. I don't know how you got so little on the subscriber while you did such a great job out there!
Best review I've seen yet! Thanks for the info!
Excellent reviews Alex! Love the way you deliver the information. Great insight and feedback. Bravo!
What an awesome overview and review of this amazing car. Great job!
That cockpit is just wowzer!
Awesome job in representing a car and the feature. I subscribed your link, because no one is better then you. Keep on going ...
Good reviews man! I love the way you set up your videos with tons of information!
Great review and video! Test drove this car myself today, and definitely on my top list for my next car.
I always like Alex review, even if I go through other review conclude the same finally watching Alex. Very thorough and authoritative nd attention to details. Gives me a comfort on understanding
What an excellent review...first time watching you guys and I'll check out more videos
Excellent review! You got everything covered, really helps a lot while considering for a car!
😱 The interior is beautiful😍
Kira Ford don’t have this interior colour in my country 😢
i love the body on this one

Thank you for getting a BMW review in!!
M550 is a better deal than the M5. Nice balanced review.
Fantastic review, wish my dealers sales folks were half as knowledgeable

MiniCactuar and you still can not afford it

Lol. True. The repair costs...ugh. I've heard enough stories from most co-workers.
Get a CPO version, drive for 3-4 years then sell.
Eustace my decades old 2000 323i is still going and it’s at 250k miles
100 percent! Leased 3 550’ 2/3 required engine replacement under 35,000 miles
Another great review Alex !
Great review
Great review Alex!! your review/feedback on ride quality and interior dimension/ i comfort are extremely useful !
Great review. Thank you for very detailed video
Not true previous 550i were available in xDrive as well, however great review
My V6 328i only gets 21 mpg. It's awesome to see how far Bmw has come to make a v8 liveable unlike some other German cars.
My last 550’s were excellent. Although the engine needed replacing at 36,000 miles. So glad I leased it. Anybody know if they fixed the N63 v-8 engines? How did you like the Bowers speaker system?
Thanks. This video was very helpful.

one of the best review
Wow, it's so crazy how far fuel economy has come. My G37is lucky to do 20MPG with nearly 150 less HP
Data point: 250 mi. trip, 70% freeway 30% highway, I logged 28.5 mpg in this car, parking the cruise at 65-70 MPH. I was pleasantly surprised.
I average 11.5l/100km city driving with f10 m5 its how u drive the car id say people think these cars have problems and use a lot of gas but thats just bs never have anymore problems than something like a camry
I LOVE IT. Done just right and kinda low key
Will you do the Mercedes E-class review?
E43 blows this thing away. They look like 10 years difference but they are the same year.
Bill Clay I kinda agree
Extremely well engineered car.
Engineered for numbers and feeling only, it won't last though, will start to fall apart after just a few years.
Mo B It's a brand new POS
Engineered for a 3-year lease. Not my definition of a quality product.
MiniCactuar do you guys really think this car will turn to shit after just a few years? Even if you maintain it?
It will not fall apart, but stuff that usually doesn't break on a Toyota will start breaking.

Did Alex just swear at 15:50 😮😮😮... had to replay cause I thought I heard wrong... lol.
Best TH-cam car reviewer.. hands down!!!🕵️♀️
Maxwell A he said FUNKY dual clutch transmission
i wonder what the range and mpg is on eco mode
That was a great review overall but I'm surprised you didn't mention the Audi S6 once when talking comparisons. This car is a direct competitor to the Audi S6 in every single aspect.
You should definitely try out 4k in 60fps. The new iPhone 8 can film that (and there's a lot of cool cameras which can also do 4K 60fps).
Empire State u88
What a beauty.
You know what would make this the perfect car? Give us the Touring (Eurowagon) edition!!!!
Can we get the review of 2022 BMW 550i X Drive. ? Also, I had a question which would be more comfortable for Long Journeys BMW M3 or BMW M550i ? Considering M3 also has adaptive suspension I believe.
Thoughts on a A6/S6 as a competitor?
I'm also curious about that, and also, the GS F, which seems like a reasonable competitor as well.
Lexus GS is cancelled
GSF is if you want a car that you can drive 100k miles with no warranty and huge repair bills,
Alumnikiid ive owned many bmws and know people that have have done yhe same with zero issues apart from obvioudly changing oil and usual shit dont spread false info
I also much prefer a well rounded vehicle like the BMW M550i. It covers all the bases 💪🏾😎
did you mention camry in this video?
How tall are you Alex?
If an M550xi can do 0-60 in 3.8/9 sec and listed at 4, what will the real 0-60 of the M5 will be ? It will give some super cars a run for their money.
Why no sequential/dynamic indicators?
Alex you lowered your video length from 30 min to 20 min.
Alex please show us the car with a turn signal or hazard lights on. Its nice to see how those work
Matias Petrali there fake didn't you know? Nobody uses there's in their BMW's so they decided to not add them 😂😂😂
I will get the new BMW 540i after my lease is over on December.
Great work, as always. Can you do a review on a 2017/2018 Ford Escape Titanium?
My dream car
I think this looks better that M5.After all this is an executive car and it should have an elegant charisma as well.
Most comfortable seats.
Why in every video i see this car being compared to tge E43 and not the E53?
What is the fastest car in this segment??
What is a “Dool Clutch”?
It's called "Head-Up Display" not heads-up. I hate when "car enthusiasts" don't even know this. The reason it was designed in aircraft was to keep the pilot's head UP. Cars adopted it about 20 years ago, and carried over the name head-up.
Even though I am a MB fans, I would pick this over E43 because of the V8 power unless MB puts their new M176 engine into the E-class
The upcoming M5 will be with AWD and using normal ZF 8 speed
Finally Germans find out iPhone/iPad touch screen technology helpful... just wondering how long it will take them to discover iPads pro size screen or Tesla size? Isn’t this screen little to far away from the driver position?
Would be nice to know your size when talking about rear seat head and leg room. Excellent review otherwise
It actually uses wifi for Apple Carplay not Bluetooth.
very level headed review, and i think this is better than the E43, i think MB is diluting their brand with the E43
cancercell1 This is way ahead of the E43 from AMG. Infact the 540i gives the E43 a run for its money and that's supposed to be a level below.
Wish they just left the name as 550i cause m550i sounds cheesy like you couldn’t afford a true m car
Anyone else notice this isn't in 4k?
This doesn't look bad at all
I hate the split in the screen. Too much going on at the same time.
Wolf in sheep's clothing
I truly love your reviews, but my eyes keep drifting to your jeans for some reason.
3:45 "this is not that far off from the interior of something we would find in a camera or accord" thumbs down. Most of you probably don't even own a bimmer.
What does BMW stand for?
Bavarian Motor Works
Bayerische Motoren Werke
Brings me women
Great review for this super dangerous car. I'll be sure to avoid this car on the road
That's my next car!! (i bet tons of guys say that, include me) LOL I just need $73,000 more. ;p
Bryan Chance lease it
Just get a tune and remove the 50i part of badge.🤣
An M5 is so much more than more HP. The M550i is fine for those that don't know the difference.
Real M's don't weigh more than SUV's.
Wtf is that gear stick
What about Android Auto? For $80k it better have one.
BMW could have made this car a foot shorter and not lost any interior space. It looks and probably feels like a boat.
For less money, you get 9 extra letters on the back
