People keep complaining how these "redesigns aren't really redesigns." Sure, they don't look COMPLETELY different. But there are a shit ton of changes that add up. Changed headlight housings, revised tail lights, new rim designs, completely* revised and re-engineered engines. Vastly updated interiors. The amount of time and resources it takes to do these things is crazy, and quite frankly deserve a little more respect. Then again, the people who complain aren't in the position to buy or even lease these damn cars anyway lol.
Jay Hooper you are 100% correct. The people that complain only do it so they can feel better about never being able to own one. I really disagree with a lot of this video...BMW has ifs own thing and it’s not copying Merc or Audi...this car is awesome because they all drive amazingly. And they really never stopped being the ultimate driving machine...
Why does bmw and mercedes amd audi keep saying "completely redesigned" when slmost every model looks the same. Seriously hard to tell if its a 3 or 5 or 7 just on design you have to look at the size. Same with a4 a6 and a8. And a c class nowadays looks exactly like the s class.
wesamalshaif because it's seen as an upscale car to have, I'm guessing they think they think they don't have to reach for new designs every 3 years when its a "trophy car" regardless. Unlike an accord which can be attainable by many so it's needed for new designs
I think the Mercedes lineup looks the most different now, I can’t tell the difference between at 5 and 7 series now unless I’m right up on it or it’s a base Model.
Before the E Class always had a completely different design while the C looked like a smaller S Class. But now even the E Class looks like the rest. The Germans make the same car just different lengths
I don't understand what u mean by BMW needs to do something new like what Audi and Mercedes is doing? Is there anything new about Audi exterior and interior designs? Their designs have remained the same since early 2000 with a few subtle changes here and there. The only thing new in the audi's is the Google earth view for the maps. Is that what you mean by something new?I prefer this 5 series to Any A6 and I prefer the 7 series to the new Audi A8 too.
Samson Okoro agreed, that doesn't make sense at all. At least bmw has an amazing infotainment and now finally a touch screen... Merc is just awful in that department, and I wouldn't test drive an audi it's the most boring car out there.
I think he just means the layout of the interior, particularly the layout of the center stack, hvac and center console have pretty much looked the same for the past 10 years. With Audi and Mercedes they don't look anything like how they did in the prior model. The new A8 interior looks nothing like how the prior one did as well as the A4 compared to the last gen. The A6/A7 are their oldest cars and are due for a new model next year.
KevinIsFamous I don't quite agree, apart from the new Audi screens in the A4 and A8 I can't see much difference between the previous gen. Audi's to me have the worst interiors of the German manufacturers. There's virtually not much different between their interiors and what's obtainable in VW sedans especially on the A4.
Samson Okoro I totally agree with you about that the design of vwaudi still the same silhouet as a passat from the year 2000/2001..and the interior of the Mercedes benz looks great but to bizzy for me..
Sofyan you've been reviewing cars for a while now, but watching this video one would think this is your first time setting foot inside a BMW. BMW has long been known for cars described as the "same sausage cut to three different lengths", i.e. 3/5/7-series. BMW is never going to try to "wow" anyone stylistically with its 5-series. It's an executive saloon, not a Civic Si. You can be profess to be disappointed all you like but that's the way it's been since the 1972 E12. And I hardly think Audi is some kind of gold standard for adventurous design; if their sedans were any plainer or more devoid of styling they would be shoe boxes. If you define "style" by the garishness of the grille, Lexus has you covered. And the trite moto-journalist line about BMW "losing their way" or their mojo whatever is a sure sign of someone not doing their homework. For the record I despise abominations like the X2/4/6's, 4-series "gran coupe", and the GT buttfugly stepchildren in particular. But If you long for a simple, compact, relatively lightweight Bimmer evoking the E30 M3 BMW offers it in its 2-series, in particular the M2 Competition. For the most part BMW knows their customers and that particularly applies with the current 5-series.

Earlando Johnson I’m surprised that the press car didn’t have it. One of the things reviewers have been making a big deal about is the remote control ability from the LCD key fob. Weird.
Earlando Johnson the upgrade is a little more than that. The option itself is $750, but it requires you to also get the parking assist package for $700, so technically it's $1450, unless you wanted the park assist anyway, which you should. It is bizarre this isn't in a press car, it was one of the biggest teases with the new 5 series. This press car was the shitty one no one wanted. The feature is simultaneously the coolest and most impracticable option they offer, I would never actually need it, but you can bet your ass I'd be out in my neighborhood remote controlling that car up and down every street just so the neighbors could see it!
BMW is knocking it out of park, far far better than any Audi or Mercedes. This is an awesome car, likely the best sedan on the planet. Far quicker than any silly domestic V8 from the light, far more reliable than most cars in the segment, luxury, style, panache, this car rocks!

Bmw makes the most beautiful looking and sounding cars I love my f30 n55 and I hope one day I can get myself a modern m5 or m3 my absolute favorite series
Correction: BMW does not offer android auto. Otherwise excellent review tho! My dad has one of these M550i xDrive - it’s excellent. Really makes me question why anyone needs an M5. Sure it’ll have more power and better track performance, but who is taking a 100k four door sedan to the track!? Nobody, that’s who.
Varun Santhanam I agree the m550i is nice, and is a daily driver, I would much rather it than an m5, but your comment about who takes a 4 door sedan to a track... The M3 and M5 live at the track, they were born for the track. Every m owner mods and tunes their car specifically for the track. The M5 will spend most of its life going to weekend track meets, that's why people buy them. M550i will not imo it doesn't have that hard driving stiff suspension, it was not built for the track.
Uh, no. M5’s are rarely taken to the track. And saying that every M3 and M5 owner modifies their cars for the track is false as well. I don’t know what track you’re going to or what group of M owners you hang out with it. Most M cars do not often see track duty. You buy the M5 over the m550i because you have that much more disposable income.
Alex K they are designed specifically for the track you moron, the entire m division is born from racing. The m stands for motorsport for Christ sake. You are one of the biggest idiots I ever heard. The m cars are so god damn stiff and rigid they are extremely tough to use as daily drivers. And perhaps if you had any disposable income you would know better. You don't buy an m car to drive the kids to Disney land, that is a very very unpleasant ride. People who own m cars must have another car as a daily driver. You are truly stupid, and if you have never seen an m car at the track just you tube it you complete Jack ass. People buy the cheaper bmws for luxury, it's not about disposable income, if you can afford a 90k m550 you can afford a 100k m5, they are used for different purposes, one a daily driver, one a fun weekend track car.
Jaguar F-type you sound upset. I never said M cars weren’t designed for racing smart ass. Point out where I did. Just because a car is DESIGNED for racing does not mean that is what it is exclusively used for. The 3 hyper cars; P1, 918, and Laferrari are high performance machines designed to go fast around the track. A large number of them remain hidden in garages as collector’s items. Learn how to fucking read. “M cars are so goddamn stiff.” Do you daily driver a 1995 cadlliac? More importantly, have you been in recent M cars let alone driven one? By your description of, “they’re so goddamn stiff,” I’m going to take a guess and say no. All current M cars are pretty compliant on the road except maybe the GTS. I think you have this perception that M cars are full blown racing machines. Get out of your bubble, get away from being a magazine racer, and actually research a brand before attempting to educate other people about that brand. “They’re extremely tough as daily drivers.” Another moronic statement. You’re riddled with retardation. No current M car starts it’s life as a race car. They take a standard 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, etc and add the racing components and tuning down the pipe line. Pretty much all M cars are inherently compliant on the road because of this. A reason why BMW claims that their M cars are the ultimate driving machine is because they have a duality between being good daily drivers and race cars when you want them to. I’m sorry, what kind of hardcore, difficult-to-drive race car has an “Eco Pro” mode and soft suspension setting for commenting on public roads🤔.
BMW 5 series is classic. The exterior changes just enough to remain modern but without losing what separates it from all the other automotive industry makers. I don't want my M550 to change into something generic like Mercedes and Audi.
I find it dumb that bmw leaves space for a cooled seat button but they put the cooled seats in the infotainment like come on seriously there is a blank button for it!!
"The meaty, fat steering wheel feels really good in your hands"💀😂 I'm sorry, I have a dirty mind. Hey, I'd still love to get that car. Even though you have ruined the wheel for me. Great review 👍
Very nice review of that rocket ship! Also I need to say that you are one of the only car reviewers that I have seen on youtube that actually knows how to use the automatic climate control lol All others I usually see them fussing with the fan speed or vent controls.
Next time you do a BMW review, put it in the sport mode settings before you rev it, it changes the whole exhaust note. This car sounds way better than the revs clip in this video for that reason smh.
Hate to break it to you, but the seats here are not "massaging". You need the upgraded leather and there are 4 buttons on the preset panel on the door.
Zeshaan Alikhan there are certain things in a car that age poorly... Technology is one of them. They are partial virtual displays, but they also are designed to look traditional... Some of the crap Audi and merc are doing will show it's age in a few years, the bmw because of the more simple traditional clusters should stay relevant for longer... But having said that it does seem like they were a little cheap with it, the ageless look was not their intention.
MrCarGuy20 yep starts at 73k goes all the way up to the mid to high 90's... Out the door it will be 6 figures... Same with most cars at this starting point
I'm sorry but anyone that thinks "all BMWs look the same" is completely fucking blind and doesn't have an eye for detail! In the dark I can spot a BMW and know which series it is!
Adem Hasanovic it's not an m5, it's not a 5 series m sport. An m sport does nothing for engine performance, just looks and suspension. An m5 is super stiff and track based... All performance. Bmw officially calls these cars "m performance models" in my own words it's like a hybrid between the 2... You get some of the softer and more comfortable ride for everyday diving as the non m cars, but then you also get some tuning and extra performance from the engine like the full m cars. Sadly the last m5 was a disappointment, coming up short in performance so this car basically makes the stock f10 m5 look slow for lack of a better word. The new M5 coming in a few months will leave this car in it's dust though and easily reclaim the title quickest 5 series... It will claim quickest bmw period across the brand. Until then this is the quickest 5 series 0 to 60 and in the quarter. Almost priced exactly in between the 535 and m5 too.
It's ordinary 5 series and M techniques fiddling with its handling, power, brakes. Take an 5 series give it adjustable performance suspension, big disc brakes, big brakes calipers, performance adjustable exhaust, etc. Just like Mercedes E43 AMG, it's not originally AMG born. Just ordinary E 400 and AMG just souped it up a bit.
They just drill that front plates holes. future buyers. you have right to tell the dealer don't touch the front bumper and don't mount your plates when it arrives.
Does anyone know if this trim comes with the display key standard? I know you definitely get with the the remote parking option, but I have also seen display key fobs with no parking buttons on the right side in other videos
The understated styling is what makes it so great.

Like you said at 16:43, "The Ultimate Driving Machine", not the ultimate tech machine.
lol, when u talk with ur hands the volume controls turns up the radio! thats so funny! :)
Used car market the bmw is king best “value” in terms of dollar to dollar
Damn, those jeans are tight
Suneil Bhaskara what what in the butt
Suneil Bhaskara
Gayness confirmed.
😂
😂
I don’t see how men wear tight jeans my balls have to go somewhere
Beautiful. I’m not paying $900 a month though. I went with a Jeep SRT
The Jeep SRT is a great choice! It is a very different class but great choice.
I can’t believe this car is from 2011 it looks from the outside as a brand new car
Lol what a boss, cruising 55 with no hands on the steering wheel
I love BMW's they are beautiful cars! I wish I can afford one though! If I can I would love to get the M5 or M4!
Ana kmn ya bro
BMW 5 series is classic. The exterior changes just enough to remain modern but without losing what separates it from all the other automotive industry makers. I don't want my M550 to change into something generic like Mercedes and Audi.
I would hate forking over so much money to then have to hand in that twin turbo v8 after a 3 year lease...
Samuel Torres dealing with that situation now! M4
For a brand new one every 2 years without the worry or expense of maintenance.
I find it dumb that bmw leaves space for a cooled seat button but they put the cooled seats in the infotainment like come on seriously there is a blank button for it!!
"The meaty, fat steering wheel feels really good in your hands"💀😂
I'm sorry, I have a dirty mind.
Hey, I'd still love to get that car. Even though you have ruined the wheel for me. Great review 👍
He is gay after all
kav._.x exactly and bmw’s are bought by a lot of lgbt people ( TRUE FUCKING FACT )
He is so gay
If only I was able to afford this.......
Bmw is off the hook they did just right with the design to me don’t go over board
Very nice review of that rocket ship! Also I need to say that you are one of the only car reviewers that I have seen on youtube that actually knows how to use the automatic climate control lol All others I usually see them fussing with the fan speed or vent controls.
Is that exhaust stock? What a sound!
I'll stay w/ my 550M Sport 2016. And because BMW went w/ those large grills, my next car will be the Merc
Damn that reverse camera tho 🔥👏🏻
Such a beautiful car.
Is this steering wheel only on m sport model. Does the other model feel numb?
not a BMW fan but this looks really good! Loving the navy blue
Keep the vids coming 👍😉
I like the fact that all bmws aren’t over stylish. Greatest DRIVING MACHINE not best dressed.
It’s dumb that they don’t offer the digital gauge cluster in the US. Thank god I live in Dubai where we get the Euro spec car that has it.
BMWM5VOLKSWAGENWGOLFGTI We get it. It’s an upgrade option over here.
It's dumber that you live in Dubai
Shawn Zhang I was thinking the same thing
While the video display is a nice option, I would stick with the traditional gauges. You know, being a "BMW."
Probably $25k in options. Wouldn't ever consider one for all the content being essentially "a la carte".
MrCarGuy20 yep starts at 73k goes all the way up to the mid to high 90's... Out the door it will be 6 figures... Same with most cars at this starting point
This interior is much better than the A6/S6. The virtual cockpit is only available on A3/A4/A5...
How come the car doesn't have full digital display? Is it equipped with that option or no?
He must be high if he said you can’t notice the difference.
I'm sorry but anyone that thinks "all BMWs look the same" is completely fucking blind and doesn't have an eye for detail! In the dark I can spot a BMW and know which series it is!
I’m not gonna lie. You may be the reason we got the fugly looking 5 series now🤣. (I am joking)
90+ grand for a 550! GTFOOH That’s M5 territory. This is a 5 series with an aesthetics package.
I noticed central console turned towards the driver which is nice.
Nice video and Good review
Love the color!
So the volume control button, is unnecessary?
So is this an actual M5 or more of an 5 series M sport?
Historically the M5 had a V10, if I recall correctly. The new M5 might have a similar turbo V8 with a little more power.
Adem Hasanovic M-Sport 550i with XDrive
Adem Hasanovic BMW totally confuses me.
Looks more like a mid-cycle refresh than a new model.
Great video! Strongly considering this vehicle for my next ride. I think a better buy then the new m5 coming.
Finally a Bmw review!
