Thomas Good afternoon, I was very inspired by your work from the very beginning and learned a lot from you and now I have achieved good skill, thank you very much for today's lesson and in general for all the work!!❤
Thomas ! Your work is absolutely beautiful and inspiring! Love this piece! The sky is stunning. The overall piece is stunning! Thank you for sharing. Learning from a master❤
Thank you, Maestro. You've created a clean, well-stated art piece as usual. I tried yellow in my landscape skies, and it came out looking more like smog. I will endeavor to try your technique again.
@@marywilliamson2559 cheers Mary . Ochre is a sky sometimes works better than a fresher yellow might - they tend to go green. Not always bad but often not what you want
@@thomaswschaller Dear Thomas, love your approach and philosopher . Really admire your work from far away in Africa.. thank you for sharing your ideas and thoughts. Claire
Beautiful painting! The way you explain your process and philosophy is so helpful and inspiring. I've noticed that you always take the time to read comments and respond to them. So humble. Thank you for making these videos❤
I just found your channel and I almost can't believe you put out so much quality content for free! I'm hitting the membership button right away. I discovered your work on instagram and I'm amazed, such beautiful pieces. The light, the mood, the architecture
The left side arched opening is stark white, yet should be in shadow even darker than the shaded area as the interior is also in deep shadow. The fact you left it makes it stand out like a sore thumb. On a positive note: I totally enjoyed this painting and learned a lot about the way you did the sky and clouds. Thank you.
Don't struggle too much - Just breathe , relax, use water, and remember it's just a lot of fun . And if the painting isn't "perfect" - you're on the right path
Hi Thomas. Is your "liner brush" [the one you use for landscaping] custom made? Its effects on trees is marvelous! If so, how did you make it? Thanks. Ron from the Philippines.
Yes - Mineral Violet is by Holbein. One reason I like it is because it is easily modified - Bere I used a bit of Neutral Tint to make it a bit more grey
Thanks very much for this tutorial. I was watching something this past Friday here… about 9 pm PDT…I was about to make a comment on your sky…as I try to practice a “sky a day”. I tried to post it, and all of a sudden..the tutorial was “ poof” gone. I’m assuming it was just meant for your patrons perhaps, and placed on general TH-cam by accident. Skies can definitely be difficult for me.
@@thomaswschaller well I was fascinated with it …so I thought it was really good, ha! I like skies that are stormy ..so it’s hard for me to try to paint a cloud that’s a bit more crisp, if you know what I mean. It seems like we get heavy, gray, and sometimes green gray clouds that roll in from the Pacific with the wind …and get abutted by the Cascade mountains that we have in the Pacific Northwest….so, I’m more used to seeing them than the crisp ones as is here. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
when you put the shadows in your Artwork it just brings them to life, specially the mix or the pallette you use are extraordinary, I presume they are complementary colours and are very similar to Van Gogh's palette, it takes years to master your signature colours to bring the painting to life. I am learning and try as I may I invariably gravitate to matching the colours of the visual or any object and giving to much detail. in other words simply copying the image from photo to the paper, works out well but it does not give me satisfaction and makes me feel lack of creativity.
Thanks so much - Yes - my shadows are almost always a study in complements. Here - Violets and Yellows - This helps to add a little electricity and energy more than simply flat grey tones would
Thomas, the thumbnail shows a lot more purple in the lower sky, and less of the brownish layer, than what we see in the video. I really like the purple, did you add that in later ?
It's the same painting - The lights on my video setup sometimes bleach out too much color - so I will adjust them. The thumbnail is a regular - more accurate - photo
love your paintings as always, but i find this funny: TS: "i prefer using sedimentary colors so i don't like quinacridones and phthalos" also TS: "anyway here's imperial purple, manganese blue hue, and neutral tint" (and no i'm no color purist but doest the artist protest too much?) I JEST I JEST
there's a method to my madness. All pigments have an element of "staining" of course - But I try to favor those that are more sediment-based rather than those that are primarily dye-based
@@gibbsphenomenon Maybe. But it's anything but a detail. There's an ocean of difference between sediment-based and dye-based pigments : how they behave and how they affect the outcome. I really don't care at all what anyone else chooses to do , but I was just trying to explain why I use what I do for anyone out there who may care.
So generous of you to share your techniques and tips. Beautiful work, thank you!
Watching you paint was mesmerizing! Truly remarkable!!
Thomas, again, another beautiful painting. Your drawing is amazing. Love everything about it..

Love your color palette, I think I need to make some changes. The clouds and foreground tips were great. I love the entire work, thanks for sharing.
