I thought it was obvious. Star racers work just like Pod racers from Star Wars 1: Phantom Menace. Except you can be your ship or ride a giant bug or double up with a gunner. :P

Im just saying that as long as they are directing force down (and from other reactors to control the direction) it should be able to "fly". Sadly, this process requires a lot of energy and is hard to master in a normally levitating object.
Well. Flying requires wings. Wings a what keeps you afloat, so that you only need tohave forward momentum. wihtout the lift from the wings you can't fly. When Levitating you're constantly directing force downwards. If there's nothing for the force you're directing downwards to push off, you won't have lift, and since you don't have wings, you won't get lift from forward momentum. ... or something like that
I think the falling is an issue, but the relative force to levitate a few feet off the ground, vs in the air can't be that much different. Though, stopping a fall, and rising take much more energy. Im no scientist, I may be totally wrong, but I think I might be right on this one.
it would actually take a ton more energy then they were ready to accomodate for. This is due to, on the ground, the ship has to just use enough energy to create the thrust needed to keep the ship floating. In the air, at the amount of thrust it uses, it would be like you trying to use your own breath to stay aloft in the air.
