NOTES ABOUT TYPING TESTS:
Typing tests are recorded with a matched pair of rode NT5s in stereo AB orientation with no limiter, compressor, or any other processing. Loudness is normalized at -23dB LKFS. Mics are placed at ear level and head distance from the keyboard to offset proximity effect.
For an accurate sound test experience, use headphones and turn down your volume until the background noise matches that of your environment, or the volume of the keyboard matches your typing loudness. Do not listen to typing tests at full loudness if assessing the keyboard sound.

I appreciate that your definition of a grail is something that's personally enjoyable and desirable. So much focus on "grail" boards is what the community thinks is good and what is sought after in the aftermarket.
🦩I remember reading a take somewhere stating that defining what 'grail' means itself is an ego thing and is bound to vary from person to person. I'm personally afraid to use such a term to describe anything because I find it easier to not think of any item as aspirational, but I can appreciate something nice when I see it. Your review makes it very clear the Aaru65 is more than just a good keyboard--it's a piece of art; a vision carried out to the best of the artist's ability, to extraordinary effect. I can definitely see why one might call it a 'grail' and aspire to own it. Fantastic review, as always.
My grail is the glare tkl, amazing sounding board and a simple but beautiful design. Also doubles as a nice desk workout.
My grail is the J-01. I was lucky enough to come across one for a good price a while back and to this day it is still my favorite board aesthetically with the two tone case, interchangeable pen rail, and exploded 65 with XT layout. The sound and feel are top notch, the look is beautiful to me, and it’s the one board I would pick above all others.
my grail board until today is still the Zeal Zephyr due to its attention to details and minor cnc cuts, not to mention the egg plant ano and amazing gold pvd finish along with the 4.5mm brass plate. its so niche and wierd i love it until today

Aaru 65 has such a unique Design and pretty sick details, great sound .
For me my ''potential'' Grail is the Gehirn from Baionlenja.

AEboards' Constellation has always been my dream grail. I've always loved tinkering and disassembling my boards on almost a daily basis, and it's a pleasure to have multi-mounting styles on Constellation. Looks pretty plain jane, but customizability is my game. Someday though.
luckily the prices for that board are pretty affordable in aftermarket now

@@appleborbs5065 listings have been pretty hard to come by recently. On store I've seen it dip below 350 usd. Waiting for those lows once I get my funds settled, God knows when. I just get by on my college allowance lol

LZ RE is my grail board because the sides and back look so sleek and sexy, the diffuser/steel bar is a nice touch too. IMO the most well executed design in terms of aesthetics, fits my preference in terms of sound and feel pretty well also. Doubt I'll ever get to own one I might one-off something similar in the future or get another similar tkl.

Definitely not a grail for me. Way too busy and complicated. Same reasons I don’t like Matrix boards. Not letting people pick colors so that the price of a previous gb is protected is hella ick. Anyway I would own one, but not a top tier board in my collection. Honestly I would put this beneath a W1, still great but not top tier.

I’m glad you love it. But to me, this is one of the worst sounding $600 boards I’ve heard. I don’t like the build process of it either - needlessly complex and way too annoying.
I like the content overall, good entertainment and a little learning about copper and weebs, but this board makes me question it all. I think you need to re-evaluate how you approach reviewing GBs/ICs. So many good boards you criticized for aesthetics, and yet your grail board is THIS? You literally rambled for 15 minutes about hex.50fe bottom, and you like THIS?
